Main / Skills / Cooking

Description
Cooking is the skill used to make food that has a higher nutritional value than raw foods, which includes butchering, hot food cooking, baking, making beverages and oil, and dairy food making.

Cooking creates recipes for a player’s personal recipe book, which is populated as a player discovers different combinations and food types for each recipe.

Cookbook
A cookbook is a player’s personal recipe storage containing all recipes known by the individual player. To open the cookbook, click the cooking button on the right side of the quickbar. You can also bind it to a key with “TOGGLE_COOKBOOK”.

*Recipes that are known to all players are green in the cookbook. As a player discovers new recipes, they are added to that player’s cookbook. Any variations to the recipe, such as whether the recipe can use any meat to be created, will be updated in the cookbook when discovered.

inline

*Recipes in white represent those that were learned by creation.
*Recipes in red represent an unknown recipe, for which the product was used in a known recipe (for example, if the player was given that ingredient).
*Recipes that a player has as a favorite are shown in gold.
**You can favorite a recipe by ‘’right-clicking’’ on the recipe name and selecting ‘’mark as favorite’’. You can also add personal notes to the recipes.

Recipes
Recipes are acquired by creating different cooking products, adding a player-written recipe to the cookbook, or finding a recipe in a creature’s corpse. Recipes are stored in a player’s personal cookbook, which is populated as a player discovers different combinations and food types for each recipe.
Recipes may have optional ingredients as well as required ingredients. The optional ingredients can increase the weight, difficulty, and/or nutritional value that the product has. Each optional ingredient will usually increase the difficulty by 5.

Lootable Recipes
Trolls and goblins have their own special foods, and therefore give a chance to find a recipe on the corpse. Dealing the killing blow on some rift humanoids has a small chance of giving a special recipe directly to the player's inventory. Each creature type has a basic, rare, supreme, and fantastic recipe available. These recipes cannot be created without it existing in the player’s cookbook.

Nameable Recipes
Some recipes exist that, when discovered, will be named with the first creator’s name in the title. A player can only have one recipe named after them. The recipe name will then be known as “(Player)’s (recipe name)”.

Recipe Sharing
Recipes can be transcribed from a player’s recipe book, allowing it to be traded. To do so, ‘’right-click’’ on the recipe, then ‘’options’’ > ‘’mark recipe to be written’’, fill a reed pen with ink or dye, then ‘’right-click’’ on a paper or papyrus and select ‘’write recipe X’’. Note that if your recipe was made with potato but can be made with any vegetable, it will be written as potato.
Basic recipes (marked in green) and rare or better recipes cannot be written down.
To add a received recipe to the cookbook, ‘’right-click’’ on the recipe and select ‘’read recipe’’, then ‘’Add to cookbook’’.

Note: Recipes must be in your inventory to be added to your cookbook. Adding from a container (like a backpack) will not work.

Lore
Lore is a function activated by ‘’right-clicking’’ on the container holding ingredients and selecting ‘’lore’’, giving a player hints about which ingredients can be used. The hints are based on which ingredients are in the container, and will give hints toward creating a random recipe that can be made from the ingredients within. This random recipe will always be pointed toward with those same ingredients for the particular player; however, the same ingredients used by a different player may hint toward a different recipe, if available.

Sample messages:

inline - part of a recipe

inline - complete recipe

inline - no known recipe for that combination

- valid known recipe

- Valid ingredients incorrect cooker

Benefits
Nutrition & CCFP
Every edible item has different nutritional values, as well as values for calories, carbs, fats, and proteins (CCFP). When items are combined to create a resulting item, the CCFP values are combined to give the result its own CCFP values.
*Calories – High bar reduces stamina drain
*Carbs – High bar reduces water usage
*Fats – High bar increases favour regeneration, and reduces drain on sleep bonus.
*Proteins – High bar reduces food usage
Note that when the player’s food bar is full, no more food can be eaten (with the exception of endurance sandwiches and sleep powder). The same goes for beverages when the thirst bar is full.
The basic unitary consumption for a player per Wurm day are:
*2000 calories
*300 carbs
*80 fats
*50 proteins

Generally speaking, in order to fill the CCFP bars, you need to create foods that contain a variety of ingredients that with all the nutrients a human needs to remain healthy. For example, a meal that has the following;
* Meat/fish for protein
* A potato for carbohydrates
* Cheese for fats
* Several vegetables like corn and pumpkin for vitamins and fibre
* Several herbs/spices like mint and parsley for taste
The larger it is and the more varied the ingredients used to create it, the better.

