Information About This Land

Plattekloof is a village formed by Meerkatjie and Marlon(now Haskell), against the slopes of The Great South Mountain Road area on Independence. While being a very dynamic and friendly village, it is not known for being open to newcomers. Plattekloof villagers do however and usually, go out of their way to assist those in need. The village itself is governed by the two founding members, and produces its own food, raw materials and other basics. Currently, mining, forestry and horse breeding is being focussed on.
Plattekloof is very friendly towards the settlement of Greenwood, and thus granted special access to Kasumi.

History, Background, Vision

When Plattekloof was founded on the slippery, steep and dangerous side of the Great South Mountain Road, the vision was simple. A token amongst the trees, a shed for food and tool storage and later a house to live and sleep in. Over time, the luxuries were added slowly, Meerkatjie worked hard making many bricks and a lot of mortar. Paving was added, a stone house was added, walls erected and before we knew it, stable areas started forming. Plattekloof had to grow a little bit, but our neighbours (then Grace Manor) was preventing this. One fateful day, they disbanded, moved on and we took the chance. Later, much later, Kanenia joined us, a very home-bound, dedicated villager. He dumped some upkeep on the token, and took a piece of land that used to be Grace Manor, and turned the ruins into his thriving land. Now that his father and brother have joined him, they are constantly working hard on projects like the Inn and the new road joining the Great South Mountain road with the Freedom Docks and Inner Sea coast. Even though all villagers of Plattekloof co-exist in harmony, we do not interact much. Busy days, busy projects, and different goals keep things going without us having to co-operate too much. Things drive themselves, and the settlement shows it. The rules are simple enough to aid everyone in achieving what they want without hassles and tie-downs. Every section is basically open to everyone, but we do not take or use other villagers resources or equipment. Trust is number one, and new villagers who break this trust soon find this out.

The current sections of open land are planned to become some more usable buildings, like warehouses and crafting areas, but much of it will remain natural.

Plattekloof is, as always, strong and ever-growing, self-sufficient and our favourite homestead.

Town Crier

We have settlement alarms and general notices going [| here, to a twitter feed].

Joining/Refuge

Our land is currently being used completely. Until we can afford to buy more land, we regret that there is no more space for new villagers until further notice.

Local Laws

We do not like imposing rules on villagers, but some points are worth standing for. Apart from the different roles that a villagers may belong to, there are also separate permissions. For instance you may not have access to pass fences, but you may have building access. This does not mean that you are allowed to build anywhere, please check with the mayor, deputy or Gentry about this.

Other than that, follow common sense and etiquette to ensure friendly relations.

Feel free to do as you please in your assigned section/lot, but check in with others when doing things outside of these areas, especially:

  • Digging & Terraforming - this could damage or ruin someone elses plans.
  • Mining (check with the mine owner about the mine plan/direction etc, to avoid unstable mine shafts)
  • Picking up stuff, (particularly when it is from personal yards, storage containers, carts and animals)
  • Cutting down or harvesting 'organised' trees or farm fields. The owners might have their own intentions or goals.

Rule 0: Enjoy your stay.

This means you, and everyone else gets the same privileges. The mayor or deputy or gentry won't interfere with your personal space either, unless it is necessary for daily upkeep in your absence (ie, unlocking a gate to free a dying animal etc)

Please contact the Keeper if you have any questions or issues :-)
