The [[QL]] of the [[handle]] plays a role in the success rate while crafting. A failed attempt will destroy the handle and the [[Long sword blade|blade]], yielding you [[metal scrap]].
A quick way to increase your skill level using the long sword is to cut down trees with it. You can only reach 20 skill doing this though. On Epic, this is curved to approximately 11 skill.