Note that there is no penalty for not filling one or all elements of CCFP.

You can control the display of the CCFP elements by right-clicking your health bar and selecting Toggle hover expand.

Temporary Affinities
Some prepared foods consumption can result in a temporary affinity, giving the player a 10% bonus skill gain to a specific skill for a short period of time. Different players get different affinities from the same meals, and the food item must be prepared identically to get the same affinity again.
The amount of time the affinity will be effective is determined by the amount of the food that is consumed.

Rarity
Recipe-based foods have the ability to be created rare or better. Rare foods have higher CCFP values and give longer temporary affinities.
*Rare – 10% improvement
*Supreme – 40% improvement
*Fantastic – 90% improvement
Rare and better recipes also exist, and can be found on creature corpses. These recipes cannot be created without existing in the player’s cookbook, and cannot be written down to be given to another player.

Wrapping Items
*Fish and meat can be wrapped to allow them to be cooked directly in a cooker without a container.
*Most other non-liquid foods can be wrapped with waxed paper to reduce decay.
*Cheese can be wrapped with a wool or cotton cloth square to reduce decay.
*Wrapped foods decay about 5 times slower than unwrapped.

Decay Prevention
There are several methods that reduce decay, and most of them can be stacked to increase the effect. Food should not be stored in your inventory because it will take damage after some time. Just carry a day or two worth of food and store the rest.
*Containers in a building on a deed should be the minimum level of storage.
*Larders need snowballs to work, but provide a significant boost over just storing in a container.
*Food storage bins Can be used to completely eliminate food decay, but only on raw materials.
*Lunchboxes lower the decay of food that is carried in your inventory.
*Salt can be added to most meals when they are cooked.
*Waxed paper can be used to wrap food.
*The quality of the food seems to have some effect on decay, but the quality of the container does not.
*A Rare lunchbox will lower decay further and the same probably applies to rare foods and larders.
*A Picnic basket offers more protection for carried food items than even a rare lunchbox.
*Some Runes lower the decay of a container's contents
*Magical chests are the only known method to completely eliminate the decay of a finished or cooked meal/food. It is worth considering their use to store a variety of meals with different affinities.
*Some created food items are still considered raw materials that can be stored in a food storage bin, such as cheese or meat fillets.

Beverages
NB: Alcohol may be found as part of treasure chests. These have different properties from craftable alcohol.

* Wine will age better inside a building than outside (ie: where other items would have minimized decay, wine ages better).

* Wine containers must be sealed for the wine to age.

* Oak barrels have a slight bonus over other wood types.

* Wine and other distilled spirits increase in quality when they take decay ticks, representing drinks aging. Example: Over 362 days, 14 oakwood wine barrels filled with mead, sealed, in a building, in a mine. The mead quality ranged from 70 to 93, and all gained exactly 5 quality in that time.

Note: For beverages that need to be fermented, you must be online and on the same server when fermentation completes to receive credit for any achievements and/or get the fermented recipe in your cookbook. The fermentation process will take approximately 5-7 RL days to complete.

Tools and Ingredients
Containers
* Baking stone
* Cake tin
* Cauldron
Drift
According to a post by Army on August 27, 2024 at https://forum.wurmonline.com/index.php?/topic/203438-patch-notes-27-aug-2024/&tab=comments#comment-2012894:

* Change: Drifting of unmanned boats has been removed, even if they are not moored with a mooring anchor. Drifting has rarely ever occurred in practice due to bugs, and rather than cause significant inconvenience for players by fixing that, we've made the decision to officially remove it. Mooring anchors will still prevent players from dragging or pushing boats without permission.

