 Pine is the most common species of tree in Wurm - spreading and populating almost as fast quickly as fruit trees while also yielding large amounts of decent wood. Pinewood does not yield any bonuses or detriment to items made from it - it's only bonus is it's availability in almost every area in Wurm.
