Description text: This is a supreme example of the item, with fine details and slick design.
stub
Supreme items were introduced in an update, Thursday, 29 March 2012.

Players may occasionally succeed in creating rare, supreme, or even fantastic items. These tools are faster, weapons do more damage, and armour protects a bit better. This may also happen as you improve or polish items and rare items may turn into even rarer items. Constructing new items using rare materials may turn the unfinished item into a rare item. Rare guard towers spawn more guards, for instance. More functionality will be added over time.

Premium players have a 2% added bonus to the creation of supreme items over non-premium players.

Please see the rare entry for other details.

Supreme functionality
Tools
*Supreme tools work 0.2 seconds faster than normal tools, compared to 0.1 seconds faster for rare tools.
*They take 19% less damage than normal tools. This means they take 90% of the damage taken by rare tools.
*A supreme pickaxe was returning 3 ql higher than the cap of the vein.

Vehicles, Mounts and Containers
*Horse shoes improve speed. A supreme horse shoe gives 1.44km/h extra gain.

Other
*A supreme toolbelt has 2 extra slots than the normal equivalent.

Sacrificing
Sacrificing supreme items has been reported to give skillgain.

Reported examples
* +0.07 axes skill
* +0.099 fishing from a supreme mortar
* +0.014 bowyery (from 85.98 to 85.99)
* +0.08 war machines (from 15.17 to 15.25) from a supreme silver shard (<Zarmazarmaex>)
* +0.08 Pottery
* +0.07 Catapults from supreme dirt
* +0.047 woodcutting

Dartaranius: typo

Wurm is designed so that a player can start with nothing, and create every essential and craftable item. No starter gear, no weapons, no tools, just a shirt and pants, not even shoes! Noobs start with a set of starting weapons and tools. These can be lost, or thrown out. Wurm allows that. 'It isn't easy', starting over in Wurm, 'but it is possible'.

If you:
* Died and lost an essential item
* Lost everything to raiders on a PVP server
* Dropped your starter gear and lost it
* Or you just want a challenge, aka Wurm Hard Mode
then this is for you. This is not for the faint of heart, even more so than Wurm normally is. But if you like a challenge, you may find it rewarding.

Make crude tools
*crude knife
*crude shovel

Your first order of business is to find iron rock and branches. Once you find a rock face, you need to rummage over it. Rummaging is like foraging but for rock instead of grass, trees, or steppe. You will likely only turn up two types of items: rock shards (in smaller amounts than you would mine) and iron rock. You will need both to make your first tool, a crude knife.

*find a large area of exposed rock, like a cliff or mountain, now rummage on a rock tile until you have
**at least 1 iron rock
**1 rock shards
*Forage in a forest until you have
**1 branch

*Use the iron rock on the rock shards to make a crude knife
*Use the crude knife on the branches to make shafts
*Use the crude knife on the rock shards to make a crude shovel blade
*Use the shaft on the crude shovel blade to make a crude shovel

Tips for foraging:
*keep all cotton (healing)
*crush all pumpkin into seeds
*crush wemp into fiber for a rope
*save sprouts for fuel
*drop acorns

Smelting iron
*mallet
*iron lumps

Rummage again until you have:
*12 iron rock
(When you smelt the iron rocks in a campfire you get .2kg for every 3kg.)

Use your crude shovel to cut down a "mature tree", an "old and shriveled tree", or a "fruit tree".
use your crude knife on the log and make a shortbow this will give you 2kg woodscrap
use your crude knife on the log and make a kindling.
use the kindling on the woodscrap to make a campfire
put the iron rocks in the fire.

While the iron rocks are heating up, you need to forage 2 more branches
cut them into shafts
make a mallet and a handle

Make iron carving knife and small anvil
*small anvil
*carving knife

*Combine all of the *hot* lumps into one big lump.
*Use the mallet on the lump to make a small anvil
*use the remaining lump on the small anvil to make a carving knife blade
*use the knife on the shaft to make a handle
*attach the handle to the carving knife blade

Your Choice
Cooking
At this point I recommend you search for clay, and take 2 crude shovels, and 2 crude pickaxes (because they break, and cannot be repaired).
*Make 2 or 3 jars to carry water, and a clay bowl to cook in.

Eventually your going to need to cook casseroles, and carry water around with you, that's why i recommend this option.

more iron tools
put that small anvil to use and make more tools, nails, and locks.

Have Fun
This should be enough to get you going. You will need to get more iron rock for a pickaxe, hatchet, large anvil and a shovel, but now you can use the carving knife to make shafts, and the shovel to cut down trees (tip: only cut down mature trees, or fruit trees, you need a hatched to chop up felled trees)

Good luck in the lands of Wurm!

A wood mine door is a carpentry item used to limit access to a mine.

Usage
* Activate the mine door, right-click a mine tile border, and select build door

Notes
* Mine doors cannot be placed on entrances with a slope of greater than 90.
* Plank QL affects the chance of success while constructing.
* Right-click on the door to manage the permissions.
* Decays over time (loses Strength and disappears when it drops to 0). Average decay amounts to 40 strength points per RL day. Mine door decay always takes place in steps of 100 and the actual daily value is random. It sometimes happens that there is no visible decay for several days (strength can remain constant for as much as 7 days) and then suddenly drops by 200. For example, a wooden mine door of 2000 strength will last approximately 50 days. Once down to 300 a mine door should be improved with planks or it will soon vanish.
* Unlike the rock mine door, a wooden mine door can be improved with a plank after it is placed. The plank need to be at least strength/100 ql, else the following message will be displayed:

You cannot strengthen this door any further with that item and your knowledge.

