The stage was set as the sun began to fall the valiant scourge of Syphilis marched northward supported with TDekker. Purging the WL defenses infiltrating deep into WL territory the scourge struck. After quickly disposing of the light guards the Gate was plowed over with tremendous force and the town was quickly pillaged. One Noble member of the Tiergarden quickly gathered the towns valuables not locked in chests and ran to the homestead mine under the protection of its Spirit Avengers. After securing his position he waited patiently for the invasion to subside. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The scourge's persistence however forced them to fight thru 3 respawns of guards before moving to the homestead. Charging thru the homestead gates they became locked in combat with vicious Spirit Avengers. Yet this foe was still no match for the forces that had risen from the BL. The team quickly dispatched the Avengers and moved on Eddy. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Eddy was then relieved by the coalition of WL soldiers. This band supported by Garretwademan and Wintersolstice among others took up a flanking position at the destroyed town of Tiergarden. As the guards respawned the scourge once again moved on Tiergarden. A skirmish erupted to little results for a brief time while the scourge found a strategy to once again quickly dispatch the deed guards. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Rushing into the town the 4 remaining members of the party advanced on the now 7+ strong members of the WL coalition. The scourge slaughtered them however the addition of a few key wounds greatly weakened the scourge. The WL alliance then acted bravely in spawning back on the deed of Teirgarden and attacked again where some of them received their second deaths. Finally they managed to slay the invaders sans one and recaptured the land for which they had just fought. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The one remaining invader Serph then began a long distance chase spanning many kilos. Finally just south of the town of Independent settlers Serph fell as well. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
This marks the first major battle of Gold laying the battle lines between good an evil.&lt;br /&gt;

It is worth noting that this exerpt was forum propaganda. In actuality BLers had 2 kills for every one WL kill. In the end yes we lost majority of our gear that was due to the major disadvantage of attackers vs defenders.  As a defense the Wlers failed. The BLers completely pillaged the town firing random items out of their town catepult.  On average most Wlers died 1 to 2 times before they killed majority of the BLers.&lt;br /&gt;

This is a good example of why home field advantage is so major.&lt;br /&gt;

Aggressive. Since we can no longer parry (block in-coming hits) with axes it stands to reason that axes should be used while in aggressive mode because in aggressive mode by default you don't defend much at all anyway. Speed is crucial in aggressive mode because if you are moving slower than your opponent and you're not blocking at all... you're going to get hit...It's just a matter of time and speed decreases that matter for you a bit.&lt;br /&gt;

Defensive. Swords can parry. Parrying is a defensive action. Mauls are slower than swords and better against armour worn by people most likely to be using axes or swords so their slowness rules them out for defensive use (in my opinion) because those kind of opponents need hit quickly. Maybe a mix is best here, some use a maul and a sword, but remember that speed is almost as important to you when in def mode as it is when in aggressive.&lt;br /&gt;

Normal. Salt to taste here depending on your weapon skills, but I would choose normal if working with mauls. It's somewhere between def and aggressive mode so it's not the best for swords or axes but some weapon that will allow for parry and that you can hit hard with would be my bet.&lt;br /&gt;

Don't let anyone tell you that one is best or that another is really terrible. Each makes sense with a specific weapon, amour and character traits (body/mind) and each different weapon has different common requirements such as &amp;quot;Do you have a weapon smith or a blacksmith?&amp;quot; (some take shafts which are easier to get at higher ql's for combing than handles are) etc etc. A quick way to make this start to stick in memory is to think: Aggressive = axes, Defensive = swords, Normal = mauls (think through the armour associated with each weapon and make some choices to match them to a style once you've played with it). I'd wait to build normal until both aggressive and def are above 50 and you know how they behave against slow or fast opponents. Then yo-yo like a mad-person.
