To raise carpentry initially, below 40 to 50, one of the best ways is by building houses.

Later, the main carpentry skill can be raised by improving mallets and fishing rods.

Beyond 50 to 60, a good way to raise the main carpentry skill is to develop the subskills, ie fine carpentry, bowyery, fletching, toy making and ship building.
*From experimentation it seems that developing Fine Carpentry gives more skill gain to Carpentry compared to the other subskills, such as Bowyery. This is not a conclusive fact, however, as more experimentation and data is needed. (4/Jan/2014)
*At 70 Carpentry and 40 Fine Carpentry, 1.00 skill-gain in Fine Carpentry was contributing to 0.15 skill-gain in Carpentry. By comparison, 1.00 skill-gain in Bowyery at level 40 was only contributing 0.085 to 0.09 skill-gain in Carpentry. (4/Jan/2014)

Infinitai: made some grammatical changes

The Freedom Tournament (formerly known as The Akhenaten Tournament) is the biggest player-made Event in the History of Wurm Online and hosted in different arenas around the Freedom cluster two or three times a year. The inventor and main organizer is Sklo.
It generally has 9 Leagues (for example, a League with players who have 0 - 9.99 main fighting skill) and the winner of one of those Leagues receives extremely valuable, donated prizes.
We even had a real-live trove and drake sets!
The main idea is that even a player with 9 fighting skill can win the same value of prize as the best possible fighter.
Sometimes there are even prizes for spectators too.

Rules
These can change at any time!
#Fighting is only allowed with provided gear; you have the right to pick a weapon/shield of your choice.
#The provided gear is only borrowed and must be given back after the fight.
#The fight starts with the word "start" and ends with the event massage.
#The winner is pronounced in the event message post-fight.
#Only Spares are allowed.
#Any offensive/defensive spells or healing during the fight is forbidden.
#Any spells or mediation bonuses that may give you an advantage during the fight are forbidden.
#You only can win the prizes of one League, if you win more than one leagues with alts the prizes which you made with your alts will go to the second place of the league.
#If you have a mediation bonus that can't be turned off you can fight but you forgo your chance to win anything. You will receive the subtitle [out of competition].

Description
An ingenious system of pockets, pouches, hooks and holes designed to keep a wide array of common tools.

A toolbelt is a piece of HUD that allows you to place up to ten tools or materials on it for quick selection.

Creation
* The hooks' QL affects the success rate.
* On failure, the hooks and the leather belt are damaged. They can be repaired though.
* Adding the cloth only uses 0.3 kg even if the piece is bigger.

rare
Toolbelts with rare properties have been seen to have additional slots. A rare toolbelt has 1 extra slot; a supreme toolbelt has 2 extra slots; it would be logical to assume that fantastic has 3 extra slots. Note: the maximum number of slots a toolbelt can have is locked at 10, thus even a fantastic toolbelt at maximum (99 QL) would only have 10 slots as opposed to 13. This is confirmed by many.

Usage
* Wear (equip) the toolbelt on the legs of your torso, and the toolbelt will appear on the HUD (like the compass).
* The toolbelt must be at least 10 QL before it will even appear on the HUD, even if it is already worn on the legs. There is one slot every 10 QL up to nine at QL90. However, ten is the maximum number of slots and appears at QL99 instead of QL100.
* A rare toolbelt has 1 more slot than the equivalent normal toolbelt.
* A supreme toolbelt has 2 more slots than the equivalent normal toolbelt.
* Drag tools from your inventory into the toolbar's slots. They can later be removed from the belt by clicking on them with the Shift key held down, or replaced by other tools.
* The slots can be bound to hotkeys. Default is <code>bind 1 ACTIVATE_TOOL1</code> and so on, up to 10.
* Putting a container in the toolbelt and activating it selects items in the container if there are any. This is especially useful when sowing large fields or attaching lots of identical items to large creations such as ships. Filling up several containers on the toolbelt and using an attach or sow keybind, one can queue up lots of actions without ever using the mouse.
* If you hide the toolbelt, it can be redisplayed using the main options menu or typing "toggle toolbelt" into the console.
Profiles
With a bit of work you can create Toolbelt Profiles that you can use to swiftly switch between different custom sets of toolbelt bindings (e.g. one for carpentry, one for blacksmithing, etc.)
New Server - Release (south of Pristine)
From Poseidon (blog): "Due to the success and population of the Pristine server, we felt that it was time to launch another server connected to the south of Pristine.

The new server is named Release (December 19, 2012) and you may access it by sailing south on a boat. It is not connected to the main Freedom servers at the moment and will be connected to the rest of the Freedom cluster at the same time as Pristine.

