The history of the town of Hammerfell
The second oldest town in Wurm, Hammerfell had its roots as an unofficial satellite of Whosville. After the fall of WV however, the people of Hammerfell struck out as their own entity. Settling in a narrow valley, we founded a small village and named it Pit because of the location and its mining effort. But the town of Pit was short lived. After a betrayal from within Pit met its destruction and we began searching for a new home. After exploring vast lands, Krelos led us to our home in the mountains. Here we grew in size and power and gained a reputation as some of the greatest road builders. But it was not meant to last.

The great cataclysm struck and all that was ceased to be. We found ourselves in a new land of virgin forests and fierce trolls. It was in this place we finally took the name Hammerfell and grew into a great city. Peace was foreign to this land and raiders roamed free across the world. It was during a time of peace, declared by the gods themselves, that the raiders struck at us. They escaped with such stealth that even the servants of the gods did not see them as they emptied our storehouses of gold. Outraged at the gods indifference to this crime against their decree, we struck back at them in full force and crippled their base of operations. Or so we thought. Over the next few months reports of new attacks began to come in. Eventually entire towns were destroyed and many survivors sought refuge with us, telling stories of terrifying warriors who could not be killed.

In the end we too were assaulted by this mysterious force. They bled out of the forest near Hammerfell and walked toward the walls with steady complacency. Shouts went up and our warriors went out to meet them as the archers climbed the wall. When they reached our men we realised why they were invulnerable. They were the very same raiders we had slain many months before, now walking dead and unable to die a second time. Though there was far fewer of them, they quickly overwhelmed our force and made for the walls even as they were filled with arrows. All seemed lost and we were forced to flee the city with what we could carry. From a hilltop some kilometers away we could see the fires burning Hammerfell to the ground and sending a column of smoke into the clouds. All we had known for so long, destroyed in a single night. We also learned that our close neighbors and allies, Daargard and Asgard, had met the same fate that night.

Those who had the desire to rebuild returned to the city several days later. The long process had barely begun however when a messenger from the gods came. He told us that soon all would be remade, all that was lost would be regained and we would be taken to a new world. That night we went to sleep in our ruined city but woke atop a hill in a place we did not know.

Some of us chose to reject violence utterly and founded the Abbey of Lhasa. Others wanted to learn the dark ways and gain the power that we had seen in the undead. Still others wanted to pursue a peaceful life, much as they had always known. And so for many years, Hammerfell ceased to be. But now our return is at hand and we will raise up a great kingdom, united by the banner of Hammerfell. A kingdom of strength and honor, standing against the darkness that creeps out from the Black Altar.

New Citizens are always welcome, but be warned, thieves will not be tolerated. We are a very laid back, helpful and friendly community.
Come check us out!
To see a list of the current settlements, see the Category Settlements.

A settlement is an area of land owned by a player or group of players. There are two kinds of settlements: villages and homesteads. A settlement is marked by a settlement token in the exact center of the settlement.

Advantages
* Deed guards protecting the settlement
* Reduced decay on structures
* Village chat (not for homesteads)
* Respawn at your own settlement from anywhere on the map when you die.
* Respawn at allied settlements that are within 50 tiles when you die.
* Skill-loss when dying on your own deed or allied deed is only 0.025. Suicides have the normal skill-loss of 0.25.
* Control of who is allowed which actions within the settlement area
* Setting reputations to keep out unwanted people
* A settlement token to have your bank account at
* Instant logout when leaving Wurm inside the settlement (some exceptions apply)
* Champions suiciding on a deed get a 50% chance of not counting as a real death
* Less skill decay (see the token for how much)
* Size 10 village deeds and above receive a trader (homesteads do not)

Founding
To found a settlement you must first obtain a deed. Unlike writs, which are created by building a house, deeds must be purchased from a NPC trader. Village deeds at size 10 or more include a free trader. The price of a village deed starts at 25 silver for a size 5, while homestead deeds start at 5 silver.

New settlements have some restrictions on placement. Villages must be placed at least 100 tiles away from the nearest village, or 50 tiles away from the nearest homestead.

Homesteads must be placed at least 20 tiles away from settlements with the other settlements permission enabled. If it is disabled, it must be at least 50 tiles away if the other settlement is a homestead, or 100 tiles away if it is a village. This distance is counted from both settlements' border, not the token.

Settlements can only be founded within your kingdom. On the wild server, this might require building guard towers.

The settlement is usually centered on the settlement token, and covers its size in tiles in every direction. A size 10 settlement thus covers a 21x21 square (10 + 1 + 10). This area includes the tile borders' "outside" the outermost tiles.

