Adding flattening guide by Tich on new flattening
'''Flattening has been revamped. The information below is mostly outdated and no longer correct'''
==Flattening Guide==
To make a patch of ground perfectly flat is an art, and requires patience. Below is a guide on how to flatten one tile.

When flattening you should not use the "flatten" option, this is only used to check if the tile is flat.

If when flattening a tile it takes 9 seconds, then the tile is completely flat, if it is anything else then you should stop the action straight away so you do not ruin tiles around the one you are trying to flatten.

You should always dig down the tile until it looks flat, you need to check the tile from all angles (North, East, South, West) this will ensure that you have no slopes on the tile. You can check for slopes by looking at the tile outline, the outline should be completely flat when you are looking directly at a compass position (N, NE, E, SE, S, SW, W, NW); this is a well known technique of getting a tile completely flat.

If you are having trouble flattening a tile, then flatten 1 tile using the "flatten" option, then dig down or drop dirt on tiles to match the outline of that tile.

EXTRA TIP!
You can use the flattening action, if The times given when you start to flatten correspond to the corners (maximum 2) that need to be corrected are number of dirt 'difference'above'' flat level and it takes no more than 14 seconds.
If only one corner is 2 steps from being flat, you can use the flattening action here too (19 seconds). --[[User:Helge|Helge]] 16these are :46, 13 June 2006 (CDT)----
0 ="The ground is flat now."1..3 =9 secs4..7 =Flattening timers19 secs8..11 =29 secs12..15 =39 secs16..19 =49 secsetc
To see how many digs you have left on one corner(only if so the other 3 corners time is the "number of the tile are at the same level) subtract dirt difference" / 4, rounded down, * 10 + 9 from the total time, then divide it by 5.
For example if The 'number of dirt difference' is the timer reads 29: difference between the highest and lowest points.
29 so a 9 secs timer could be from tiles like this...
0---1 or 0---3 or 0---0| | | | | |1---2 3---3 0---3
 If At the end of the timer, the tile is in the 1-3 dirt difference range, and the following happens : 1 = "You assemble some dirt from a corner." (and you get one dirt added to inventory).2 = "You assemble some dirt from a corner." (and you get one dirt added to inventory).3 = If you are carrying at least one dirt you get "You use some of the dirt in one corner." or if you are not carrying any dirt then you get "If you carried some dirt, it would be used to fill the 1 corners that need it." Note that after flattening, its a good idea to flatten again if you got the "assemble" message, as there may have been 2 dirt extra. Also if you did not have a dirt on you to use, you may want o dig one (from another tile) and reflatten so it can use it. Main problem with flattening a large area, is that is it hard to tell how many dirt a certain tile needs. I'll try to explain... 3 tiles in a row.
0---1---1---2| A | B | C |0---0---3---1
 Flatten tile A and C and end up with...
0---0---2---2| A | B | C |0---0---2--- 2
 Note after flattening tile A, you would get a dirt in inventory, and flattening tile C will use that dirt. Now, when you test tile B (flatten, and then stop, making note of the timer), you will see that its timer was 9 = 20seconds, 20but will not know if its like ...
0---0---1---1 or 0---0---2---2 or 0---0---3---3| A | B | C | | A | B | C | | A | B | C |0---0---1---1 0---0---2---2 0---0---3---3</5 = pre> So you will need to add dirt (in multiples of 4 (one to each corner maybe easiest)) to tile A (or remove dirt in mutiples of 4from C (one from each corner maybe easiest)) and check again, Repeat until you get the "The ground is flat now." message.
You'll have 4 digs left