Thank you everyone for your support and welcome to all of our new players! We’ve seen a very pleasing rise in playercount since Wurm has hit 1.0. We’ve got a few more issues to deal with but we’re making really great progress in that direction."
<br><small>--Mirabelle 13:41, 23 December 2012 (UTC)</small>

Official release of Wurmonline 1.0 and launch of new Freedom server: Pristine
From Rolf (blog): "Alright, the cat’s out of the bag!

We’re officially releasing Wurm Online 1.0 on the 12th December 2012.

What it means is Wurm will contain the (improved) features that we consider make the game marketable. We will finally have character customization, visible armour, multi storey buildings and nicer looking creatures.

We are also planning to open up at least one pristine freedom server that won’t be connected to the freedom cluster for an undetermined amount of time in order to provide that total newbie feeling.

As most of you have noticed during all these years we’ve kept a low profile when it comes to attracting customers. It has been a deliberate strategy due to our special development situation. It has worked well and we have attracted the customer base we’ve needed to keep the flame burning.

Once we’ve released, that strategy will change to a more open one and we will spend more time communicating next year. Stargrace and Wossoo have done a great job with that so far with the twitter and facebook accounts and tried to keep you guys informed about what we’ve been doing in development."
<br><small>--Mirabelle 13:32, 23 December 2012 (UTC)</small>

Dev Q&A discussion for the Wurm 1.0 Launch
On Decemeber 07, 2012, the Dev Team held an IRC discussion to address questions submitted to them related to the 1.0 Launch and ongoing development plans.

The transcript was recorded and provided by Ruger in the forum here Forum Link

Due to the length of the transcript, sections are broken out under spoiler tags for ease of reading and identification of content/subject.
<br><small>--Hussars 23:19, 07 December 2012 (UTC)</small>
A Fourth Freedom Server has been launched - Celebration
From Rolf (mail): "All this means that it's time for Celebration, so we're opening a new Freedom server with that name tomorrow! Isn't that great?

The new server will be located on the south border of Exodus. The opening is scheduled at 15.00 hrs CET on the 31st of May and hopefully everything goes as smooth as I expect. Wish me luck!"
<br><small>--Daray 00:20, 14 July 2012 (UTC)</small>

A Third Freedom Server has been launched - Exodus
From Rolf (blog): "The Deliverance server is still being settled, and I’ve decide to release even more land south of it. The Exodus server will be made available tomorrow at 18.00 CET (September 15, 2011).

The idea is that it will cater for those who felt they missed out on the soft spots of Deliverance. I think Exodus is a beautiful server personally, but I may be shooting off the target with it because it’s so infested with creatures that I fear people will die. Instead of successfully settling the land, they will respawn at the start village without their tools and weapons, surrounded by equally fragile newbies.

If you decide to go there, do not blame me for leading you on! I have tried to warn you. You will need to survive long enough to settle down. Then again, backing up into the water or onto the boat should suffice in most situations I guess.

What you who start as newbies somewhere in the center area will do I don’t know. I think you will have to slowly wear down the wall of critters with your own wall of meat and maybe build some towers to help clear the way."
<br><small>--Mirabelle 11:42, 23 September 2011 (UTC)</small>

A Second Freedom Server has been launched - Deliverance
Due to congestion and the relative difficulty of finding virgin lands on the current Independence server, we’ve decided that it is time to release a new Freedom server. We shall call it Deliverance and it will be the new default server for newbies.
This historical land rush event – the first in several years – is scheduled Tuesday at 18.00 hrs CET (the 6th of Sept). The new lands will be located south of the existing Independence server and you will be able to sail there. The only portal that leads to it will be from the tutorial server. Due to technical difficulties the launch was postponed for 1 day.
<br><small>--Mirabelle 01:07, 14 September 2011 (UTC)</small>

50/50 ratio for aggressive and non-aggressive animals
To help remedy the controversy between Wurmian hunters and breeders, the creature spawning/breeding now has two pools where 50% is reserved for aggressive animals and 50% for non-aggressive. This should even out over time. When a cap is reached you will not be able to breed more animals, but already pregnant animals will still give birth. See here for a more details. <br><small>--Mirabelle 08:24, 29 April 2011 (UTC)</small>

Goodbye Home Servers
A melancholy day in Wurm Online as the much loved home servers are removed for good. Such is the price of progress however, as the new Freedom server has been booming in player activity, reaching a peak player count of over two-hundred. Characters on Jenn-Kellon and Mol-Rehan home who have had premium in the past but who didn't migrate have now been moved to the wild server, and the others who have never been premium were deleted. In unrelated news, the artifacts on the wild server have been reset and the race is on once again to find them. <br><small>Jup 04:19, 16 July 2009 (CDT)</small>

