Survey
Survey will give you information on where the other character is standing regarding distance, direction and height difference.

To survey for a bridge two characters are needed. One character must carry a range pole, the other a dioptra. The lowest quality of the two items determines how long a bridge is that you can survey.'

The character with the range pole does not have to do much besides holding the range pole. To do this activate the range pole, click the ground and select Hold from the menu. When the action timer starts face the character with the dioptra.

The character with the dioptra will do the actual survey. Activate the dioptra, right click the player holding the range pole and select Survey from the menu.

The planning process will print messages in the event log

You carefully place the dioptra on its tripod in front of you.
You make sure the dioptra is level.
You point the dioptra at <other player>.
You wave at <other player>.
You line up the dioptra with <other player>.
You look through the dioptra.
You focus on the range pole.
You read the graduations on the range pole and work out the height difference.
<other player> is <x> tiles <direction> of you. Also you appear to be <x> dirt higher than <other player>.
You stop surveying.
You pack up the dioptra.

Building
To plan a bridge two characters are needed. One character must carry a range pole, the other a dioptra.

The character with the range pole does not have to do much besides holding the range pole. To do this activate the range pole, click the ground and select Hold from the menu. When the action timer starts face the character with the dioptra.

The character with the dioptra will do the actuall bridge planning. Activate the dioptra, right click the player holding the range pole and select Plan bridge from the menu. Standing right in front of the other character will create a 1 tile wide bridge. Standing at an offset will create bridges multiple tiles wide.

The planning process will print messages in the event log

You carefully place the dioptra on its tripod in front of you.
looks like bridge would be <'width'x'length'> (East-West)
The tile border to your <direction> is level
You make sure the dioptra is level.
You point the dioptra at <other player>.
You wave at <other player>.
You line up the dioptra with <other player>.
You look through the dioptra.
You focus on the range pole.
You read the graduations on the range pole and work out the height difference.
The tile border to your helpers <direction> is level
You check the heights of the plan ends.
<Height difference>.
You work out the orientation and width for the bridge.
You check for clearance between the bridge ends.
You check for protruding foliage.
You check for nearby cave entrances and any lava.
You check for any items in the way.
You check that you have permissions to build the bridge.
You check for any bridges that may interfere with this bridge.
You check there would be no buildings under this bridge.
You work out the styles of bridges that would fit.
You start working out the bridge components required.
Planned bridge area is <x> tiles long and <y> tile wide.
(23:ESabFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFBASE)
You stop surveying.
You pack up the dioptra.

When all requirements are met you are presented with list of possible bridges.

The selection depends on planned width, length, height difference and clearance below the planned bridge.

If you have choosen a flat bridge that is longer than 5 tiles then you have the possibility to change the schematic of your bridge plan.

When you have choosen a type of bridge you can name the planned bridge and select the steepness of the bridge if you've choosen an arched bridge.

After clicking Finalize a wooden frame for the bridge is constructed.

For each tile of the bridge a bridge segment has to be completed in multiple stages. Those are 'abutments' for the out segments, 'bracing' and 'floating' for stone bridges and 'crown' for rope and wood bridges.

Until the bridge has been completed no other bridge can be started by the character.

Bridge Warnings and Possible Solutions
Your end of the bridge is too close to the water level!
*Both ends of the bridge need to be 10 dirts higher than water level.

"The quality of the dioptra makes it too hard to work out the distance." or "You can't read the graduations on the range pole at this distance".
*Improve both items. Note that the lowest QL of the two will determine the max length of bridge you can plan.

You notice that there is not enough clearance for a bridge to be built here.
*Remove trees, houses, fences at both end tiles where the bridge should have enough drop off.

There are some terrains nearby
*A cave entrance is one factor. Make sure to build the bridge at least 2 tiles away from the opening.

Description
A vase with some sweet roses to a sweet friend.

Valentines have a quality of 100.

Usage
A valentine is a decorative item that may be dropped on the ground. They do not form a pile when multiples are dropped on the same tile.

Valentines take damage over time, but may be repaired by watering them. Activate a container with water and right click the valentine, and select water plant. This action will consume 0.10kg of water regardless of success or failure. You may water them on the ground, in your inventory, or from inside a container. Watering a valentine uses the gardening skill.

You start watering the flowers.

The watering action can fail, though failure does not cause more damage.

Icedblood: added reference to Tosiek in the list of gods

Overview
There are five Gods in the world of Wurm Online: The White Light Gods of Fo, Vynora and Magranon, and the Black Light Gods of Libila and Tosiek.

Advantages of joining a Religion include having the ability to become a Priest so you can cast Spells. You can also become a Champion of your God, giving you bonuses to both Fighting and Religion. As a Priest or Champion, you will have domain bonuses while you are inside your God's or Goddess's domain. Each of the Gods and Goddesses also have their own specific advantages which can be found under their own pages above.

To become a follower of your God's or Goddess's Faith, you must have at least 1.5 over all Body and 1.0 Alignment. You can then find a follower of that Faith and ask them to Convert you. You can also go to the Altar of Three to join a White Light Faith, or the Bone Altar if you want to join Libila.

* There is both an Altar of Three and a Bone Altar on the Chaos server. It is not possible to be Libila and Freedom Isle as the same time, therefore it is not possible to be Libila outside of Chaos.

* There is both an Altar of Three and a Bone Altar on the Elevation server. You can follow any of the Gods if you are in the Epic cluster.

Note that if you join Libila, you automatically join Horde of the Summoned, and all of the White Light Kingdoms will become your enemies.

