In the second stage, the maximum QL of the finished compass produced by attaching the iron needle to the unfinished compass is:
QL of unfinished compass + ( QL of needle /2 )
For example, using a QL20 unfinished compass and a QL70 iron needle, the maximum QL of the finished compass will be QL45QL55.
