Decay

KiwiBird: /* Description */ Added a better Description for a quick overall recap of what Decay is.

Main / PAGENAME

Description
Decay is the erosion of objects over time. The decay rate depends on the item type and where the item is stored. Logs, rock shards or dirt for example will completely decay within days while other items may even last months and years. Items made from cedar trees decay slower. However containers made from cedar do NOT protect their content better.

Both Decay and Damage are combined and displayed in the DMG column. Damage is done to items from being used or failing an improvement attempt.

There are various ways to reduce decay.

Item decay modifiers
Kingdom
* Kingdoms reduce wall decay by 2x.
* Non-kingdom zones have no reduced decay.

Deeds
* Deeds decrease decay on walls of any kind by 10x, if the upkeep is higher than 7 days.
* Deeds stop the decay on walls of any kind if the upkeep is higher than 30 days.
* Deeds also stop decay on Lamps, Flags, and Banners

Houses
* Houses reduce item decay by 2x? Possibly 3x?. Some evidence that wood is 2x, and stone is 3x ... more testing needed.

Containers
* Containers will reduce decay by 2x.
* Containers in houses might get both bonus. (Testing required)

Other
* Items made out of cedar wood decay slower (they have reduced decay tick frequency).
* Items with normal QL based decay that are made out of Oak or Steel will suffer 20% reduced damage per decay tick.
* Raw materials (clay, dirt, logs, rocks, meat etc) decay faster than finished materials (weapons, tools, etc.)
* There is a 2-day period of no decay after a wall is finished.
* Items do not decay in inventories or on merchants (note that merchants can be threatened on Elevation), with the exception of food items, and lanterns.
* Houses that are abandoned get greatly increased decay. A house is considered abandoned when the writ owner does not log in to the same server for more than 1.5 months (real life). The decay rate for abandoned houses is currently unknown.
* For non-abandoned houses that are off deed the decay rate is (perish-ability/QL) total damage per decay tick.
* A stone houses(walls/windows/doors) perish-ability is 3, making its average decay per tick (3/wall QL).
* A wooden houses(walls/windows/doors) perish-ability is 10, making its average decay per tick (10/wall QL).
* Perimeter is treated the same with wilderness, thus do not reduce decay.

Myths
* Containers made out of cedar do not reduce the decay of its contents any more than a non-cedar container would.
* Stacking a container inside another container does NOT improve the bonus
* Containers in the inventory do not modify the decay rate of their contents at all.
* Bless has no affect on decay. Its only use is to activate metal altars.

Notes
* An item in a container, in a house, in kingdom territory probably multiplies the bonus, but this needs verifying.
* It is possible for items to "miss" their decay ticks for some period of time, and then experience "catch up" decay that can result in the destruction of very low ql items.

Wound Severity Information
Wounds take 1 damage per tick for every 3 damage already accumulated. the following is a breakdown of the wound severities:

;Very light What's This?: 0-5% damage. These wounds are less than 5 damage, and are healed within one tick. These wounds heal by themselves.

;Light What's This?: 5-15% damage. These wounds take 1 to 4 damage per tick, and will within one tick either heal or become Very Light. These wounds require a potency 1 - 5 Healing Cover to heal in one Tick.

;Medium What's This?: 15-30% damage. These wounds take 5 to 10 damage every tick. They may be stable or may become Bad if not treated. These wounds require a potency 1 Healing cover or Bandage to begin healing, and a potency 5 or greater Healing cover to heal in one tick.

;Bad What's This?: 30-45% damage. These Wounds take 10 to 15 damage every tick. They will never heal themselves, and will become Severe if not treated. These require a healing cover between 6 and 12 potency to begin healing, depending on their damage.

;Severe What's This?: 45% and up. These wounds take 15 or more damage every tick. They will kill the character if not treated. These wounds require a strong healing cover to even stabilize. These wounds require a healing cover greater than 12 potency to begin healing at the lowest levels. Supreme healing covers 20+ potency recommended.

KiwiBird: Changed Heading Two (Traits) to have Heading Three (Inbreeding). Then inserted quote from Rolf linked to forums.

Main / Skills / Nature / PAGENAME

Description
Animal husbandry allows for the production (breeding) of new creatures, sometimes with increased quality, without the need to wait for new spawns.

Characteristics gained
Soul / Soul depth

Method
*Both of the animals you wish to breed must be not hungry. One must be a male and the other one a female. Lead one of them with a rope (note that some animals must be tamed to be led) and move it close to the other one. Right-click on the animal you are not leading and select the "Breed" option.
*Grooming also gives animal husbandry skill gains. Activate a grooming brush and select groom while right-clicking on a groomable creature. You can groom animals once per hour.