Historical information: Pre-Chaos (before Wild moved to the Freedom custer) players got 1 free Transfer (/transfer in chat to use) to change gods once without losing any faith. It was intended for Libila followers to choose another god as Libila was removed from Wild when it became Chaos. Other priest/followers could use it too though, and occasionally a Priest avatar is put up for sale with it's Transfer unused. That allows the purchaser to follow only Libila if not a follower of her already, after the usage of the Transfer. There are no penalties to using a Transfer other than the removal of your free Transfer.

Priest and Spells
The ability to cast spells is limited to only Priests and Champions.

To cast a spell as a Priest or Champion, you'll need to have a certain Faith and Favor with your God, and have the Statuette of your God active. Depending on the spell, you can then right click a person, item, tile, or wound to cast a spell on it.

Different Gods give different spells.

Faith and Favor
To gain Faith, you will need to pray at an altar of your God. You can pray 5 times a day with at least 20 minutes apart to gain Faith. Faith is limited to 30 as a normal follower. In order to gain more, you will have to become a Priest. Note that all spells and most bonuses require more than 30 faith.

Favor is used up while casting spells, but regains automatically. The maximum of favor you can have is equal to your current Faith level.

Domain of the Gods
Altars create a Domain of a God. When you are in this domain and you are a Priest or Champion of your God, you receive tiny bonuses, including a Fighting bonus. These domain bonuses are not the same for each religion. The amount of the bonus is affected by many things, including your faith, alignment, distance to altars, and quality of the altars. Contrary to popular belief, no domain bonus exists for regular followers with 30 or less faith.

If there are several domains overlapping, only the most influential domain will give the domain bonus. The type of bonus is not the same for each god.

Domain influence is determined by the Quality of the altar and the material type. See the Altar page for more information on domains.

Stamina Drain
Priests with high faith (60-70?) are inspired in their deities favored terrains, and have less stamina drain there. Vynora followers get the bonus on Roads, Magranon on Rock, Fo on Grass, Dirt and Trees, and Libila followers on Mycelium.

Animals of the Gods
* Wild boar: Fo
* Mountain Gorilla: Magranon
* Anaconda: Vynora
* Rabid hyena: Libila
Main / Bestiary / PAGENAME

Description
This person seems to be able to put up some resistance. These guards will help defend you if you say help.

Tower guard is a NPC that spawns at a guard tower. Tower guards are aggressive against those from the other kingdoms, outlaws, and hostile animals that you ask them to attack.

* If you butcher them, you can get human meat and lose alignment.
* They usually die by the time they are "aged".
* Alignment is not lost if you kill them.

For every 10 quality of the tower you will get one guard. The minimum quality required to get a tower guard is 10.
There is a maximum of 5 tower guards per tower; any increase in QL above 50 has no impact on numbers and strength of guards, though it will make your tower harder to destroy.

You can ask tower guards to attack a hostile animal that is attacking you (that you are targeting), by yelling "help" or "guards!" in Local chat window,
this is case sensitive and must be all lower case in order to call the guards.

Guards will not attack creatures that are not normally aggro, even if they are attacking you. Such as deer or unicorns.

Fight Skill
Tower guards have 35~40 fighting skill. They are stronger than brown bears and scorpions, but a lot weaker than village spirit guards.
They can gain or lose fighting skill.
The limit is either twice or half the initial skill, whether they kill or get killed a lot.

Equipping
You can equip tower guards with weapons, shields and other items. They will remain on the corpse on death. Anyone from the same kingdom can remove these items.

* Jenn-Kellon guards have skill in longswords
* Mol-Rehan guards have skill in axes
* Horde of the Summoned guards have skill in mauls
* All kingdom guards have skill in medium shields

Halloween
During halloween, the tower guard model is usually changed to something spooky. Despite their spookiness, the guards remain harmless to allies.

Tips
*Towers placed inside deed borders will cooperate with deed guards in dealing with lawbreakers. Though, pursuit behavior notably differs from the deed guards.

*It is useful to bind calling help to a key. To do this - Press F1 to open console and type in bind key "say help". Replace 'key' with the key you wish to bind it to. From now on that key will call the tower guards unless rebound. Additionally, as long as the text consists of "help" or "guards!" it can be customized for fun. Example, "guards! Kill this sheep-humping thief!"

*Target needs to be within roughly a 20 tile radius of a Tower for guards to respond. If the target is within 15 tiles of the tower, the guards will always respond. At maximum distance only one guard arrives per call for help. Distance between you and the Target does not matter (NOTE: it may be about 80 tiles maximum, requires more testing), nor does the distance between guard and Target/You.

*Guards will not answer calls for help against targets inside caves, unless they themselves are inside that cave and target is within tower range.

*Guards stuck inside caves most often won't respond to calls for help on the surface. To prevent guards from entering caves, place mine doors on all nearby entrances.

*Guards can walk through locked gates.

*Calling guards more than once can help as more will respond. This is because upon requesting help, only few will answer and the rest stays available to help with a different creature or to provide additional support to the guards already helping the player. The second request for help will call more guards if there are any more available. It is believed that this is intentional, so that you can personally allocate guards where and when they are needed. Number of guards responding per call seems to depend on total number of guards.

*Guards automatically attack nearby KoS and hostile players. Such player needs to be maximum few tiles away from the guard, distance to tower doesn't seem to matter. Guards are very fast and relentless, they may chase you hundreds of tiles away and will continue even if you leave KoS deed area.

Creating the shrine is a mission objective, It seems relatively easy to build compared to other objectives.
It is also used in certain epic rituals.

