Of course not, that's why we have a permission system. It manages who may access or use items, perform actions or simply regulate admittance.

Permissions are the fundamental key to secure your belongings no matter if you're playing alone or in a group.

You can find the menu to manage permissions by right-clicking your body in the character window, the inventory header or by right-clicking the item. The different options in the manage sub-menu lead to their respective lists.

Brief overview of the basic permissions
This brief look into the permissions system covers the basic points most new players are interested in.

Animals
Animals must be branded by a deed to enable animal management. (PvE Servers only)

* Who can lead or ride the animal.
* Set the nickname of the animal.

Buildings
* Who may enter the building through locked doors.
* Who may take items within the building.

Note: Permissions set for a building override settlement permissions.

Doors
A door needs to be locked by attaching a door lock in order to manage it.

* Who may pass through this door.

Carts and Wagons
A vehicle needs to be locked by attaching a small padlock or large padlock in order to manage it.

* Who may command the vehicle.
* Who may be a passenger on the vehicle.
* Who may take items within the vehicle.
* Rename the vehicle.

Gates
A gate needs to be locked with a gate lock in order to manage it. Newly created carts and wagons have premade locks attached to them.

* Who may pass this gate.
* Who may lock or unlock this gate.

Mine Doors
* Who may pass the mine door.

Settlement
Roles can be defined for citizens, individual players, alliance members and "everyone". The roles written in blue text can only be set for citizens.

* Who may perform which action on deed.

* Rename the ship.

Note: The permission to command the ship is needed to cross server borders.

Containers
A container needs to be locked by attaching a small padlock or a large padlock in order to manage it. To manage permissions right click the container.

* Who may access the container.

Note: Permissions set for a container override settlement and building permissions.

Method
To clad a mine wall, one must first reinforce it with a support beam. After this is done, the supported rock must be prepared with 10 * mortar and 10 * bricks. Only then, will the wall be capable of being clad. Choose your clad type and apply it with the corresponding applicator. Trowels are used for any masonry type, and a hammer will apply planks.

Removing clad
Clad must be removed with the use of a crowbar. After clad removal, the tile will remain reinforced and unprepared as it was prior to its cladding.

Description
Archaeology is a skill used in retrieving artifacts. It has one subskill of Restoration. These skills are used for locating, identifying and combining of fragments of different items from resources to weapons and more.

The Archaeology skill helps determine what item you get when investigating tiles. It will also determine what and how much information you get on settlements that used to exist on or near the location investigated.

To investigate a tile, activate a trowel, right-click a tile and click Investigate. This will search the tile for fragments.
*At 20+ Archaeology skill, a shovel may be used instead of a trowel, increasing the difficulty of the action.
*At 20+ Archaeology skill, some fragments are instantly identified upon discovery with no further restoration work needed.

The type of fragment you retrieve is determined based on:
# How many settlements have been on that tile in the past
# How long the settlement(s) stood there
# How long it has been since the settlement disbanded
# Your Archaeology skill level
Each of these increase the difficulty of the action, but also increase the chances of finding uncommon item fragments, with the higher difficulties providing the most unique items.

When finding a fragment, you may get a message in the event tab stating information on past settlement locations. The higher your skill level in Archaeology, the more information you may receive.

*At 30+ Archaeology you have a chance to see the name of one of the settlements at that location:
You can see multiple markers of abandoned settlements here. Based on your knowledge of the area and small hints you can find, one of the settlements must have been called Sunnyvale.

*At 40+ Archaeology you have a chance to see the name of the last mayor:
You can see signs of a single abandoned settlement here. Based on your knowledge of the area and small hints you can find, the settlement must have been called Splash Point. You find a scrap of washed out parchment signed by the last mayor, Badgirl.

*At 50+ Archaeology you have a chance to see the name of the settlement's founder:
You can see multiple markers of abandoned settlements here. Based on your knowledge of the area and small hints you can find, one of the settlements must have been called Mordor. You recall this settlement, and remember the name of the founder as Gromclad.

