== Breadcrumbs ==
It used to be common organise breadcrumbs outside the Complete Database like this:
[[Main Page]] :: <font color=blue>Page1</font> :: '''Current Page'''
I'm seeing more pages outside of the Complete Database being done like this:
[[CDB|Main]] / <font color=blue>Page1</font> / '''Current Page'''
Please could everyone help to fix the breadcrumbs!
==RE: ''Player:'' Redirects And Babel Information==
Okay, we need a collaborative effort in making all of these happen. As you should know, a Wiki redirect is as follows: ''<nowiki>#Redirect [[Pagename]]</nowiki>''. So when you come across a link to a User:USERNAME page please take the time to copy all the information on that page then make a redirect to Player:PLAYERNAME(for this purpose we will assume every wurmpedia account has a corresponding Wurm Online player account, if not please redirect that user page to the matching in-game name). Now go to the page you just redirected to and paste the information in, additionally you will need to add to the bottom of the page ''<nowiki>[[Category:Ingame Help]][[Category:Players]][[Category:Babel/INSERTFIRSTLETTEROFPLAYER'SNAMEHERE]]</nowiki>''.
I feel we need to discuss on how to do the talk pages for users, should we redirect the User talk:USERNAME to Talk:Player:USERNAME or vice versa? ~ [[User:Tigiot|Tigiot]] 01:18, 4 February 2007 (CST)
: Keep the user talk page. The wiki emails me when my user talk page is changed, it does not when my player talk page is changed :) [[User:Manny|Manny]] 02:30, 4 February 2007 (CST)
::'''AHAH!''' I was talking on the MW irc and they told me of a simple solution. :) We get Egal to rename the User: namespace to Player: they also said for us to get Egal to upgrade ;) not sure if it's required to change namespaces(why would it be, seems like a simple database thing) ~ [[User:Tigiot|Tigiot]] 13:58, 7 February 2007 (CST)
It would be so much easier if Notch just changed the client to access User: pages instead of Player: pages. --[[User:Ancient|Ancient/Graham Edgecombe]] 06:26, 16 February 2007 (CST)
I've changed my opinion on this, I think User: and Player: should be kept separate, some users might want different info to display on each. --[[User:Ancient|Ancient/Graham Edgecombe]] 02:09, 31 August 2007 (CDT)
===Babel===
On another note, for uniformities sake can we all make it so that when we are adding categories that we '''always''' make <nowiki>[[Category:Babel/LETTER]]</nowiki> the last category in the article? ~ [[User:Tigiot|Tigiot]] 01:21, 4 February 2007 (CST)

If you are using Mozilla Firefox to edit these Wiki-pages, I suggest you get this Wiki-extension : http://wikipedia.mozdev.org/<br>
Gives you fast access to almost all Wikipedia editing features.
:http://www.downloadsquad.com/2006/09/01/firefox-2-making-your-old-extensions-work/ for if you use Firefox 2.x ~ [[User:Tigiot|Tigiot]] 20:36, 2 February 2007 (CST)
::Update: There is a slight problem, easily fixed though. Close Firefox. First download this file into some folder on your computer: http://downloads.mozdev.org/wikipedia/wikipedia_0.8.0.2.xpi. Next extract the wikipedia_0.8.0.2.xpi file into C:\Documents and Settings\[USER]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\[PROFILE THINGY]\extensions\wikitoolbar. Now go back to the profile directory and edit the file in there called extensions.ini by adding an extra extension variable in continuity with the value of the wikitoolbar folder. Restart Firefox, now it won't be on the add-ons list but it will appear. This took me about 2 minutes to figure out. ~ [[User:Tigiot|Tigiot]] 21:06, 2 February 2007 (CST)

== Babel ==
This babel is quite a load of work. Makes me amazed at how big this wiki really is.
:I know, I've done tons of pages. :) <small>--http://img157.imageshack.us/img157/1144/duckie0fq.gif[[User:Lainiwakura|Lain Iwakura]] 10:22, 22 June 2006 (CDT)</small>
== French branch ==
I was wondering if a translation effort would be welcomed. Is it?
Huh? There are not that much French people playing wurm :p I would be useless
And how could we translate the 1000+ article? It's a lot of work, and I don't think that there are a lot of people who can speak french who want to translate the whole wiki :O
Up to now, me and Kiri are on it. We tried it on the '''Main page'''. --[[User:Kanif|Kanif]] 14:03, 14 June 2006 (CDT)
I asked [[User:Egal|Egal]] and she said that the french pages should be prefixed with either "Francais:" or "Fr:". I think "Fr:" would be just fine. Onward, "Es:", "Ru:", might become interesting. --[[User:Kanif|Kanif]] 02:05, 16 June 2006 (CDT)
Would it be possible for Wurmpedia to detect the language preference of the visitor's browser and redirect those who chose fr, fr-CA, fr-FR, fr-BE, fr-CH and on to <nowiki>[[Fr:Page principale]]</nowiki>? --[[User:Kanif|Kanif]] 22:10, 16 June 2006 (CDT)
That would be possible if we asked Egal to make a script that does it. For example there is a wiki.php script which is executed when the user clicks "Wiki" in the menu, instead of going straight to the wiki, then the wiki.php script finds the language and redirects the user onwards to the real wiki.
