When finished, the door of the tower will be 45 degrees to the left of where the player is currently looking.
For example:
A B C<br>
D E F<br>
G H I<br>
If you stand in the center of "E" and face "G" while you're attaching the last piece of the guard tower, the door of the tower will face "H" when completed.