It may also require a certain skill to improve at high strength. (more testing needed)

* A wooden mine door is the only mine door usable on Golden Valley.
* When a wood mine door is made out of 20ql items the strength will be exactly 1600.
* Non-premium characters cannot improve mine door past 1600.

Dartaranius: Fixing broken link from a quote. The quote has been moved to spin of topic.

Main / Skills / Nature / PAGENAME

Description
Animal husbandry allows for the production (breeding) of new creatures, sometimes with increased quality, without the need to wait for new spawns.

Characteristics gained
Soul / Soul depth

Method
*Both of the animals you wish to breed must be not hungry. One must be a male and the other one a female. Lead one of them with a rope (note that some animals must be tamed to be led) and move it close to the other one. Right-click on the animal you are not leading and select the "Breed" option.
*Grooming also gives animal husbandry skill gains. Activate a grooming brush and select groom while right-clicking on a groomable creature. You can groom animals once per hour.

Notes
* Animals must be of the same species.
* If breeding fails, you will receive a message that the male "shys away and interrupts the action".
* If breeding fails or is successful and you attempt to breed again, the male animal will show that he's "not in the mood" until 45 real life minutes pass.
* Females will not breed while they are pregnant. Once the female gives birth, the animal can breed again.
* Animals do not have to be "fat" to breed, only "no longer interested in food" (when trying to feed them). Grass eaters will typically be in this state after a minute or 2 on grass or crops.
* Age is a factor in breeding: calves or foals will not breed, neither will young/early adolescence animals.
* Breeding increases a player's soul depth.
* Pregnancy times varies from 5-11 wurm weeks, regardless of species.
* Animals can have a miscarriage.
* If too hungry or low on fat animals can die when giving birth.
* Breeding animals with characteristics such as Champion will provide a chance that the offspring will also have that characteristic. This chance is dramatically increased when breeding two characteristics of the same type together. (Two Champions for example.)
** The same applies to Traits as well.
* Longer blood lines will support more traits. (For example: A 4th generation dog can have up to 6 or so traits where a 1st generation dog (the first offspring from wild dogs) usually only have 0-3 traits.)
* The name is determined at birth, the traits are determined at breeding (noticed on a server revert on 2011-03-01)

Traits
Bred animals have a chance of having traits.(Enhancement/Deformity). Animals can have multiple traits. Examining an animal will show traits, if one has the required skill level:

* 0 skill: Horse's color is considered a trait.
* 20 skill: "It will fight fiercely." (High fighting skill?)
* 21 skill: "It has fleeter movement than normal." (Minor speed boost)
* 22 skill: "It is a tough bugger." (Withstands more damage)
* 23 skill: "It has a strong body." (More health)
* 24 skill: "It has lightning movement." (Randomly increases speed for a short duration)
* 25 skill: "It can carry more than average." (Less penalty to speed due to high load)
* 26 skill: "It has very strong leg muscles." (Less penalty to speed due to slope? Does not currently do this.)
* 27 skill: "It has keen senses." (Increased agro range or possibly harder to tame?)
* 28 skill: "It has malformed hindlegs." (Minor speed penalty)*
* 29 skill: "The legs are of different length." (Major speed penalty)*
* 30 skill: "It seems overly aggressive." (Goes into frenzy when attacked)*
* 31 skill: "It looks very unmotivated." (Seldom uses speed boosts?)*
* 32 skill: "It is unusually strong willed." (Randomly refuses to follow)*
* 33 skill: "It has some illness." (Usually unridable. Penalty to body strength)*
* 34 skill: "It looks constantly hungry." (is twice as fast hungry again)*
* 39 skill: "It looks feeble and unhealthy." (Prone to disease)*
* 40 skill: "It looks unusually strong and healthy." (Has a higher resistance to disease)
* 41 skill: "It has a certain spark in its eyes." (Affects breeding? <s>Will not die of old age?</s> Disproved, see talk.)
(All "?" are unconfirmed, traits with a * are removed by a Genesis cast)

Inbreeding
With a recent change inbreeding is supposed to have a negative effect. It adds extra negative traits that don't count against the regular traits pool.

Inbreeding is mating with the father or mother or when the two animals have the same father or mother. Basically if you only can find two horses you'll be ok in three generations. But it might be better to mate your horses with your neighbors horses.

Important to note
Players have observed that dead parents don't count towards the 'inbreeding' check:

"I have often used it as a method of breeding, to kill the old parents when I had too many horses that had a parent in common. After the parents are dead, you can breed and get normal horses. Leave the parents alive and you get lots of bad traited animals." Source

Caring
To prolong venerable animals from dying of old age you can care for them. To start caring stand next to the animal, right click the animal and select Care for. If you start caring for that animal you'll get the message:
You now care specially for Aged fat Tearbabe, to ensure longevity. You may care for 1 more creatures.

The amount of animals you can care for is limited by the animal husbandry skill of the player. If you can't care for more animals you'll get the message
You may not care for any more creatures right now. You are already caring for 1 creatures.

You can care for 1 animal and 1 extra animal for every 10 skill in animal husbandry. So at 40 Animal husbandry skill you can care for 5 animals.

To stop caring for all cared animals type the command /stopcaring in the chat window. You'll get the message
You no longer care for the one creature you used to.

To stop caring for a specific animal, you will need to right click the animal and 'care for' again.