If the founding tile of the settlement has a house or fences, the token is moved to a random spot away from them. The deed borders do not move with it.

Disbanding
* A deed may be disbanded. The owner receives half of the cost of the deed, and half of the remaining upkeep. The money is placed in the former owner's bank account. It is believed this money comes direct from the King (reasonable since deed money goes to direct to the King).
* Only people with the manage roles permission, or the mayor, may disband the settlement; citizens can stop a disband.
* Disbanding a village takes 24 hours. Disbanding a homestead takes 1 hour.
* When villages disband, all the gates are unlocked.
* Size 5 homesteads may not be disbanded in the first week after having been planted.

Citizens
A homestead can only have one citizen. A village can have many, with the exact number depending on the size. Making someone a citizen of a village requires the citizens' permission. If the village is a dictatorship, the mayor can also remove citizens. Citizens of a democracy cannot be removed, they must leave on their own volition using /revoke <village name>.

Each citizen is assigned a role determining which actions are allowed inside the settlement. Customizing, adding and removing roles requires the manage roles permission.

Voting
All settlements have a mayor. The initial mayor is the founder of the settlement. At any given time, the mayor is the one who holds the deed. Trading the deed make the new owner of the deed, the mayor. Villages can elect a new mayor by a successful vote. Success requires a majority: 51% of the votes if the village is a democracy, 81% if it is a dictatorship. Citizens may vote at any time, once per election. The election ends immediately whenever one candidate has received a majority of the votes, or when all votes have been cast. (Elections can continue, even though the incumbent mayor is already clearly going to win, until a majority have voted.) Each citizen is allowed only one vote per election, and can only vote for another citizen (not for themselves). A vote can't be changed after it is cast. If a new mayor is elected, the deed transfers into their possession (not tested). Once an election is completed, a new vote will initiate a new election.

Possibly the mayor can only be changed once per week, regardless of the number of elections in a week? - investigating.

Guards and upkeep
Settlements are automatically protected by deed guards. Guards can be light, medium, or heavy. Changing the guard level requires the hire guards permission. If the guard level is decreased, it cannot be increased again until a week has passed.

Guards will attack aggressive creatures that enter the settlement area, as well as any character with -30 or lower reputation. Negative reputation is automatically aquired when stealing and otherwise breaking the settlement rules. Citizens with the manage roles permission can also set reputations manually.

Guards demand payment. This payment is calculated as a percentage of the deed price. One month with light guards costs 10% of the deed price, medium guards cost 31%, and heavy guards 56%. Note: size 5 homesteads are an exception to this rule. See the table below for their upkeep cost.

Two months with medium guards on a size 10 village costs 2 * (1g * 31%) = 62 silver. Note: the payment happens continuously in small increments, not one big payment once a month.

Every settlement has an upkeep fund, which guards take their payment from. Anyone can donate money to the fund, even non-citizens. If the upkeep fund is depleted the settlement is disbanded automatically. A large upkeep fund reduces decay on buildings and fences in the settlement. If the fund has more than a month of upkeep there is no decay at all.

Upkeep draining
On the wild server, citizens of the enemy kingdom can drain your token once all your deed guards are dead. An enemy draining your token will cost you 15% of the monthly upkeep, of which the drainer receives 7.5%. The minimum drain is 75 copper.

Deed expansion
Expanding a deed gives half the money back for the old deed to the mayor, keeps the old upkeep, and adds a month's worth of light upkeep.

Allies and wars
Someone with the diplomat permission can make alliances or declare wars against other settlements.

Allies
* Allies can respawn on the deed if they die within 50 tiles of it.
* Allies have their own deed role.
* Allies have a green outline.
* Allies can loot your corpse when you're online.

Wars
Wars in Wurm need to be accepted by both sides to come into effect. When a war is in effect, the normal penalties for same-kingdom fighting do not apply. Enemy citizens will have a red outline.

Permissions
Each role can have a different set of permissions enabled. There are no known permissions that control butchering and burying.

; Build : Plan, color, and continue buildings and fences <br> Also allows lockpicking
; Forestry : Chopping down trees, picking sprouts, planting sprouts
; Destroy buildings : Destroying buildings, building plans, fences, and fence plans <br> Also allows lockpicking
; Farm : Sowing, farming and harvesting fields <br> Also allows milking and leading animals
; Hire guards : Changing guard level
; Citizens : Making non-citizens into citizens
; Manage roles : Change role permissions and role assignments, change reputations <br> Also allows disbanding the settlement
; Mine : Mining
; Terraform : Dig, pack, pave and flatten
; Expand : Expand the settlement with a larger deed
; Pass fences : Passing through all fences, even locked ones
; Lock fences : Locking fences
; Attack citizen : Attacking citizens
; Attack non-citizen : Attacking non-citizens
; Diplomat : Form alliances, declare war, make peace
; DELETE : This permission will delete the role if set

There are two additional permissions, which are not linked to roles

; Other settlements: Normally, settlements are not allowed within 100 tiles from a village, or within 50 tiles from a homestead. Setting this option allows homesteads within those limits, with a minimum distance of 20 tiles.