Notes
* Animals must be of the same species.
* If breeding fails, you will receive a message that the male "shys away and interrupts the action".
* If breeding fails or is successful and you attempt to breed again, the male animal will show that he's "not in the mood" until 45 real life minutes pass.
* Females will not breed while they are pregnant. Once the female gives birth, the animal can breed again.
* Animals do not have to be "fat" to breed, only "no longer interested in food" (when trying to feed them). Grass eaters will typically be in this state after a minute or 2 on grass or crops.
* Age is not a factor in breeding (calves or foals will not breed though).
* Breeding increases a player's soul depth.
* Pregnancy times varies from 5-11 wurm weeks, regardless of species.
* Animals can have a miscarriage.
* If too hungry or low on fat animals can die when giving birth.
* Breeding animals with characteristics such as Champion will provide a chance that the offspring will also have that characteristic. This chance is dramatically increased when breeding two characteristics of the same type together. (Two Champions for example.)
** The same applies to Traits as well.
* Longer blood lines will support more traits. (For example: A 4th generation dog can have up to 6 or so traits where a 1st generation dog (the first offspring from wild dogs) usually only have 0-3 traits.)
* The name is determined at birth, the traits are determined at breeding (noticed on a server revert on 2011-03-01)

Traits
Bred animals have a chance of having traits.(Enhancement/Deformity). Animals can have multiple traits. Examining an animal will show traits, if one has the required skill level:

* 20 skill: "It will fight fiercely." (High fighting skill?)
* 21 skill: "It has fleeter movement than normal." (Minor speed boost)
* 22 skill: "It is a tough bugger." (Withstands more damage)
* 23 skill: "It has a strong body." (Improved body strength?)
* 24 skill: "It has lightning movement." (Randomly increases speed for a short duration)
* 25 skill: "It can carry more than average." (Less penalty to speed due to high load)
* 26 skill: "It has very strong leg muscles." (Less penalty to speed due to slope?)
* 27 skill: "It has keen senses." (Increased agro range or possibly harder to tame?)
* 28 skill: "It has malformed hindlegs." (Minor speed penalty)
* 29 skill: "The legs are of different length." (Major speed penalty)
* 30 skill: "It seems overly aggressive." (Goes into frenzy when attacked)
* 31 skill: "It looks very unmotivated." (Seldom uses speed boosts?)
* 32 skill: "It is unusually strong willed." (Randomly refuses to follow)
* 33 skill: "It has some illness." (Usually unridable. Penalty to body strength)
* 34 skill: "It looks constantly hungry." (Slows after traveling long distances. Will eat twice as much as a normal horse?)
* 39 skill: "It looks feeble and unhealthy." (Prone to disease)
* 40 skill: "It looks unusually strong and healthy." (Has a higher resistance to disease)
(All "?" are unconfirmed.)

Wether a newborn has a specific trait is determined by chance depending on the parents traits:
* Both parents have the trait: ~60%
* One parent has the trait: ~40%
* Neither parent has the trait: ~12%
(Those numbers were determined by Ago from the stats of about 200 horses)
Note: The 12% chance for a trait to appear even if neither parent had it adds up to about 60% chance that two completly healthy horses have offspring with at least one of the 7 bad traits.

Inbreeding
The current understand of inbreeding; defined below, currently has the following understanding:
Inbreeding between siblings or with a parent does not seem to have any effect on traits. The number of odd breeding results was not much different from regular breeding.

Rolf as of the game update on Friday, 27 May 2011, has made changes to Breeding and commented on inbreeding with a forum post:
Allright added those much needed modifications.

ALSO

beware of inbreeding. It adds to negative traits as well but silently and doesn't count against the pool.
Inbreeding is mating with your father/mother or when you have the same mother or father. Basically if you only can find two horses you'll be ok in three generations.
But it my be better to mate with your neighbours horses. ~ Rolf (via the forums)
(edited by --KiwiBird 00:22, 28 May 2011 (UTC) for format purposes)

Caring
To prevent venerable animals from dying of old age you can care for them. To start caring stand next to the animal, right click the animal and select Care for. If you start caring for that animal you'll get the message:
You now care specially for Aged fat Tearbabe, to ensure longevity. You may care for 1 more creatures.

The amount of animals you can care for is limited by the animal husbandry skill of the player. If you can't care for more animals you'll get the message
You may not care for any more creatures right now. You are already caring for 1 creatures.

* A player with 5 skill can care for one animal
* A player with 10 skill can care for two animals
* A player with 43 skill can care for up to 5 animals

Likely: You can care for 1 animal and 1 extra animal for every 10 skill in animal husbandry.

To stop caring for all cared animals type the command /stopcaring in the chat window. You'll get the message
You no longer care for the one creature you used to.

To stop caring for a specific animal, you will need to right click the animal and 'care for' again.

I do not know everything about digging and have only recently tried to understand the mechanics.
Introduction
Digging is the process of digging up or dropping down dirt, to change the dirt levels to the required levels chosen by the player. Key levels used by players are Flat and slopes of 20. Flat is obvious, it allows construction of buildings such as wooden houses and all types of fences. While the slope of 20 is what will allow players to ascend or descend the area without damages resulting from movement.

To remove dirt (and ultimately lower the tile) you require a shovel, both the starting shovel and player made shovels work well, shovels made by players are better because you can improve the QL (quality) and place enchantments on them from a priest.

To add dirt (and raising the tile) you require lose dirt to be dropped on the tile in question. Dirt is obtained from digging other tiles.

Our digging zone
I like using images, here is our image of the area we are going to dig. The photo is taken with the graphic details on high, because it was dark when the images where taken I have also touched up the images as well.

// 000s \\

The image above displays what we will be working on, our goal is to get the two tiles in the upper sections “Flat” with the lower two tiles. We will need to dig in three locations visible on the image, and two locations not fully visible.

The first dig
We will dig down between 14 and Flat on the north-east side of the image. This will then create a north-south Flat relationship.

// 001 \\

The second dig
Then dig in the spot off image indicated in the image below.

// 002 \\

The third and final dig
Then we dig fifteen more times in the north point, and will have our 2x2 tile flat land.