Additional construction requirements
* You must be on the required mission
* 5x5 flat slabbed tiles
* In a certain part of the map (mission will tell you which part)
* Sometimes has additional requirements (At a certain altitude, x needed within y tiles of the shrine- i.e. some fruit trees or bushes must be within 5 tiles, etc.).

Notes
Unlike some other buildable mission structures, which appear as a question mark bag when unfinished, an unfinished shrine has a model. In the unfinished state it is approximately the size of a pile of items.

Like most other Valrei structures, it requires either a push or an improve action on it to register as completed for the mission and become an epic focus point.

Won't move when being pushed, pulled, or rotated.

Prevents deeding or expanding deeds nearby.
* 2 small nails

Notes
* The first plank is not lost if you fail the initial attachment.
* The Quality of the cart affects its decay rate. Small carts are naturally very resistant to damage.
* The bulk of item affects how many fit into a cart.
* Although carts cannot be dragged in water tiles, they can be pushed.
* 6.05 kg of dye is needed to paint a cart.
* An unfinished cart missing only one plank weighs 23.40 kg, and will fit inside other carts and rafts for easy transport.
* The maximum weight you can drag in a small cart is determined by the formula (Body strength * 7 - Amount of weight you're carrying) * 10 - 60kg. See body strength for more details.
* A small cart cannot be locked. For safer storage, you may want to consider a large cart.
* You can not hitch animals to a small cart, only to a large cart.

Useful Quantities
The following are the maximum hard-coded amounts of certain items a small cart can hold due to their volume or other factors (weight has no say here).

* 40 standard units (20 kg) of dirt, sand, rock shards or ore.
* 67 peat
* 7 slabs
* 9 logs
* 2 felled trees

Tips
Clay or similar items can be combined to bypass the universal container limit of 100 items.

Building Items Inside Carts
This is a precarious thing to do as sometimes an item must be on the ground in order to be continued or finished. Other times, the item may be too heavy to remove from the cart once finished or too heavy to remove to add the last piece, leaving you with a 99% complete item that can never be used.It is impossible to finish most items inside carts.
To see a list of the current settlements, see the Category Settlements.

Description
A settlement, or deed, is an area of land owned by a player or group of players: a mayor and optional citizens. A settlement is marked by a settlement token in the exact center.

See this website for details about the new deed system introduced in February of 2010: http://sites.google.com/a/wurmonline.com/new-deed-system/

Placing, or trading an already placed settlement, requires Premium Time. If premium time expires for the mayor, the mayor DOES NOT lose the deed or their role as mayor.

The mayor is the most important citizen of a settlement.

A character may only be a citizen or mayor of one settlement at a time per server. The same character can be a citizen or mayor of another settlement on a different server. A player with multiple characters (alts) can have each character in a different settlement on the same server and may own multiple settlements on the same server if each character is the mayor of one settlement.

Advantages
* Control of who is allowed which actions within the settlement area
* Deed guards protecting the settlement
* Setting reputations to keep out unwanted people (see Kill on Sight)
* A settlement token to have your bank account at
* Reduced decay on structures
* Maintenance of signs, lamps, banners and flags by spirit guards
* Village chat
* Instant logout when leaving Wurm inside the settlement (some exceptions apply)
* Respawn at your own settlement from anywhere on the map when you die
* Respawn at allied settlements that are within 50 tiles when you die
* Skill-loss when dying on your own deed or allied deed is only 0.025. Suicides have the normal skill-loss of 0.25
* Branding animals to show the village they belong to and to allow them to be lead by villagers
* A productivity bonus to item crafting for the citizens the older the deed is; see acquired knowledge in the village info at the token.
* An enchanting bonus similar to the productivity bonus

Founding
To found a settlement, you must first obtain a settlement form. Unlike writs, which are created by building a house, settlement forms must be purchased from an NPC trader. The price of a form is 10 silver.

When you use your settlement form to found a deed, you will have a credit of 10 silver. 3 silver will always be reserved for upkeep. The other 7 silver is used to cover your tile costs, and any left over will also go to your upkeep. If your inital deed would cost more than 7 silver, you must have the extra amount in your bank account.

Stand on the tile that you want your village centre token to be on, right-click the Settlement deed paper in your inventory, and choose Village > Found Village. A series of forms follows where you can set:
*Settlement size, east-west and north-south
*Perimeter size, beyond the five free tiles
*Village name and motto and whether it is a democracy or autocracy
** You can rename a village in the resize option. This resets the productivity bonus of the village.
*Number of guards.

A deed has a rectangular form. One edge of the deed can not be longer than four times the other edge. Minimum size is 5.
Example: Settlement size east-west 5 and north-south 6 will create a deed 11 tiles by 13 tiles. To visualize the area better, make use of the Survey Area button in the forms that places temporary survey markers at the planned borders.

Notes
*Free players cannot plant a deed, even though they may own one (via premium expiration).
*You need the writs for all buildings that fall within your new settlement area in your inventory to be able to place a deed.
**You can place a new deed's perimeter over existing buildings for which you don't own the writ, provided you do not touch a house wall with the actual deed area - ie leave a 2 tiles gap between deed edge and any house wall.
**You can expand a perimeter over houses you do not own - provided your deed tiles do not touch the building
*Settlements can only be founded within your kingdom. On Chaos or the Epic servers, this might require building guard towers.
*If the founding tile of the settlement has a house or fences, the token is moved to a random spot away from them. The deed borders do not move with it. You cannot build a house or fence on the token tile later on either, but terraforming is possible.
*A Token must be placed at least two tiles away from tiles submersed in water.
*A Token cannot be inside a cave, or a house.
*Aggressive animals, on what will become the deed, prevent planting of the deed; kill or lead them away first. Creatures in the future perimeter do not count.
*The mayor can destroy any building on deed, even if he/she does not have the writ for that building.
*You may not plant a deed on Holy Ground.