; Items and creatures : This allows anyone to pick up items and tame animals within the settlement (but not inside buildings).

Details
Rows with one citizen are homesteads. The other rows are villages.

Guard columns are upkeep per month (actually 28 days). Note: size 5 homestead upkeep deviates from the usual rates.
080222
* Archery skillgain was made 5 times faster when shooting creatures.
* Fighting skillgain was slowed a bit. You now gain skill for creatures at skill 70+, but very slowly.
* You may not perform special attacks on stances where the opponent is defending or opposing now.
* Most special moves were tweaked. Very few remain in the center attack position. They also drain more stamina on a miss and are harder to hit with.
* Most actions except attacking, stance changes, and taut will make you a bit more vulnerable to attacks. They vulnerability includes (and targets) bashing, special moves, focusing, shooting arrows and casting spells in close combat.
* Size five village deeds left the server even if they had been used. This was a bug so you may not bring those that left the server back home now.
* A bug with attacking open opponents was fixed.
* You should now gain more weapon skill.
* About half a minute needs to pass in a fight before you can focus or do special moves.
* Focusing changed so there is only 5 levels. They are attainable when you have certain high characteristics.
* You receive weapon and shield skill from fighting guards and spirits again, as well as when sparring. A bit better for HOTS but they have less creatures to hunt because of the mycelium.

080220
* Since focusing was not regarded as a decision but rather a free requirement it now takes one second longer and has a stamina cost.
* Metal armour movement penalty was diminished a little and they protect more. Cloth was made worse against slash.
* There is now a delay at the start of a fight before you can use special moves.
* Due to heavy rains, crop yield has diminished.
* Mind speed is now used when trying to perform extra attacks.
* Heavy guards were debeefed again, but overall guard power has increased a bit since last week. Three guards can hunt a target now instead, respawn rates are higher and only 6 people may attack heavies at one time.

080218
* Heavy guards were made tougher. They obviously were too little of a challenge. With heavy guards you should be able to feel safe. Guard respawn rate was also increased.

080215
* Weapon skillgain should increase. Note that you need to deal or receive damage in order to gain skill in weapons while fighting (in order to prevent exploits).

080212
* The bug where creatures were displaced was fixed.
* Taunting should work again.

080208
* A bug that made building towers confusing was fixed. Build towers just inside your kingdom border to expand it to where you want to settle down.

080207
* The kingdom change counters are now properly reset.
* You may no longer disband deeds for free. Half the upkeep and the deed is lost again.
* Special moves now have higher stamina cost.

080205
* Made it a bit easier to trade pets and cast the spell dominate.
* Failing a combat move now drains more stamina.

080204
* Fixed a bug where animals who go disloyal did not stop following their dominators. It should also be easier to stop pets from attacking.
* A bug with corpse models fixed

080203
* Creatures are now much harder to tame. Dominate and rebirth were also a bit affected. It was way too easy before since tamed powerful creatures should be rare and only for experienced tamers. You have to make a taming check (with a bonus) when you receive a pet as well.
* Archery damage now is more dependent on skill. Aiming at the legs is now hardest.
* Fight skill is more important now in PvP.
* Guides and Tormentors now offer refugees to join their kingdom.
* Due to climate changes, farming became harder. Crop difficulties changed dramatically. In any case, there was overproduce and high-skilled farmers received no skillgain so the change would be positive.
* New technology makes chain armour 20% better versus piercing (arrows).
* The Orb of Doom is rumoured to suddenly have grown in potency.
* Now when you purchase farwalker items, only half of the money remains with the trader. One tenth goes to the king, and the rest to the mystics who created the item.
* The soul depth requirements to become champion was lowered to 23. Soul depth gain may increase with religion changes later.
* Some limitations were added for rebirthing and zombies, since the Scale of Libila was too powerful. You can not raise a butchered body now for instance.
* A bug that made skills decay too fast was found.
* Increased weapon and fight style skillgain some more. Removed the skillgain from tower guards and spirits.

