A lot of people complain about this type of bridge, but until we have proper [[bridges]] (and maybe [[boats]]) they are our only way to connect two landmasses.&lt;br /&gt;

The best place for a land bridge is the shortest distance between 2 shores, but it is better to be building in a straight line rather than going diagonal.&lt;br /&gt;

===Water Depth===&lt;br /&gt;
Depth of water is a big factor as dirt &amp;quot;flows&amp;quot; when a slope get to 40 (4 meters), meaning that dirt will slide down the slope until it gets to a lesser slope. &lt;br /&gt;

How to tell what a slope is.. Well examine the Tile border, but dirt will also flow if the diagonal of the tile is over 4 meter slope as well.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
As part of planning a land bridge, it may be a good idea to estimate the number of cartloads required. This should be easy, all you have to do is work out how much dirt you need to drop on each corner of a tile to raise it above water level. So if this area was flat and you dropped 40 dirt on corner M, it would just pile up, but if you now dropped 9 more there then it would raise corners G,H,I,L,N,Q,R,S and M up by one dirt. So to get corner M 80 dirt higher that it started you need to get corners G,H,I,L,N,Q,R,S up 40 dirt each, so you would have had to drop 400 dirt.&lt;br /&gt;

So to raise corner M up 120 dirt, then you need to get all corners 40 up, + 40 more for the middle ones + 40 for M = 25 * 40 + 9 * 40 + 40 = 1400 dirt (35 cart loads).&lt;br /&gt;

So for the Vires land bridge, the depth was, on average, 70 dirt (less than 2 cartloads), and the bridge was/is 30 tiles long. &lt;br /&gt;

Next decide if you want to do a one tile or two tile wide land bridge, a one tile wide land bridge will be affected by dirt flow, where as a two tile one is not (if done correctly).&lt;br /&gt;

So for the Vires land bridge...&lt;br /&gt;

As dirt flow has to be taken into account then, if you only drop dirt on one side of the bridge, it would use 140 dirt (70 + the 30 dirt that flows, so have to count the 30 twice in this case + 10 from dropping dirt) for one side and 70 dirt for the other side = 210 dirt per tile forward.&lt;br /&gt;

Overall... 210 * 30 / 40 = 158 cartloads&lt;br /&gt;

So looking at that, a 2 tile wide land bridge would take a fraction more than a one tile wide one up to an average depth of 70 dirt. So if the deepest part is over 100 deep, then i would recommend a 2 tile wide one.&lt;br /&gt;

The decision for the Vires land bridge was for a 2 tile wide one as it looks a lot better than a single tile (also some tiles were a lot deeper than 70).&lt;br /&gt;

It's also easier to slip off a one tile bridge, so a 2 tile bridge is more convenient to use.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Enough of deciding what type of land bridge to go for... Here is how to do one&lt;br /&gt;

==Leading up to the battle==&lt;br /&gt;
A week before the battle, Vynoran Champion Chumpy went by himself to DC Island, to try and get casts to locate the finger. Using gems donated by Fort Mole, Blackhorse, Whosville, and Kyara, and casting during low pop hours, he was able to narrow it down to the hill just east of Dark Citadel. in hopes of getting one last close-in cast, he logged into an alt to see if the coast was clear, but it was not - Seth, a champion of Libila, was in the area of the finger, and had a lot of tiles dug up. Clearly, Chumpy knew he was no longer the only one after the finger. The race was on...&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Having used Wwiiol to ferry gems down to Chumpy earlier, Wwiiol logged in to try to take a shot at the champion. Seth also logged in as Sunn to fight and removed Seth to a safer location. Wwiiol and Sunn fought alone (watched by some not so innocent bystanders) atop the finger hill, with Sunn coming out victorious. Both sides now knew, if they hadn't already, that time was short to get the finger. Both sides notified their people, and the WL assembled those willing to make the trek to Dark Citadel, for what was expected to be a very difficult mission...&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
==Story==&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The leaders of the armies of the White Light, after finding out the Finger's final location, led their troops in towards the sullen fortress of Dark Citadel. The army soon arrived at the dig site and immediately began excavations. The warriors of Dark Citadel sallied forth one by one to fend off the White Light force. The White Lighters stopped digging and prepared to give battle. A raging melee developed out, deaths on both sides and casualties everywhere. Some Black Lighters were courageous enough to show their dedication to Libila; they ran head on into the White Light forces to try and hinder their progress.  They failed. &lt;br /&gt;

After hours of fighting and digging the Finger was finally revealed, and the White Light forces disengaged from combat and headed home for a well deserved rest.&lt;/div&gt;</summary>

Soon after, the community of settlers gathered their ressources to found a small village which was named Independent Settlers. The village deed was surrounded by homesteads on which the members of the community lived, each one catering to nothing but their own likings.&lt;br /&gt;
It was only a few weeks later that the seed of evil came into their neighbourhood. Drawn towards the dark shine of Libila a village inhabited by dark shadows was built and offered a resting area for shady characters in the immediate vicinity of the Altar of Three.&lt;br /&gt;

As the area around the White Altar became more and more crowded, the settlers decided to move on and start developing the northern part of the island, founding a new village of Independent settlers, which soon became a busy town.&lt;br /&gt;

His brother had made the trip before and after a short search Sunn and his brother Seth were united again on the shore of Lake Newtown (last beta). They spent their time giving directions to fresher arrivals and clearing the Avalon hills of any ores they could find.&lt;br /&gt;
As they wandered the woods, they came across a peaceful valley with friendly neighbours and decided to move into the small valley hidden from trespassers and develop the wilderness between Avalon and the Altar of Three.&lt;br /&gt;

Soon after, the community of settlers gathered their ressources to found a small village which was named Independent Settlers. The village deed was surrounded by homesteads on which the members of the community lived, each one catering to nothing but their own likings.&lt;br /&gt;
It was only a few weeks later that the seed of evil came into their neighbourhood. Drawn towards the dark shine of Libila a village inhabited by dark shadows was built and offered a resting area for shady characters in the immediate vicinity of the Altar of Three.&lt;br /&gt;