Tip: You can test whether you are able to plant a deed at your current location simply by trying to found it.

After founding, you can edit your settings from the Token > Settlement menu, or from the Settlement deed paper > Village menu.

Perimeter
The perimeter around a deed disallows non-citizens building structures, and the founding of other deeds. Your deed perimeter cannot overlap with the perimeter of another deed, although they can share a perimeter border. On the Epic servers, the kingdom guards will hunt down any player that have less than -30 reputation in the deed within the perimeter.

The first 5 tiles around a settlement deed are free perimeter. You can extend beyond the free perimeter, but this will come at a cost. Initial fee per tile is 50 iron, with an added monthly upkeep of 5 iron. Perimeter can be resized at any time, but the minimum perimeter allowed is 5 tiles.

To understand the concept of perimeters and their implications to deed planting, you can check this example:

Resizing
Deeds can be resized by the mayor at the token or with the settlement deed. You cannot resize if the settlement is under siege, or if your Templar is fighting an aggressive animal. There are no refunds for downsizing. Premium time is not required to re-size a settlement.

The mayor can expand his perimeter over a house which he do not have the writ for. This serves as a warning for a deed expansion and gives the owner of the house time to move. Only the perimeter can be expanded over a house - the mayor has to have the writ in his/her inventory to expand the deed over the house.

The money needed to resize must be either on the person resizing or in their bank.

Disbanding
Warning : Do not sail to another server in your cluster between issuing a Disband order, and the actual Disbanding of the deed. Doing so may cause you to not receive the refund from the deed and the upkeep. Crossing to anther cluster (Epic / Freedom) is okay, as that is a separate avatar, and the original is still on the deed's server.

* A deed may be disbanded. If manually disbanded, the owner receives settlement coffer money back, if the coffer is below 5s, then owner will recieve 5s instead . The owner will receive nothing back if the deed is disbanded due to lack of upkeep. The money is placed in the former owner's bank account. It is believed this money comes direct from the King; reasonable since deed money goes to direct to the King.
* Only people with the manage roles permission, or the mayor, may disband the settlement; citizens can stop a disband.
* Disbanding a settlement takes 24 real hours.
* If you remove all villagers and resize the deed to smallest size before disbanding, disbanding will take 1 real hour.
* When a village disbands, all its gates are unlocked. NOTE: This no longer appears to be true, disbanded a deed in May of 2011 and gates remained locked.

Mayor
All settlements have a mayor. The initial mayor is the founder of the settlement. At any given time, the mayor is the one who holds the deed. Trading the deed makes the new owner of the deed the mayor. A player must have premium time, be a member of a settlement in order to be appointed as mayor, and must have been a member for at least 24 hours.

Voting
If your deed is a Dictatorship, the mayor cannot be voted out. (This was changed, as an 81% vote used to be enough to evict the mayor)

If your deed is a Democracy, your villages can elect a new mayor by a successful vote, by using the command /vote. Success requires a majority: 51% or more of the votes.

Citizens may vote at any time, once per election. The election ends immediately whenever one candidate has received a majority of the votes, or when all votes have been cast. Elections can continue, even though the incumbent mayor is already clearly going to win, until a majority has voted. Each citizen is allowed only one vote per election, and can only vote for another citizen, not for themselves. A vote cannot be changed after it is cast. If a new mayor is elected, the deed transfers into their possession. Once an election is completed, a new vote will initiate a new election.

Note: Vote command gives the confirmation message: "You vote for Name as mayor this week.", so possibly the mayor can only be changed once per week, regardless of the number of elections?

Citizens
A village can have many citizens, maximum being the number of deed tiles divided by 11. You may remove even that restriction if you pay double upkeep.

Inviting someone to join your village requires that you have the (make people) citizens permission. Right-click them and choose Invite to join. They will get a Settlement invitation confirmation window.

If the village is a dictatorship, the mayor can remove citizens. Citizens can also leave on their own volition using the chat command /revoke <village name>. Citizens of a democracy cannot be removed; they must revoke their citizenship. If you have become a citizen of a settlement in the past 24 hours, you will not be able to join a new village until 24 hours have passed.

Each citizen is assigned a role determining which actions are allowed inside the settlement. Customizing, adding, and removing roles, requires the manage roles permission.

Spirit Templars (Deed Guards)
Settlements can be protected by Spirit Templars. Hiring or releasing Templars requires the Hire guards permission.

Spirit Templars will attack any aggressive creatures that enter the settlement area, but not the perimeter. Unlike tower guards, they do not respond to calls for help.

They will also attack anyone who is marked as Kill on Sight for that deed. (See KoS and Reputation for details).
Citizens with the manage roles permission can also set reputations manually. To remove someone added manually, set their reputation to 0 and tick permanent, then save the form.

The maximum number of Templars you can have is 1 per 49 tiles. Example: Number of Templars in a 31x31 deed is 19. On the Epic servers, the maximum number is limited to 20.

Spirit Templars demand payment. Hiring each new Templar will cost 2 silver summoning cost, or 3 silver if the settlement is on an Epic server. This is deducted immediately from the settlement upkeep, before they spawn. Each Templar also adds 1 silver to the monthly settlement upkeep, or 3 silver if the settlement is on an Epic server.

Templars can be managed at the token under Settlement > Manage guards, or from the Settlement deed paper under Village > Manage guards.