Perhaps we should eliminate references to drift on this and related Wiki pages?

* Quality of the weapon will greatly affect overall damage.
* Can be mailed with a volume rune.
* Does not fit into a weapons rack
* To fish with a spear, stand near a sufficiently deep water tile, activate the spear, right-click the water tile, and select "fish". This will bring up a long action timer in which random clicks will sometimes result in an event message that a fish is near and that the player missed it. Then, look around for the fish. ==Description==
"You see a patch of grass. The grass is wild and seems to like it here."

Notes
*Grass is one of the most common tile types in Wurm. You can find various berries and herbs by botanizing or foraging a grass tile.
*If flowers are present on a grass tile, you can harvest them with a sickle.
*Planting flowers on a dirt tile yields flowers and grass on success. Planting thatch also creates a grass tile. This can be useful for keeping pens grassy to feed animals like cows, bulls, horses and deer. Note that animals can quickly graze or stomp the tile into packed dirt.
*Planting grass also builds your gardening skill without wasting valuable sprouts.
*Planting a sprout also creates a tile that looks grassy, but animals cannot graze on tree tiles. Cutting the tree or bush down will turn the tile back to a grass tile.
*If you dig on a grass tile, you create a dirt tile. All the grass tiles surrounding the corner that was dug will also turn into dirt.
*You can pack grass tiles with a shovel to convert them to packed dirt, e.g. for faster movement or for preparing them to be cultivated into dirt or paved.
*Priests of Fo have less stamina drain when traveling on grass.
*To create grass tiles inside a building, you can plant thatch.
*Grass can spread to near by dirt tiles as fast as within 24 hours real life time. Grass can also spread from a tree tile to adjacent tiles.
*The following types of Resource nodes can spawn on Grass tiles: Wildflowers, Umbellifers, Nightshades, Mints, Roots and bulbs, Vines, Briar patch, Thicket, Wild grasses, Animal burrow, Mineral debris and Tropical foliage.

Cut grass
Like reed and kelp, grass tiles grow to different lengths, and can be cut when tall enough. You can find the height of grass by examining the tile. Grass can be cut with a sickle, scythe, carving knife, butchering knife or shovel (and possibly more). When gathering grass, it is capped at 20ql when using any tool aside from a sickle or a scythe.

Cutting grass will yield the following amounts of mixed grass:
*Medium - 1
*Tall - 2
*Wild - 3
The page makes this assertion: "A cart cannot be driven over tiles that have a total slope of 40 or more over any two adjacent edges."

In some cases a cart will fail to enter a tile that has a total slope of 40 on the adjacent edges of all corners. In particular, I had a tile with a slope of 23 on both N/S edges and 17 on both E/W edges. The cart would not enter. I dug one dirt from the NW corner (which was the highest) and the cart would then enter. I'm not sure what other conditions might fail to meet the current description (or even whether that set of slopes always fails), so not sure how to correct the page.
Description
The Path of Hate is one of the paths you can join by meditating.

Path of Hate tiles
Hate path tiles are only found on mycelium, and as such, they can only be found on Chaos, Epic and Defiance servers.

You should be able to create your own hate path tile by creating a flat 5x5 area of mycelium away from water. It should contain three or more infected thorn bushes.

As with all paths, meditating on the tile gives the message "This is indeed a special place" after meditation is complete, and shows that you have found a special tile that belongs to a path.

Description
The Path of Insanity is one of the paths you can join by meditating. Some followers have admitted to seeing strange hallucinations, or have been seen to interact with nothing there.
Followers may get the event message "You feel strange and out of time." off and on, regardless of meditation level and rank. It is unknown whether this is triggered by something or completely random.