080119
* Taming is now harder for tougher animals
* A bug made it possible to gain fighting skill above 70 for non-players

080116
* Armor base protection was beefed a bit.
* Weapon and archery skillgain was increased a bit.
* Fixed a bug where dead spirit guards prevented draining of a deed.
* Hatchets are now created using blacksmithing skill. There were no strong objections to changing this.
* Zombies should not give as much skillgain. Dominated creatures should fight back at their dominator.

080111
* Special moves no longer can be performed through walls and fences.
* The wolves have trouble finding food, and the population has been noted to start shrinking.

080109
* The bug with logging off after a respawn was fixed.
* A bug that made cooking a bit too predictable was fixed.

080107
* Herbivores should stay alive longer now.
* A bug where you could purchase premium for deleted accounts was fixed.

080104
* Destroying towers was made harder.
* It is now harder to hit moving targets with archery.
* Dragon armour was made better compared to leather and studded leather. Those were too powerful compared to other armour and made a little weaker.

080102
* Happy new year! The bug that effected action speed and fighting should be gone now.
* First aid bandage timer was too long for light wounds
* A bug with damage dealt when destroying items was fixed.
<ins>Procedure(s) for mutes:</ins>
* You the player have said something from the list above.
* Moderator tells you that is unacceptable. (GMs can skip this step if they feel the need)
* You continue
* An official mute warning is given, this will appear in that scary orange color in your event window.
* You keep continuing
* Mute. Length of mute determined by moderator. (not to exceed 24 hours)
* Post a log of the incident where it can be reviewed by the GMs, both to determine proper action was taken, and that further action is not needed.

<ins>Things they may not do:</ins>
* Vendetta mutes. They don't like you, so they mute you.
* Mutes for things they find personally offensive.
* Casual muting (just for the hell of it)
* Mute a GM, or attempt to, or even think about it.
* Mute you because you PKd them and they are angry.
* Mute you because of something you said in local.
* Mute you permanently, GMs alone reserve the right to mute for more than 24 hours, I'd ask them to refer any cases where they feel an extended mute is needed to a GM.
* Mute you in a manner inconsistant with the procedure posted above.
* Mute without warning
* Abuse their position, or pose as a GM.
Whosville was a size 10 village located on Whosville Island, just west-north-west of Newtown. Popular attractions included the Whosville Hotel and the Whosville Market. The Whosville Pyramid was one of the wonders of Wurm and justified a visit by itself.

Description
Special moves are gained when you have enough skill in a specific weapon. You can only perform special moves with your primary weapon (a weapon equipped in your right hand), and in certain stances.
There are about 6 different moves in each class of weapons, in each kingdom. Special moves cost more stamina to use than regular attacks, but instead inflict more damage, multiple wounds or add some kind of effect. If you fail to perform the move it will cost you 1/10 of the original stamina cost. The chance to hit remains the same as you usually have.

These classes are:
* Swords
* Axes
* Mauls

Note that some tools also have special moves, but from one of these classes mentioned above.

Different kingdoms learn different moves, so no one of the opposing kingdom can learn your special moves. Kingdoms generally have these typical properties, but it may vary from move to move;

Jenn-Kellon:
* Average time to perform the move.
* Average damage wounds.
* Creates multiple wounds.

Horde of the Summoned:
* Slow time to perform the move.
* High damage wounds.
* Often drains stamina of the opponent.

Mol-Rehan:
* Fast time to perform the move.
* Lower damage wounds.
* Low stamina cost.
* Often affects the opponent's combat rating negative.
Beta History
Started playing on Beta Map 7 with a friend. Made a small shack by Newtown, and spent my days scrounging for food, and getting eaten by wolves. Climbing was introduced, and the map was reset. I settled by a small lake and a rock valley, but soon found others settling there with me. I joined with them, as they were creating the village of Darkwood. It was a undeeded village of layed back people. We built up the town and a rather poor set of walls around the large area we were situated in. I built up a small house and a temple to Magranon, even though Magranon gave me no useful spells or bonuses. I started to wander the map, meeting people and learned how to kill the pesky wolves that had eaten me so often as a noob. After a raid where everyones house was broken except mine, I became one of the only active ones. Someone got ahold of Rolf's password soon after that, which ushered in the final Beta map. I decided to go out on my own that next map, but could not find any iron in which to settle next to anywhere I wandered. Growing tired of not finding anything, I took a pilgrimage to the Blacklight (multiple times >.<) and converted to the Great goddess of Libila. I started a small Homestead by some Iron on a small cliff in the forest near the BL. It was not until after I had settled down that I realized that my new home was on the outskirts of troll territory. The boredom of nothing but troll's to keep company caused me to lose interest in the game soon after.
* Moderator tells you that is unacceptable. (GMs can skip this step if they feel the need)
* You continue
* An official mute warning is given, this will appear in that scary orange color in your event window.
* You keep continuing
* Mute without warning
* Abuse their position, or pose as a GM.
* Moderator tells you that is unacceptable. (GMs can skip this step if they feel the need)
* You continue
* An official mute warning is given, this will appear in that scary orange color in your event window.
* You keep continuing
* Mute without warning
* Abuse their position, or pose as a GM.
Never meant to imply it was the reason it disbanded, we all knew it wasn't. If anything, was trying to show it as more of a hollow victory seeing as it was essentially abandoned at that point.
--Siege7 18:15, 5 December 2007 (CST)