Freedom Server
New lands exist to be explored! The Freedom server has no player versus player combat, no resource QL cap, and is premium only. You can find this exciting new server by sailing south of the home servers or taking a freedom stone. The home servers will both be shutting down in a few weeks, cutting Freedom off from Wild. Other changes include new player models for Freedom, new ground textures, and much more!<br>
--<small>thorgot 10:17, 23 June 2009 (CDT)</small><br>

Mounts and Sounds
Wurm has now the ability to ride animals and to let them drag large carts.
For a list of rideable animals and useful tips look at the the mount page.<br>
Also there are now realistic ambient sounds.<br>

New Sandbox/Tutorial Server
A new server has been launched to help players new to Wurm become more easily acquainted with the Game. Also Jenn-Kellon home is no longer free-to-play.<br/>
See here for a more detailed list of the changes.<br/>

Mol-Rehan Home
There is now a second home server, this one is for the kingdom of Mol-Rehan and is premium only. It is located to the west of the wild server and is a completely new land mass.
<small>--Mollsmolyneux 14:26, 21 July 2008 (CDT)</small>
Boats and Ships
Boats and ships can now be made on the main servers. They require a lot of parts to be made though, so you will need more than one person working on one to complete it!

<small>--Godly 15:50, 28 June 2008 (GMT)</small>
Test Server - Boats
Boats are currently in pubilc testing on the test server, so to help Rolf finish the code and get them implemented into the main servers test them and post bugs in the City Hall topic on boats.
Player Petition Successful
A petition started by a group of players unhappy with the brightness of the grass in the game was succesful.<br/> This shows that the developers of Wurm do listen to the community. Yay for grass that doesn't look radioactive!<br/>
The BoK and "Ageless" title have been given out. There's no chance to get one now (for the moment at least).
Main Page Re-design
I've re-designed the Main Page. I've worked on it for a while and I think it's a great, clean change to the old, slightly messed up one.

I nearly did the whole thing in HTML, if anyone wants to they can convert it to wiki code.

If anyone adds a link then please keep it tidy.

Thanks!

Everyone who wants to receive a bag of keeping and "Beta Tester" title should get a paying account by this time. They will be given out and after this date nobody else will be able to get the title and get a bag of keeping easily.

Players may occasionally succeed in creating rare, supreme, or even fantastic items. These tools are faster, weapons do more damage, and armour protects a bit better. This may also happen as you improve or polish items and rare items may turn into even rarer items. Constructing new items using rare materials may turn the unfinished item into a rare item. Rare guard towers spawn more guards, for instance. More functionality will be added over time.

Premium players have a 2% added bonus to the creation of supreme items over non-premium players.

However, some GM sources have stated that the maximum number of slots a toolbelt can have is locked at 10, thus even a fantastic toolbelt at maximum (99 QL) would only have 10 slots as opposed to 13. This remains unconfirmed.

Quote from the Sending dialog : Use mailboxes with caution and inexpensive items until you rely on the spirits. They are still learning, and take no responsibility for lost items.

Description
You can send mail to other players in the game via spirit containers which have been enchanted by priests/priestesses of Fo or Libila with the spells Courier or Dark Messenger respectively.

Types of spirit containers
There is no difference in operation between the various spirit containers.
*Spirit house - Fine Carpentry
*Spirit mansion - Fine Carpentry
*Spirit cottage - Masonry
*Spirit castle - Masonry

Sending process
To send the mail, drop the item(s) into the spirit container, then right-click the container, and select Send. There are two dialogs that you will to control how the items are sent. The first allows you to specify the name of the recipient, and what items should be send using C.O.D. (Cash on delivery). It also allows to skip the second dialog. The second dialog allows you to see how much the delivery charge will be, and to specify the C.O.D. amount you will charge the recipient if applicable.

NOTICE: Items will be mailed to the server the recipient is currently present on. It can only be retrieved from that server

Receiving process
To receive or check for mail, right-click any spirit container and select Check. If an item is sent as Cash On Delivery you need to have the money in your bank to cover the delivery charge before you can receive the items.

You also have the option to return the items to the sender.

Non-retrieved items
Same server
If the recipient does not pick up their mail within two weeks, they are automatically returned-to-sender.

If the original sender does not pick up the returned items within two weeks, they are destroyed.

Cross server
If the recipient does not pick up their mail within two weeks, they are destroyed.

If the recipient uses return-to-sender and the original sender does not pick up the items within two weeks, they are destroyed.

<span style="text-decoration: underline;">There is no way to extract items from the mail system if you are not the recipient !</span>

If you are sending something valuable, ensure that the recipient is available to pick it up before you send it. If you return an item to the sender, it would be good manners to contact them to ensure they retrieve it before the two week deadline.