Path of Insanity tiles
Insanity path tiles are found inside mines, on any tile more than 2 tiles away from any ore veins or cave exits. Note that reinforcements and rock salt do not count as "ore" and will not block Insanity tiles from appearing.

After completing a meditation on a path of insanity tile the usual message of "This is indeed a special place" will not appear. Due to this you may need to try moving to different tiles and repeatedly meditating until you get a path question in order to advance. Certain Path of Insanity-specific "trance" messages may also appear when beginning to meditate, making it clearer that the tile is special.

Bonus
Clean Wound
Gained at level 4

You get the option on wounds. This will clean the wound of any Rotting touch "You gleefully clean the wound."

If the wound is not dirty or infected it will not clean the wound.

Fill
Gained at level 7

You get the option on your body. This will fill your food bar to 99% and move your nutrition 98%. You can Fill once per day.

It seems that 'fill' works in a similar way to fasting. The message displayed is

* You relax and forget about your hunger.

Shield of the Gone
* <p> Can be used once every 12 hours. <br/> This cooldown is lowered by 1 hour for every level past 12.
* It only works if you have been part of the village for more than 24 hours.
* Only transports the player character; any mount, cart or boat is left behind.

You close your eyes and let your spirit fly home.

You see a wound with ominously red edges and some yellow pus at the crotch.

Final Breath has a 2 hour cooldown.
Path of Insanity Quirks
A large part of following The Path of Insanity is the player's character going crazy. This adds some fun roleplaying quirks that have no true effect on gameplay. Insane characters will occasionally see oddly named monsters that aren't really there. Also, randomly they may occasionally see the following message in their event window: You feel strange and out of time. This seemingly out of place message is actually the insane character performing involuntary, often disturbing emotes that other players see in their event window.

Hallucinations
Sometimes, insane characters see mobs that are invisible to everybody but themselves. These can be noted from a distance as they always have unusual names. They can't be interacted with, tamed, or killed.

They can be named any of the following names:
*Omen
*Pain
*Pus
*Ratatosk
*Rotten Blood
*Scorn
*Sickness
*Silent Death
*Terror
*Watcher

They can be any of the following creatures:
*Bear
*Black Dragon
*Crocodile
*Goblin
*Lava Fiend
*Tower Guard
*Troll
*White Dragon Hatchling

You feel strange and out of time
Nearby players may see the following emotes in their event window when an insane character receives the 'Out of Time' message:
*(Player) suddenly whimpers.
*(Player) suddenly coughs and looks nervously around.
*(Player) spits and froths disgustingly.
*(Player) stares at you with black eyes.
*(Player) drools a bit.
*(Player) shows (his/her) teeth and snarls at you.
*(Player) gives you a scared look.
*(Player) scratches (his/her) skin wildly for a few seconds.
*(Player) curses loudly.
*(Player) makes some erratic twitching moves.
*(Player) stares at his palm.
Description
The Path of Power is one of the paths you can join by meditating.

Path of Power tiles
Power path tiles are usually found on flat tiles at high elevations (i.e. on mountains (2000 dirts above the water table)). However, please note that a Path of Power tile can be on a non-flat tile as well.

You should be able to create your own Path of Power tile by flattening tiles when high above sea level, then testing them.

As with all paths, meditating on the tile gives the message "This is indeed a special place" after meditation is complete, and shows that you have found a special tile that belongs to a path.

Bonus
Trap Immunity
Gained at level 4

You get the option on your Body (in your inventory). This will make you immune to traps for 30 minutes.

Erupt/Freeze
Gained at level 7

You get the "Erupt" option on rock and cliff tiles. The tile is transformed into a lava tile. Can't be used on a tile too close (less than 2 tiles) to a Magranon altar. Timer: 40 seconds.

* Northwest corner of lava tile will rise by 4 slope after Erupt.

* Cave walls that are under the tile that is erupted will change into lava walls. This includes . These lava walls can be changed into regular cave walls with the Freeze ability.