Upkeep
Upkeep money is taken from the village funds every month (one month being 28 days). If the upkeep fund is depleted, the settlement is disbanded automatically. A large upkeep fund reduces decay on buildings and fences in the settlement. If the fund has more than a month of upkeep, there is no decay at all. Upkeep can be paid at the token under Settlement > Info or Settlement > Manage guards, or from the Settlement deed paper under Village > Manage guards. Anyone can donate money to the upkeep fund at the token, even non-citizens.

only 10% of the upkeep money can be used to pay for deed expansion.

Upkeep draining
On the Wild and Epic servers, citizens of the enemy kingdom can drain your token once all your deed guards are dead. An enemy draining your token will remove 15% of the monthly upkeep cost from the upkeep fund, of which the drainer receives half. Upkeep cost is treated as always being at least 5 silver, which gives a minimum drain of 75 copper (37.5 to the drainer). A drain can occur once every 24 real-time hours. Every time a deed is drained, the drained amount will increase by 50%. This is reset if the deed is not drained for 2 days. Enemies can drain from an adjacent tile and do not need to be on the same tile as the token, even if there is a wall or palisade in the way.

Draining cannot take more money than the upkeep fund actually contains. If a drain empties the upkeep fund completely, the deed will disband in a short while. (The reason given will be the generic lack of upkeep message.) Unlike normal disbands, no money is refunded to the former mayor.

Allies and wars
Someone with the diplomat permission can make alliances or declare wars against other settlements.

To form or add to an alliance, right click on a person with diplomacy rights from another village, and ask to form alliance.

Allies
* Allies can respawn on the deed if they die within 50 tiles of it.
* Allies have their own deed role.
* Allies have a green outline.
* Allies can loot your corpse when you're online.
* Allies can pick up items on the ground, even if they're on deed and your permissions would otherwise not allow people to do so

Wars
Wars are only possible on the wild server.

When a war is in effect, the normal penalties for same-kingdom fighting do not apply. Enemy citizens will have a red outline.
When declaring war it will come into effect 24h after the declaration, unless the other side accepts it, in which case it will start immediately.

Permissions & Settings
Note: if playing on a pvp server, where Lawful can be disabled, a Spirit Templar is required to enforce the permissions set here

Permission per Role
Each role can have a different set of permissions enabled. There are no known permissions that control butchering and burying.
; Build : Plan, color, and continue buildings and fences. <br> Also allows lockpicking.
; Forestry : Chopping down young trees, picking sprouts, planting sprouts, gardening.
; Cut old trees: is required for cutting down old trees. This setting will not work on its own, so Forestry must still be enabled for a player with this permission to cut any trees at all.
; Destroy buildings : Destroying buildings, building plans, fences, and fence plans. Players with this setting will get a large bonus to damage done, and will be able to quickly destroy structures. Allies with this setting will be able to destroy structures, but will not get the damage bonus. <br> Also allows lockpicking.
; Farm : Sowing, farming and harvesting fields. <br> Also allows milking and leading animals.
; Hire guards : Changing guard level.
; Citizens : Making non-citizens into citizens. If your village has the maximum number of citizens, none can be added.
; Manage roles : Change role permissions and role assignments, change reputations. <br> Also allows disbanding the settlement.<br><b>Also allows pickup of items on the deed!</b>
; Mine rock and ore: Mining.
; Terraform : Dig, pack, pave and flatten.
; Expand : Expand the settlement with a larger deed.
; Pass all fences : Passing through all fences, even locked ones.
; Lock fences : Locking fences.
; Attack citizen : Attacking citizens.
; Attack non-citizen : Attacking non-citizens, disabling this will also keep players from attacking mob's on the deed.
; Diplomat : Form alliances, declare war, make peace.
; Fish : Allows fishing.
; DELETE : This permission will delete the role if set.
Note that you cannot give specific permissions to solely a single player that is a non-citizen of the deed

Be aware that even if you specifically put a player's name into the role field and the village that they are a part of in the village field, any permissions granted under that role name is allowed to any member of the village entered in the village field. For example, if Player1 was entered into the role field on VillageFunTime's settlement permissions, and was given the permission to terraform, and the village Player1 is a citizen of (say, VillageCoolBreeze) is entered into the village field, then if Player2 from the same village as Player1 came to VillageFunTime, then Player2 would be able to terraform even though their name was not specified in the role field. The town does not have to part of your alliance to be added in this manner.

This has been tested as of 21/01/13 and is correct.

Settings & Settlement permissions
;Village motto: The Motto will be on all gates when examined.
:[14:28:13] You see a wooden fence gate in the settlement of <village name>.
:[14:28:13] A plaque is attached to it:
:[14:28:13] -----------------
:[14:28:13] <Motto>.
:[14:28:13] -----------------
:[14:28:13] QL=26.913738, dam=0.0
;Village message of the day : Message of the day for village chat. Displays on login / change.
:[14:21:04] MOTD:TESTING IT

These additional permissions are not linked to roles:
; Politics: Marking this will make the settlement a permanent democracy (founding mayors can revert).
; Unlimited citizens: Allows the recruitment of citizens above the maximum amount. While you are above the maximum amount of citizens upkeep is doubled.
; Merchants: Allows placing of personal merchants.
; Items and creatures : This allows anyone to pick up items and tame animals within the settlement (but not inside buildings). Allies are always able to pick up items, to let them tame animals this permission still needs to be checked.

Icedblood: removed redundant sentence

A round small glass orb with a faintly shining liquid. It is commonly used by miners to create cave-ins.

