==Overview==

One of the most common problems with Wurm (and a lot of games) is ensuring that your graphic card is compatible. Wurm requires Java and OpenGL so forget about DirectX, there is no need to update to the latest versions or include this in your list of worries. Lets get java out of the way. Go to http://www.java.com and click on the bright yellow get it now button in the top right. Download, install and be happy. The recommendation is for a minimum java version of 1.4.2 and the action just taken will ensure this.

This now leaves us with your graphic card to deal with. Wurm requires OpenGL 1.3 and this is supplied as part of your card's video drivers. If your card manufacturer does not supply the OpenGL drivers or they are inadequate then often there is little you can do except get another card. As each manufacturer is different, the rest of this will be broken down into manufacters. For each individual entry use OS / Version / GFX Card / Status where status can be ok, broken for fixed #nnn where nnn is one of the corrective actions added by contributors.

Damage

Damage is used to illustrate the concepts of wear and tear on items. Most items will accumulate damage when left outside, though this process can be slowed with the use of containers. Containers made from Cedar trees are particularily good at protecting items.

Some items are damagable through player actions as well. Most tools will take damage and require repair from usage or failed improvement. Walls, fences and player structures can take damage from direct player attacks.

Should your character sustain damage (being attacked by wildlife or other players, by falling etc.), any medium wounds (you can find your wounds on your body in your inventory) or worse are likely not to heal by themselves. You can heal them by casting healing spells (See [[Religion]]) or by using [[rags]] as bandages.

Climbing

Climbing is the skill of climbing slopes that are too steep for you to walk normally. Climbing is activated by the button in the bottom of your screen, but beware - some slopes are just too steep and once you've low stamina you'll stop climbing - possibly falling to your death. Climbing consumes much more stamina than walking.

Your skill at climbing will increase the more you climb, and the better you are, the longer and steeper slopes you can climb.

The gnyffels are fictional critters invented by me back in.. let me see. 2002, most likely. They live at remote locations in the Andes mountains large herds. Pets can be lead by making a [[rope]] active, right clicking on your pet and selecting lead. It will then follow you like a [[cows|cow]] does.

If your pet is an [[animals|animal]] that can swim, it will follow you into the water.