* The resulting lava tile above-ground and lava wall below-ground are selectively separate from each other. Using Freeze above-ground will freeze both the surface tile and lava wall below-ground. However, using Freeze on the lava wall will not freeze the lava's surface tile.

* You may not use the "Erupt" ability outside of your own kingdom.

You get the "Freeze" option on lava tiles. The tile is transformed into a rock tile (even if it was an 'erupted' cliff tile before). Timer: 1 minute 40 seconds.

* Freezing a surface tile also freezes the cave tile below.

"Erupt" and "Freeze" are the same path power and share the same timer. Only one can be used once every 18 hours.

Only usable inside Magranon's domain, and in areas with no domain of any deity.

"Erupt" is possible on another player's settlement if the player performing the action belongs to that settlement or, if not, has permission to use meditation abilities from a group role. Note that individual roles do not appear to work for this: if the player is alliance, the "ally" role should give them the permission to use meditation abilities, or if not, a Village role should. "Freeze" is possible on another player's settlement only if the player performing the action belongs to that settlement or a settlement allied with it.

Elemental Immunity
Gained at level 9

You get the option on your Body (in your inventory). This will make you immune to elemental damage (fire, ice, acid and water ; natural or spells) for 30 minutes. This includes immunity to lava and drowning. It has a cooldown of 18 hours.

Stamina of the Vibrant Light
Gained at level 11

Adds a +30 to your Body stamina level, reducing your stamina usage for actions. For example, if you have 20 Body stamina and Stamina of the Vibrant Light, you effectively have 50 Body stamina. The maximum bonus is at 69 Body stamina, when a player would have 99 effective stamina.

Recall Home
Gained at level 12

You get the option on your Body (in your inventory). This will instantly teleport you back to the token at your deed. </p>
* <p> Can be used once every 12 hours. <br/> This cooldown is lowered by 1 hour for every level past 12.
* It only works if you have been part of the village for more than 24 hours.
* Only transports the player character; any mount, cart or boat is left behind.

inline

Final Breath
Gained at level 13

Your willpower now gives you the ability to deal a powerful short range blow to the enemies.

Final Breath deals medium infection wounds on the opponent.
You see a wound with ominously red edges and some yellow pus at the crotch.
Description
The Path of Knowledge is one of the paths you can join by meditating.

Path of Knowledge tiles
Knowledge path tiles are usually found beside water and sand. Generally they are quite close to the shore, but some have also been found in deep waters.

You should be able to create your own knowledge path tile by flattening a low area close to open water, creating some sand tiles and pave some tiles near by. Once planted, test each tile to see if it's "special" as the Knowledge Tile does not have to be in the center. If the area is disturbed , the special tile may vanish, and must be recreated, and may show up in a different spot than before.

As with all paths, meditating on the tile gives the message "This is indeed a special place" after meditation is complete, and shows that you have found a special tile that belongs to a path.

Bonus
Get Info (Level 1)
Gained at level 4

You get the option on creatures and players. You are only able to use this option once every 18 hours.

Using the ability on a creature gives information similar to this:
You decide to classify the Adolescent fat Haltchaser using numbers.
Stamina level 65535, damage level 0.
Hunger value 36001, fat level 125, nutrition level 31.620344, thirst level 0, dominated by X, loyalty level 28.508104.
Normal stamina regen true.
Kingdom is Freedom Isles, leader is none, hitched to none.
Rank=1000, Max Rank=1000
Not busy doing anything.
Adolescent fat Haltchaser targets none, and fights none.

If somebody uses this on you, you see the event message: XXX evaluates you.

Get Info (Level 2)
Gained at level 7

You get the option on tiles. It tells you the direction and the distance of all the nearby hostile creatures and if they are above ground or under it. You are only able to use this option once every 18 hours.

The Aged champion troll is behind you fairly close by. Above ground.

The distances and directions are the same as listed for the Vynora spell Reveal creatures.

Get Info (Level 3)
Gained at level 9

You gain this option as an extension to the Level 1 ability: "You feel the skills of creatures". Since this is an extension to the Level 1 ability the same cooldown applies as well.
Using the Level 1 ability gives some additional information:

Main / Meditating

Description
The Path of Love is one of the paths you can join by meditating.