*At 70+ Archaeology you have a chance to see names of deeds in the area some tiles away:
You spot some markers of an old settlement in the area. It looks like it may be close to the northeast from here. You find a small scrap of something that has the deed name on it... 'Kittenforest Paradise'.

Restoration
The Restoration subskill is used to identify and combine fragments.

Rare partial items maintain rarity when combined with like parts.

Identify
Identifying a fragment will tell you what it is a fragment of as well as how many more pieces are needed to assemble it into the full item. For example, an identified fragment may say: ore fragment [1/3], iron - this tells you it is a piece of iron ore, and you need 2 more fragments to combine to it.

To identify a fragment, you will need a metal brush and/or a stone chisel. Activate the tool, right click the unidentified fragment and select "Identify".

Examining a fragment will tell you if you need a brush or a chisel to clear away dirt and rock from it - however, you may use either tool. The difficulty of the action will increase by using the opposite tool than that which is suggested.

The weight of the fragment will decrease with each successful identify action, as dirt and rock is cleared away, until it reaches the weight of the actual fragment. The fragment weight is the weight of the completed item divided by the number of pieces needed. For example, a bronze lump weighs 0.1 kg - an identified fragment requiring 3 total fragments will weigh 0.033 kg.

Notes
*The key binds INVESTIGATE and IDENTIFY can be bound through console or settings.
*Can use either stone chisel or metal brush to identify. The difficulty of the action will increase by using the opposite tool than that which is suggested.

Titles
* Investigator at 50 skill
* Archaeologist at 70 skill
* Curator at 90 skill
* ??? at 100 skill

Main / Highway / PAGENAME

Description
A highway is an at least 2 tile-wide paved road that leads between two or more deeds. Single paved roads that are paved on the edge with gravel also count as a highway.

Official protected highways use a marker per tile corner which will protect all 4 tiles around it. Most of these markers are called Catseyes, with a second type called a Waystone, which is used primarily at junctions, e.g. where roads meet or as a terminus (on deed). Official highways are used by Wagoners to transport goods, help players find deeds by checking for directions at a waystone and the basic feature of faster travel of course.

Creating an official protected highway
A road can be turned into a official highway if it is at least two tiles wide and connects a minimum of two deeds. The start of a highway is marked by a waystone on a deed. A second waystone on the second deed marks the end, or destination, of the highway. The highway is complete once both waystones are linked by catseyes. The catseyes will start to glow green if anything worked.

Since highways are more than simple point-to-point roads in most cases it is possible to use waystones at junctions to link more than two deeds. Waystones can be placed while building the initial highway or replace a catseye on a finished highway.

Building or adding to already existing highways can be tricky sometimes. This Google document helps with troubleshooting and gives in-depth information on the mechanics of highways.

Additions and maintenance
* Highways can be illuminated by blessed lamps without the need of refueling. While they will shine without further work, they still need to be repaired from time to time.
* Connected deeds can hire a wagoner to deliver bulk items to other connected deeds.
* Bridges can be included in highways but waystones may not be placed on them.
* Cave highways can be included if paved with reinforced floor.

Changes and removal
Official protected highways may be changed or removed. Check this Google document for legitimate ways to to so. Leaving a formerly intact highway without fixing it again may induce decay on some parts and might entail moderation actions.
cleanup

Description
A clear scentless liquid.

Water is found on Wurm's coasts, lakes, and wherever the terrain is low enough. Other than a safe refuge from a variety of non-swimming animals and monsters, water has a number of practical uses and can be collected in containers.

Water can also be found at certain fixed locations by using a pendulum to perform divination. Water sources found in this manner must be accessed by placing a fountain or well on the spot.

Usage
To collect water, activate a portable container capable of holding liquid, such as a pottery flask, pottery jar, water skin, bucket, small barrel, etc, right-click a water tile, and select "Fill". The action is executed on the tile itself, so if it's too far away an event window message will show that "You are too far away".