A shaker orb is used to collapse cave tiles. It is sold by traders around the lands of Wurm for 5 silver coins. It is a one-use item.

Shaker orb can instantly collapse a single cave tile. It can be used both inside a cave to collapse a tile underground, as well as on the surface to close a cave entrance.

Cave tiles that are reinforced by support beams CAN NOT be collapsed due the supported tile not being empty. Tile being supported is full of rock. The cave tile next to a supported cave tile can be collapsed. This does not remove the support beam from the supported cave tile. The cave tile with support beams is still there, and when the cave tiles next to it are mined out, the support beamed tile will still be there with the support beam intact.

The shaker orb can be used to collapse an empty tile that has both a support beamed rock tile on the right and on the left of the empty tile being collapsed. The support beamed tiles are still there, and they are not removed.

In this example you can collapse all of the 0 tiles. (You can not collapse the tiles already fill with rock.)
}R=Rock; 0=Empty; X=Support Beamed Tile<BR>

You could collapse all 0 (empty) tiles making it look like this:
R || R || R || R || R
R || X || R || X || R
R || R || R || R || R
R || R || R || X || R
R || R || R || R || R
}R=Rock; X=Support Beamed Tile<BR>

After which you could mine out all of the R tiles again. But not the X, unless you are mayor of that tile.

Strongwall is a Magranon spell that has similar effects.

How to use a Shaker Orb
To use the Shaker Orb, double-click it to activate it as you would any other tool. Right click on the FLOOR of the tile you want to collapse, and select 'Collapse' from the menu.

Note: There is NO confirmation box - so make sure you collapse the correct tile or you could end up paying for another one!!

Message
You throw the shaker orb on the ground. The earth suddenly shakes and the rock falls in!
Can be improved with recast and seems to last longer with more power as well as spawn more impressive creatures such as dragons, reportedly ~1.5 minutes at 60 power. The players currently stationed here are often welcoming to any newcomers in need of assistance or veterans willing to help in the community and increase the support given from player the player. == Description ==
The bison are impressive creatures when moving in hordes.

Bison are non-aggressive animals that can be tamed. Bison are fairly easy to tame and can be tamed with a fairly low Animal Taming skill using mixed grass and grains. They graze similar to cows, meaning they will eat grass tiles.

Bison can be used to pull large carts.

Both male and female bison exist. Bison can breed.
They take a lot of damage and many arrows glance off their thick skin, making them useful for dragging carts in pvp events.
A wood mine door is a carpentry item used to limit access to a mine.

Usage
* Activate the mine door, right-click a mine tile border, and select build door

Notes
* Mine doors cannot be placed on entrances with a slope of greater than 90.
* Plank QL affects the chance of success while constructing.
* Right-click on the door to manage the permissions.
* Decays over time (loses Strength and disappears when it drops to 0). Average decay amounts to 40 strength points per RL day. Mine door decay always takes place in steps of 100 and the actual daily value is random. It sometimes happens that there is no visible decay for several days (strength can remain constant for as much as 7 days) and then suddenly drops by 200. For example, a wooden mine door of 2000 strength will last approximately 50 days. Once down to 300 a mine door should be improved with planks or it will soon vanish.
* Decay on deed as well
* Unlike the rock mine door, a wooden mine door can be improved with a plank after it is placed. The plank need to be at least strength/100 ql, else the following message will be displayed:

You cannot strengthen this door any further with that item and your knowledge.

It may also require a certain skill to improve at high strength. (more testing needed)

* When a wood mine door is made out of 20ql items the strength will be exactly 1600.
* Total materials required to build : 21x plank, 2x large nails, 1x door lock
At least one player has found the best way to grind bowery skill is to create 10 to 20 of a certain type of bow. There does not seem to be a skill difference between improving a normal bow or a short bow, so going with a short bow is easier, as it takes less skill to make.

Once many bows have been made, improve them all to 10QL, and then increase them all to 10+ bowery skill. You will quickly get to a point where you need to make more bows to imp, so always have some new ones handy. A toolbelt is VERY handy to have around.

Icedblood: /* Notes */ fixed reference to females being able to breed right after birth, no longer possible

Main / Skills / Nature / PAGENAME

Description
Animal husbandry allows for the production (breeding) of new creatures, sometimes with increased quality, without the need to wait for new spawns.

Characteristics gained
Soul / Soul depth

Method
*Both of the animals you wish to breed must be not hungry. One must be a male and the other one a female. Lead one of them with a rope (note that some animals must be tamed to be led) and move it close to the other one. Right-click on the animal you are not leading and select the "Breed" option.
*Grooming also gives animal husbandry skill gains. Activate a grooming brush and select groom while right-clicking on a groomable creature. You can groom animals once per hour.

Notes
* Animals must be of the same species.
* If breeding fails, you will receive a message that the male "shys away and interrupts the action".
* If breeding fails or is successful and you attempt to breed again, the male animal will show that he's "not in the mood" until 45 real life minutes pass.
* Females will not breed while they are pregnant. Once the female gives birth, she will not be in mood for breeding for 24 more hours, after which breeding may resume.
* Animals do not have to be "fat" to breed, only "no longer interested in food" (when trying to feed them). Grass eaters will typically be in this state after a minute or 2 on grass or crops.
* Age is a factor in breeding: calves or foals will not breed, neither will young/early adolescent animals.
* Breeding increases a player's soul depth.
* Pregnancy times varies from 5-11 wurm weeks, regardless of species.
* Examining the animal will show the remaining wurm weeks left until birth. eg. She will deliver in about 4
* Animals can have miscarriages which can kill the mother.
* If too hungry or low on fat animals can die when giving birth.
* Breeding female animals with conditions such as Champion will provide a chance that the offspring will also have that characteristic. This chance is dramatically increased when breeding two animals with the same condition together. (Two Champions for example.)
* Breeding two animals with the same trait greatly increases the chance that the offspring will have the trait.
* The name is determined at birth, the traits are determined at breeding (noticed on a server revert on 2011-03-01)
* The horse's color from birth is determined based on 1/3 by the mother, 1/3 by the father, and 1/3 by random.