Path of Love tiles
Love path tiles are usually found near water on flat or flattish grass with flowers around.

You can create your own love path tile by flattening a low area close to open water and planting flowers on all of the tiles. The rules for a tile to become a special tile are:

* There must be water closer than 20 tiles away. Usually the love tile will appear 5 or more tiles from water.
* There must be at least 4 tiles with flowers within a radius of 2 tiles around the special tile (forming a 5 x 5 area).
* The special tile must not be 10 dirts steeper than surrounding tiles.
* Grass (with or without flowers) must be predominant within a radius of 2 tiles around the special tile.

Once planted, test each tile to see if it's "special" as the Love Tile does not have to be in the center of the area. If flowers or grass tiles are ever removed, the special tile may vanish. It must then be recreated, and may show up in a different spot than before.

Be aware that sprouts spreading from trees and grazing animals can remove the flowers and therefore destroy the Path of Love special tile.

As with all paths, meditating on the tile gives the message "This is indeed a special place" after meditation is complete, and shows that you have found a special tile that belongs to a path. Sometimes, it is needed to meditate on the same tile several times to get the "special tile" message.

Bonus
Refresh
Gained at level 4

You get the option on other players at the fourth rank on the path of love. This will restore the players food, water and stamina 100% and give them 99% nutrition. This can be used once every 18 real world hours. Note: You need to be a premium character now to refresh other players. You can refresh yourself by double clicking the health bar to bring up the paper doll, selecting body in the bottom left corner and choosing 'Refresh'. The refresh ability does not work on animals.

Refreshing a player: You send (playername) a warm thought.

Receiving a refresh: (playername) emits a positive wave of energy in your direction!

Refreshing yourself: You send yourself a warm thought!

Enchant
Gained at level 7

You get the option on grass and trees tiles. The tile is transformed into an enchanted grass or enchanted tree tile. When you enchant the tile event says "You let your love change the area". It can be used once every 18 hours.

Love Effect
Gained at level 9

Love Effect turns all aggressive mobs (including uniques) in your local to 'friendly status' with green highlight, so you can walk past them without being attacked.
The ability does not work in PvP (tamed/dominated pets). If you are fighting an animal and use this ability while sticking around, you will auto-attack back, which makes it continue fighting. Backing off and no-targeting should fix it. Usable once every 18 hours.

The effect covers your local area (80 tiles in all directions) and it lasts for 3 minutes.

When activated: 'You feel the love stream towards you' (green text)<br>
When deactivating: 'The stream of love fades' (orange text)

Watch the event tab carefully for the fading effect message, it can happen that animals/monsters keep the green highlight even after the effect ran out.

Relogging or embarking a cart/horse from one tile away (forcing client to reload) fixes this.

Healing Hands
Gained at level 11.

Healing Hands is a passive ability that gives the player a 50% bonus to healing actions. This means that the healer will apply up to 50% extra healing when bandaging themselves or other players. They will also receive 50% more health from Life Transfer weapons.

Mouse-Over Description: "Improves the effectiveness of healing actions and natural regeneration by a factor of 1.5"

You close your eyes and let your spirit fly home.

Final Breath
Gained at level 13

Your willpower now gives you the ability to deal a powerful short range blow to the enemies.

Final Breath deals medium poison wounds on the opponent.

You sharpen your thoughts into a shining arrow of energy with which you assault Venerable troll.
You thought pulse Venerable troll extremely hard in the chest and harm it.
Venom enters Venerable troll as you thought pulse him.
You see an ominous dark aura around throbbing ache at the chest.

Final Breath has a 2 hour cooldown.
This rope is thinner and used for hoisting and lowering sails.

Cordage rope is the most difficult rope created by the rope tool. It is used in shipbuilding, for some traps, and also for sacrificing.