Postage charges
The postage is 10 copper per item if the receiver is on the same server, or 20 copper per item if on another server. Cross-server mailing is currently limited to within the Freedom Isles (Independence, Deliverance, Exodus, Celebration, and Chaos). An exception to this is the postage fee for inscribed papyrus sheets is 40 iron, even for cross-server deliveries.

The postage fee is taken from the bank account of the sender as the items are sent, unless they are C.O.D., in which case it is taken from the recipient when received.

Items sent in containers still incur fees. Example : A backpack with 3 wood scraps in it would cost you 4 x 10 copper (1x backpack, 3x wood scrap) to send due to being counted as 4 separate items. Also, combing items (e.g. Lumps) does not decrease the mailing cost, so a 4kg lump costs the same as 4x 1kg lumps.

Delivery times
Any items sent via mailbox have a predetermined time for mailing. The strength of the enchant affects this (and appears to be 101 minus the cast strength in minutes).

* 31 - A bit more than one hour (Estimate 70 minutes)
* 48 - A bit less than one hour (Estimate 55 minutes)
* 63 - Less than one hours (Estimate 35 to 40 minutes)
* 78 - Less than 30 minutes (Estimate 25 minutes)
* 90 - Less than ten minutes
* 99 - Less than ten minutes (2 minutes)

Can be sent
To raise carpentry initially, below 40 to 50, one of the best ways is by building houses.

Later, the main carpentry skill can be raised by improving mallets and fishing rods.
Beyond 50 to 60, a good way to raise the main carpentry skill is to develop the subskills, ie fine carpentry, bowyery, fletching, toy making and ship building.
Description
A small but heavy metal anvil.

Small anvil is used in the creation of many small metal crafts. It requires less iron to make than the large anvil.

Creation
The quality of the hammer or mallet used will affect the chance of success. Failure in creation will result in a reduction of 0.20 kg of the weight of the lump.

Using
Activate a "glowing from heat" lump, right-click the small anvil in your inventory, and 'Create >'.
Wurm currently has three types of server: Entry, Freedom and Wild. A fourth type called 'Epic' (scenario lands) is planned. There is also a login server and a test server (which can be accessed via the wiki - see the link bar at the top left).

Server type details
Entry servers
Entry servers are where all new accounts are created. The server contains JK, MR and HotS, but HotS is limited to PAs and GMs. The aim of the Entry servers are to let new players try the game for free in almost all its glory. Players may then move on from the Entry servers to other server types using portals. Premium must be purchased to be able to do this and has no effect till the player leaves the server.
Entry servers only allow basic accounts, so skills are limited to a maximum of 20. This means resource quality is also limited to 20. There is also no gods or altars present on the Entry servers.

PvP, theft, deeds, and guard towers are not allowed on the Entry server. On Entry servers, decay is also 3 times faster and the server may be periodically reset (has not occurred yet).

Freedom servers
Fully owned by the native kingdom. The entire server is automatically claimed as kingdom territory, so guard towers are not required to plant deeds.
Theft, PvP, and other kinds of grieving are frowned upon, and are bannable offences in many instances. GMs will police these servers as needed, but ideally the game rules should take care of things automatically. Moderators police the kingdom chat channels to ensure the chat rules are followed.

See the freedom FAQ for more details.

Wild servers
Wild servers are battlegrounds where different kingdoms clash together. There is no pre-owned land, it must be claimed by constructing guard towers. Deeds can only be placed within the territories claimed by the towers.
Full PvP is enabled between kingdoms, as well as internally within your own kingdom. The white light and black light are found on the wild server. Each kingdom on wild has a leader and offices granted to players by the leader.
GMs generally avoid intervening in wild server affairs. However, excessive griefing and other violations of the game rules will be punished as appropriate. On wild servers monsters are tougher and the terrain is harsher. [citation needed]

Epic servers
Currently not much information is know about this server type as its still in the planning and implementation phase. Epic servers will run scenarios that form the story. A scenario will have permanent impact on the world and the success is dependent on the players.

Inter-server travel
It is possible to travel between the wild and freedom servers via portals at all of the capital deeds (Samling and Freedom Market on Freedom; the Landing, the Shroud and the Gold Coast on wild). The only items you can take with you when changing servers are coins, nodrop items (e.g. spyglasses, bags of keeping) and the starter tool kit. Each time you cross servers, 10 silver is deducted from your bank account as payment. Additionally, fighting and archery skills are subject to a 5% penalty when crossing if either is above 50, meaning a 70 skill fighter will end up with 66.5 fighting upon arriving.

Travel from the Golden Valley server is one-way only, and can only be done if your character is premium. Once you are on a premium server you may not go back to the Golden Valley, unless you start a new character.

http://img46.imageshack.us/img46/5789/wurm.png

Test servers
The test servers exists to test large game updates before they are added to the main servers. There is currently only one test server.