Traits
Bred animals have a chance of having traits.(Enhancement/Deformity). Animals can have multiple traits. Traits are gained based on mechanics below:
* All traits are put into the gene pool.
* Parents' trait then add %chance that traits from parents will appear. if both parents have same trait, this %chance is even a lot higher.
* Inbreeding add %chance that bad traits will appear.
*Lastly, breeder's Animal Husbandry and horses generation affect the minimum and maximum number of traits that will appear in a horse. (Currently the maximum number of traits experienced on one animal in game is ??)

Examining an animal will show traits, if one has the required skill level:

Freedom Skill Level (Epic Skill Curve Level) 'skill': "Trait name" (Suspected function)
* 0 skill: Horse's color is considered a trait. (Although it DOES NOT go against the trait limit.)
* 20 (10.56) skill: "It will fight fiercely." (Higher fighting skill?)
* 21 (11.12) skill: "It has fleeter movement than normal." (Minor speed boost.)
* 22 (11.68) skill: "It is a tough bugger." (Withstands more damage.)
* 23 (12.25) skill: "It has a strong body." (Bonus to maintaining top speed.)
* 24 (12.82) skill: "It has lightning movement." (Randomly increases speed for a short duration.)
* 25 (13.40) skill: "It can carry more than average." (Less penalty to speed due to high load.)
* 26 (13.98) skill: "It has very strong leg muscles." (Less penalty to speed due to slope? Does not currently do this.)
* 27 (14.56) skill: "It has keen senses." (Increased aggression range, or possibly harder to tame?)
* 28 (15.15) skill: "It has malformed hindlegs." (Minor speed penalty)*
* 29 (15.74) skill: "The legs are of different length." (Major speed penalty)*
* 30 (16.33) skill: "It seems overly aggressive." (Goes into frenzy when attacked)*
* 31 (16.93) skill: "It looks very unmotivated." (Seldom uses speed boosts?)*
* 32 (17.54) skill: "It is unusually strong willed." (Will stop being led at random.)*
* 33 (18.15) skill: "It has some illness." (Body strength will slowly reduce over time, which will eventually making the animal unrideable. Note: Genesis will cause it to slowly regain strength up to it's old level.)*
* 34 (18.76) skill: "It looks constantly hungry." (is twice as fast to become hungry again.)*
* 39 (21.90) skill: "It looks feeble and unhealthy." (Prone to catching a disease.)*
* 40 (22.54) skill: "It looks unusually strong and healthy." (Has a higher resistance to disease.)
* 41 (23.19) skill: "It has a certain spark in its eyes." (Affects breeding? <s>Will not die of old age?</s> Disproved, see talk.)
(All "?" are unconfirmed, traits with a * are removed by a Genesis cast)

Inbreeding
Inbreeding has a negative effect. It adds extra negative traits that don't count against the regular traits pool.

Inbreeding is mating with the father or mother or when the two animals have the same father or mother. Basically if you only can find two horses you'll be ok in three generations. But it might be better to mate your horses with your neighbors horses.

Important to note
Players have observed that dead parents don't count towards the 'inbreeding' check:

"I have often used it as a method of breeding, to kill the old parents when I had too many horses that had a parent in common. After the parents are dead, you can breed and get normal horses. Leave the parents alive and you get lots of bad traited animals." Source

Caring
To prolong venerable animals from dying of old age you can care for them. To start caring stand next to the animal, right click the animal and select Care for. If you start caring for that animal you'll get the message:
You now care specially for Aged fat Tearbabe, to ensure longevity. You may care for 1 more creatures.

The amount of animals you can care for is limited by the animal husbandry skill of the player. If you can't care for more animals you'll get the message
You may not care for any more creatures right now. You are already caring for 1 creatures.

You can care for 1 animal and 1 extra animal for every 10 skill in animal husbandry. So at 40 Animal husbandry skill you can care for 5 animals.

Note: Non-premium players can only care for 1 animal.

To stop caring for all cared animals type the command /stopcaring in the chat window. You'll get the message
You no longer care for the one creature you used to.

To stop caring for a specific animal, you will need to right click the animal and 'care for' again.

You can get a list of all the animals you are currently caring for by using the command /caringfor

To do this - Press F1 to open console and type in Bind {key} "say Help". Replace {key} with the key you wish to bind it to.

*Guards can walk though locked gates.

Number of guards responding per call seems to depend on total number of guards as well as distance between target and tower.

*Guards automatically attack nearby KoS and hostile players. Such player needs to be maximum few tiles away from the guard, distance to tower doesn't seem to matter. Guards are very fast and relentless, they may chase you hundreds of tiles away and will continue even if you leave KoS deed area.

Main / Carpentry / PAGENAME

A wooden house (more accurately, a wooden building) is relatively easy and fast to build, it requires less skill and resources than a stone house, and offers basic protection from decay, theft, and invaders.

Notes
* When building a wall, window, or door, the quality of the materials and the player's skills affect the initial quality of the piece built.