Depends on how one defines a victory. By WL standards it was a smashing success (literally). In any case, taking away over 16 silver in a single drain is decent. Doing it before the disband to deprieve the holder makes it even better --Klaa 18:59, 5 December 2007 (CST)

IS posted stuff about the Asgard raid on their page when they drained roughly 10 seconds before it disbanded. They still made out that it was an epic victory on their part.

The IS wiki page said nothing of epic victory. It pretty clear it was moved purposely. The simple 6 hour/1.5 minutes after it disbands suffices and doesn't imply much.
<ins>Procedure(s) for mutes:</ins>
* You the player have said something from the list above.
* Moderator tells you that is unacceptable. (GMs can skip this step if they feel the need)
* You continue
* An official mute warning is given, this will appear in that scary orange color in your event window.
* You keep continuing

* Mute without warning
* Abuse their position, or pose as a GM.

Note: mutes are now timed, so it's ok to log out if you've been muted.

A 70 favor cost for this spell, cast on the ground tiles.

It is a completely random process to locate each item.

It will tell you what direction, right, left, forward/front/ahead etc and a relative distance.<br>
Very far, far, pretty far, rather long distance, quite some distance, some distance, pretty close by, a stone throw away, practically standing on. (add more, and maybe some measure in km).<br>

It will also tell you if someone has found it, who is carrying it, and if they are in a village, what village they are in. If someone has left the artifact somewhere, it will tell you it is in the wild. If it is in a village, it will tell you what settlement it is in. If it is in a building, it will tell you the name of the building.<br>
<br>
eg. The gold Charm of Fo has not yet been revealed. The gold Charm of Fo is very far away ahead of you to the left.<br>
eg. The glass Orb of Doom is carried by Malvada. Malvada is in the settlement of Mist.<br>
Leather armour
Leather armour generally provides the least amount of base defense. However it also has one of the smallest penalties to attack speed and walking speed. Leather armour has defensive bonuses to bashing, while the equipment itself also gets extra damage from cutting. A full leather set weighs 3.2KGs and will slow you to 15.40KM/h on cobblestone when worn.

Studded leather armour
Studded leather armour generally provides a moderate amount of base defense with similar penalties as leather armour. Studded leather armour represents a good common ground between speed and reasonable defense though still less base defense then plate provides. A full studded leather set weighs 4.9KGs and will slow you to 14.77KM/h on cobblestone when worn.

Drake hide armour
Drake hide is the best leatherworking based armour existing in Wurm. Its protection rating is between chain and plate, yet more sensible to cutting and piercing than chain armor.
Drake hide armor has the lowest penalty to attack speed and walking speed (16.97km/h on cobble) and is very lightweight.

Main / Religion / Fo

Description
Fo is the deity of gardening and farming. His channeling item is the tree sprout.

Game lore
Fo's converting speech
Fo!

His creations surround you. His love is everywhere around you.

He is the father of all things. He created the world out of love and passion.

To embrace Fo is to embrace all living things around you.

All and everyone is equal, but different.

We are all dirt. We are all gems. We just come in different shapes and colors.

To create more and love all that is already created is to love Fo.

To passionately strike down at those who aim to destroy these creations is to love Fo.

To strive after beauty and harmony with nature is to love Fo.

Fo's Inscription (Altar of Three)
<em> I am Fo. I am the Silence and the Trees.

The sprout is my symbol.

Silent and lonely I lingered in darkness. Look around you. I created this of love and loneliness.

You are all like, but different. You are all dirt. You are all gems. You just come in different shapes and colors.

Do my bidding. Let all things grow into the splendor they may possess. Strive after beauty and harmony with nature. Let your soul become a lustrous gem.

With the same passion by which I once created all this, strike down at those who aim to destroy these creations.

Love me. Let me love you.</em>