Once collected, water is used to:

* Create food through cooking it together with other ingredients.
* Bake flour into dough.
* Drink to regain stamina regeneration (can also be done directly on the tile)
** Drinking will refill the water bar at the rate of 4.5% for every 0.1 of water volume
* Mix with other items using alchemy to make dye, lye, etc.
* Temper metal smithing items
* Wash cloth items
* Water pottery items before hardening in a fire
* Can be used to treat acid wounds similar to healing covers which also turns it into a burn wound

*Note: Have in mind that "Rare Water" is a possible item. Its special features are still unknown.

Water level
Water at sea level is universally set throughout the whole of Wurm and is always the same. This also applies when mining tunnels. If mined deep enough sea level will be reached and create a submerged cave floor tile, which can also be used to collect water from, just like any other submerged tile.

Water depth puts some restrictions on various actions:
* Paving: At water level (+/- 0)
* Passable by large carts: Seven below water level (-7)
* Tunneling: North-western corner at most 12 dirts below water level (-12)
* Digging: Up to seven dirts below water level (-7)
* Surface mining: Up to 25 dirts below water level (-25)
* Floor mining: Up to twenty five dirts below water level (-25)
* Dredging: Up to 180 dirt, depending on your digging skill (-180)

Travelling on the waterways
It is possible to swim reasonable distances across water but if the player's stamina falls too low while in the water it will start to drown and eventually die if the player does not make it back to land (or a boat). This makes crossing large bodies of water very difficult without a boat. While unladen and unarmoured, a player can swim at about 8km/h.

A player is generally quite safe from animals while in the water, as most cannot swim; however, it should be noted, while in the water a player suffers a large combat rating (fighting) penalty, so it's not recommended fighting anything while swimming.

A cart can't be dragged into water but a raft or a boat will work.

Description
A natural fence made from planting sprouts. All but the lowest hedge sizes block movement.

It appears that different hedges will grow to different possible heights.

Hedge Materials
Types of hedge are: Camellia, Cedar, Lavender, Maple, Oleander, Rose, Thorn.

Types that are not available are: Apple, Birch, Blueberry, Cherry, Grape, Hazelnut, Lemon, Linden, Oak, Olive, Orange, Pine, Raspberry, Willow.

Creating
A total of 5 sprouts of the same type are needed to plant a hedge. Unlike actual fences, there is no skill requirement based on the tile border's slope.

Hedges can't be planted on crop tile borders or packed dirt tile borders.

You need to have at least 5 sprouts of the same kind in your inventory.

Note that failure is possible - Sadly, the sprout does not survive despite your best efforts. You lose one sprout if you fail.

Destroying
* Can be cut down like a tree with Right-click - Cut down.
* Can also be destroyed just as any other fence using a bashing tool. Catapults can also work on them.
** Body strength of 21 is required.
** Pruning hedge to medium or low length before bashing increase the damage tremendously.

Growing
Wild growth advances a hedge 1 growth-stage (makes low medium, and medium high, if the hedge type grows that tall).

Prune with a sickle (or other bladed tools) to make them 1 growth shorter.
(On deed the manage option 'can cut old trees' must be enabled).

A sickle can also be used to destroy a low hedge.

Height
All hedges start at low height, which does not impede movement. They will then grow to medium height upon which they become impassable and eventually reach peak height (tall as a house wall). The two exceptions to this are:

* Lavender hedges stay at the lowest height and therefore remain passable.
* Camellia hedges stop growing upon reaching medium height, which permits seeing over the hedge while blocking movement.

Hedges can be temporarily trimmed shorter by pruning but will regrow again.

Trivia
As a priest can't attach parts, this is the only fence type they can build.
These cannot be built on the border of an Arched Wall.
Hedges can be dyed, takes 1.0kg of dye per hedge.