Creating
Cordage is created by using a rope tool on at least 0.65 kg of wemp fibre

Failure to create a cordage rope results in the loss of 0.05 kg of wemp fibre.

The maximum quality cordage rope a player can possibly create is capped by the quality of the wemp fibre they use in its creation along with ropemaking imbued.
Description
A small crate made from planks, primarily used to transport goods.

Notes
* Requires 10 carpentry to create.
* The plank's QL determines the success chance.
* The crate's wood type is dictated by the type of plank you attach last.
* Prevents decay of its contents similar to bulk storage bin and food storage bins.
* Items that fit in bulk or food storage bins also fit in crates.
* A small crate can hold up to 150 items, regardless of individual item volume and the crate itself, empty or otherwise, has a volume of 1,000. This creates the vision that the crate is bigger on the inside than it is on the outside as the volume of 150 dirt alone, for example, way exceeds that of the crate.
* May be 'Hauled Up' to upper floors of buildings, and 'Hauled Down', but to haul down you must be on the same floor opening as the crate, and not below it. To haul up, you must be on the floor opening above the crate.
* Hauling only works on floor openings with ladders and not with stairs or gaps in the floor.
* May be loaded while full or empty, but cannot be picked up to the inventory regardless.
**Loading requires 23 body strength.
* Small crates aren't efficient for transporting items with a volume of less than 6.66 since the 150 of these items would take up a lot less volume in a smaller container than that of the crate, for example seeds in satchels.
* 5% of each of the stored items are lost every 28 days. This loss does not apply to containers on a deed with more than 28 days of upkeep left.
* Can be stored in a crate rack.
* Ownership changes to the last character to unload the crate, so if you are given a crate you must load it (into, for example, a large cart) and unload it before you can rename it.
* Can be stored in vehicles and can also be stored in a crate rack by moving from a vehicle's cargo hold to the crate rack.
* Cannot be taken and held directly in player inventory.
* Prevents decay of its contents similar to bulk storage bin and food storage bins.
* Items that fit in bulk or food storage bins also fit in crates.
** Loading requires 23 body strength.
* Large crates aren't efficient for transporting items with a volume of less than 5.76 since the 300 of these items would take up a lot less volume in a smaller container than that of the crate, for example seeds in satchels.
* 5% of each of the stored items are lost every 28 days. This loss does not apply to containers on a deed with more than 28 days of upkeep left.
* Ownership changes to the last character to unload the crate, so if you are given a crate you must load it (into, for example, a large cart) and unload it before you can rename it.

Qevv: /* Quick reference */ By checking after each level, I established that sandstone is identified starting at prospecting level 30.

Main / Skills / Prospecting / PAGENAME

Description
Analyse is an action granted by the prospecting skill. When used on recently mined stone shard, or even ores, it allows you to determine if any ore veins are nearby the tile the shard was mined from, as well as their approximate distance and direction from that tile. The action is first unlocked at prospecting skill level 20, and requires a premium account to perform. To Analyse, right-click a stone shard or ore, and select "Analyse."

Event messages
inline - You are below prospecting skill level 20.

- The shard has already been analysed and cannot be analysed again.. Also appears if part of the shards have been used to make something or used in improving.

- Appears if you try to analyse a shard from a bulk storage bin.

How to use
When analysing a shard, several messages will appear in the event window over several seconds.

Distance
Depending on your prospecting skill, you will receive different amounts of information from the shard. Nearby ores will appear as traces every few lines. The strength of the traces shows the distance from the tile the shard originated from, to the tile with the ore vein. The level of your prospecting skill will determine the strength of the traces you can detect.

The six different strengths:
*"Traces" - Shows for ore that is 1 tile away. Unlocked with Analyse at prospecting level 20.
*"Slight traces" - Shows for ore that is 2 tiles away. Unlocked with Analyse at prospecting level 20.
*"Faint traces" - Shows for ore that is 3 tiles away. Unlocked at prospecting level 35.
*"Minuscule traces" - Shows for ore that is 4 tiles away. Unlocked at prospecting level 51.
*"Vague traces" - Shows for ore that is 5 tiles away. Unlocked at prospecting level 68.
*"Indistinct traces" - Shows for ore that is 6 tiles away. Unlocked at prospecting level 85.