Method
Building
# Create a building plan for the future structure.
# Activate a mallet, right-click the wall plan, and select the desired wall type.
# With the mallet still activated, right-click the wall plan, and select "Continue building" until the wall, window, or door is finished.
* The initial action consumes one large nails and one plank; each subsequent action consumes one plank from the player's inventory.
* A building plan with no walls will decay in a few real-life days so make sure to start at least one wall.

Inner walls
To plan inner walls activate a mallet or trowel, right-click a tile border inside the house and select Plan > Inner wall. On the wall plan select a wall type and continue as explained above.

Note: Only the owner of the house writ can add inner walls, and it requires 30 Carpentry skill to plan.

Tools required
* Mallet

Items required
* 1x large nails per wall
* 20x planks per wall

Repairing and improving
* Any damage must be repaired on the walls with a plank before improving it.
* Activate a plank, right-click the wall, and select "Repair" or "Improve".
* The effective quality of the plank is affected by its damage and the player's carpentry skill.
* Any quality plank can be used to repair and improve a wall (which will improve by between around .04-1.5+ QL per plank--more research needed but a higher QL plank will yield more improved QL).
* 1 plank of any QL will only repair 10 damage.

Skills used
* Carpentry

Icedblood: corrected a statement about houses being immutable

See also Build House

Description
A house is a structure meant for living, storage, gateway or similar, built of wood or stone, on flat ground: house tiles can now only be planned on perfectly flat ground (slope of 0 dirts). The maximum length of a house is 20 tiles in one direction.

You are not required to complete a building before you will be allowed to build or plan another one, however if you wish to do so you must wait until a server reset.

<s>(or 24 hours)</s> Was only a myth, back when server restarts were more nearly everyday.

<s>Once finalized, the footprint of a house may not be altered.</s> With the introduction on multilevel houses, writ owners can now expand and modify houses once they are complete. The removal of walls and floors in this process is best done with a Carving knife.

Newer players may want to have a look at the Build House guide for more direction.

Usage
A house preserves your possessions by reducing decay, and to a degree, protects them from theft. If the doors are equipped with a door lock, no one may enter your house except the friends you give permission to, unless the door is lockpicked.

Beds, which are useful for gaining sleep bonus, only work when inside a house.

If the owner of a house has not logged in for 1.5 months, the house is marked as abandoned, and takes much higher decay damage.

:On the Freedom server, a locked house is the single best protection against theft. Whether on deed or off, houses there cannot be bashed down or lockpicked, though anyone can enter if you do not put door locks on all doors. Since a house's locks cannot be picked on Freedom, the door lock's quality isn't really very important there.

Writ and Management
When the house is fully planned the planner will get a writ of ownership. The house can be managed by right clicking on the writ and selecting manage. In the management window you can modify various settings for the house. These settings will not take effect unless every exterior door of the building has a door lock attached.

You can add and remove friends as guests on the house. The guest has the right to pass locked doors, pick up items in the house and to build, repair and even destroy house walls unless prohibited by a deed. If arched walls are used in the exterior guest rules still apply and only guests will be able to pick up items in the house (as long as there is a locked door exterior wall).

You can lock and unlock all doors with door locks on the building. If you are citizen of a deed you can allow citizens and allies to pass locked doors. This does not allow them to pick up items or to modify the house like guests can.

You can change the house name or destroy the whole house in this window.

Trading the writ passes ownership. You will lose all rights on the house until the new owner adds you as a guest.

Naming
When the plan is finished the writ will be given a default name that consists of the creator's name and a designation depending on the size of the house. The name can be changed through writ management.

Designations used, based on number of tiles:

* shed - 1, 2
* shack - 3
* cottage - 4, 5
* house - 6
* villa - 7 to 10
* mansion - 11 to 20
* estate - 21 to 30
* stronghold - 31 to 65 (max)

Description
Butchering is the skill used to butcher corpses to get items like pelts, meat and other animal parts. Butchering skill is also used when fileting meat or fish.

Method
* Examine the corpse first to see if it has already been butchered.
* Activate a butchering knife
* Right-click a corpse
* Select Butcher
* Open the corpse and drag the desired butchering products to your inventory. Or if you bury the butchered corpse, the items will stay on ground.

You can also butcher with other sharp-edged tools like carving knife, hatchet, pickaxe, shovel, sickle, stone chisel or sword, but using a butchering knife gives more items.

Note: Butchering human corpses makes your alignment drop by 1 and does not give any butchering skill.

Butchering Products
See Animals table for which animals give which butchering products:

* Animal fat
* Bladder
* Tail
* Tooth
* Twisted unicorn horn

Fileting
Fileting cuts up meat or fish in 0.3 kg meat filet or fish filet portions. Fish or meat piece smaller than 0.3 kg will be discarded, so a 0.8 kg fish will give only two 0.3 kg fish filets.

# Activate a butchering knife or carving knife
# Right-click a piece of meat or fish
# Select Filet
# The filets will go in your inventory.

Resultant filet quality depends on your butchering skill, the quality of the meat or fish, the quality of the knife, and how well you can use your knife (butchering knife skill or carving knife skill). Fileting never fails as such, but you may get some 1 ql filets.

Butchering and fileting raise these characteristics:
Description
A felled tree is primarily used for making logs, wooden palisade gates, palisades, keel sections and masts. The quality of the felled tree depends on the woodcutting skill of the chopper as well as the quality of the axe that was used to cut it down. Older trees (except shrivelled ones) produce a larger felled tree than younger trees. The trees which produce the heaviest felled tree are birch, cedar, maple, oak, pine, and willow.

To produce the heaviest possible (186.67kg) felled tree and thus the most usable wood, it is best to wait until the tree has reached very old age.