The distance away from the analysed stone shard/tile is referring to a square around the tile analysed, as shown in this picture:

(white = 1 tile, blue = 2 tiles, cyan = 3 tiles, green = 4 tiles, orange = 5 tiles, pink = 6 tiles)

Quality
Additionally, at higher prospecting levels, you can begin to see the quality of veins. Veins farther away require more skill in order to assess the quality. Rather than a specific quality, it lists a range of quality. This is the same vein quality system used in prospecting.

The quality ranges are:
*Poor: 20-29 QL
*Acceptable: 30-39 QL
*Normal: 40-59 QL
*Good: 60-79 QL
*Very good: 80-94 QL
*Utmost: 95-99 QL

Level necessary to see quality at specific distances:
*"Traces" quality, unlocked at level 22
*"Slight traces" quality, unlocked at level 40
*"Faint traces" quality, unlocked at level 50
*"Minuscule traces" quality, unlocked at level 60
*"Vague traces" quality, unlocked at level 90 (Needs confirmation)

NOTE

By the most new experiments (done at 20 skill in prospecting), it looks like the more distance the ore is at, the more difficult is to determine what its.
A message like [xx:xx:xx] You notice a slight trace of something, but cannot quite make it out. would be shown then, as an example, for some ore in the 2nd tile radius, displaying the ore vein as unknown (even if the vein is exposed and you can see it).

Anyway, such given message does not mean that there is an ore beyond that point (and if there is, at that lvl of skill its imposible to say), but that there is an ore in the given radius.

It also looks like different kinds of ore have their own difficulty for being detected. So, since the message from above has been given at 20 prospecting skill and with a Silver Vein, the message [xx:xx:xx] You spot a slight trace of zinc ore. has been given with a Zinc Vein at 2 tiles away.

So far, for now, Silver and Lead are not identificable at 20 skill in Prospecting, but Zinc is when its beyond the 1st tile radius.

Direction
In addition to type, quality and distance of the vein, a direction is available from the analyze messages if you have a compass in your inventory. The direction is given as one of 16 possible values:

* the 4 cardinal directions north, east, south and west if the prospected ore is in a straight horizontal or vertical line on the grid
* the 4 intermediate directions northeast, southeast, southwest and northwest if the prospected ore is in straight diagonal line on the grid
* all other locations fall into the 8 directions east/west of north, north/south of east, east/west of south and north/south of west

Example
This is a possible analyse readout at prospecting level 20-29:

You start to analyse the shard.
Lots of different sized stone shards.
You notice a trace of silver ore (northeast).
You take a closer look.
You notice a slight trace of iron ore (south of west).
You finish analysing the shard.

This says that there's a silver ore vein right to the northeast from the tile from which the analysed stone shard was mined. The distance one is the square of tiles immediately surrounding the analysed one. Each increment of distance beyond this is the square of tiles immediately surrounding the previous one. In this example the second square, of distance two, holds the iron ore.

Quick reference
Prospecting skill needed to view type and quality of ore : (fields with "?" are unconfirmed, "unknown" means you will see something like You notice a slight trace of something, but cannot quite make it out.)
Notes
*Rare pickaxe will not add another line of information.
*Ores may also be analysed.
*There is a skill tick chance for each trace strength analysis. (ex. If you can go up to "faint traces" you get 3 skill tick chances.)
*It is possible to detect two veins in the same distance zone. Both can have its quality range listed and be of same type, each on separate lines.
*Stone shard QL plays no part in how much information is given.
*Flint and salt detection is possible.
* Analysing can be done while moving, so long as you do not move too far away (two tiles) from the tile you are currently working on.
* Direction information is included in messages only when you have a compass.
*A visual representation of the messages can be found on this Guide for Analysing.