--[[User:Ancient|Ancient]] 05:32, 17 June 2006 (CDT)
My proposed code is below:
<?php
// Language Redirect Script by Graham Edgecombe aka Ancient
//
// Find the user's language
$language = $_SERVER['HTTP_ACCEPT_LANGUAGE'];
// Default it to English if it is not set by the browser
if(!isset($language))
{
$language = "en";
}
// A list of all the languages supported and their "Main Page" names is defined here
$languages_supported = array
(
"en" => "Main Page"
"fr" => "Page principale"
"de" => "Hauptseite"
);
// Checks to see if the users language is supported
if(isset($languages_supported[$language]))
{
// If so redirect them to their language's home page which is "language code":"Main Page in that language" - of course this means English goes to "En:Main Page" so we will have to make a redirect in the wiki to go back to "Main Page"
header("Location: http://www.wurmonline.com/wiki/" . $language . ":" . $languages_supported[$language]);
}
else
{
// Otherwise redirect them to the Main Page, this could also be another page saying that the language is not supported
header("Location: http://www.wurmonline.com/wiki/Main Page");
}
?>
--[[User:Ancient|Ancient]] 05:28, 17 June 2006 (CDT)
The web server has a function that, when there is a page that has multiple copy but all ending with a language code (ex.: index.html.en, index.html.fr, index.html.fr-CH, index.html.es) then it returns the file that match the language of the browser. It isn't turned on by default.
I don't think that would work with the wiki - it would do a different index.php file for each language, what we want is a different page in the wiki database, and that has to be done by passing a different parameter to the script, not by finding a different index.php file. --[[User:Ancient|Ancient]] 01:55, 18 June 2006 (CDT)
***Did anything ever become of this idea? The implementation seems sound enough. <small>--http://img86.imageshack.us/img86/8964/duckieta2.gif[[User:Lainiwakura|Lain Iwakura]] 03:48, 21 December 2006 (CST)</small>
== German translation ==
Well I've translated the Main Page into [[De:Hauptseite|German]]. It has been done by using my current knowledge, looking up words in dictionaries and not translating the complicated bits - just removing them! There are probably some mistakes in there - if someone finds any and knows German then please fix them! --[[User:Ancient|Ancient]] 02:50, 18 June 2006 (CDT)
== Dutch Translation ==
i guess since were having german and french translations that a dutch one would also be in place? --[[User:Sppt|Sppt]] 07:29, 18 June 2006 (CDT)
:If you know Dutch then it would be great! --[[User:Ancient|Ancient]] 06:48, 19 June 2006 (CDT)
::dutch is my mother language
::edit: i'm thinking of making a program either in php or java to grab the page, then i run some. replaces over it to translate it, write it to a file, and then i'm going to check them and upload it. but the thing is: i have to think of a way to do this
::edit of the edit: i managed to do it using the curl library, code is [http://pastebin.com/720817 here]<br>
::note: this is only the source grabber, i'm working out how to strip out the content ~ [[User:Sppt|Sppt]] 15:24, 19 June 2006 (CDT)
== Signature generator ==
Today I made a signature generator for my Wurm fansite.
You can access it [http://www.grahamedgecombe.com/wurm/index.php?c=signature.php here].
You can choose a background image, add some text and put some dynamic text in. At the moment you have three choices for dynamic text: number of players on home server, number of players on wild server or number of players on all the servers.
It might be slightly off to what you see on [http://www.wurmonline.com www.wurmonline.com] because it only updates every 5 minutes.
Here's a sample signature:
http://www.grahamedgecombe.com/wurm/sig.php?r=255&g=255&b=255&img=6&text_dynamic=pcTotal&dynx=200&dyny=80&text_normal=%3D+Ancient+-+Wurm+Online+Player+-+Member+of+DarkWood+%3D&staticx=5&staticy=20&/file001.png
It exports HTML, wikicode and BB code.
Thought it might be interesting to put it up here. --[[User:Ancient|Ancient]] 07:33, 30 December 2006 (CST)
Another thought: maybe we could make a player count for the main page. Anybody like the idea? --Ancient 07:39, 30 December 2006 (CST)
== Translation guidelines ==
Since some people might be doing some Polish translations, I've set up a page with some basic guidelines on how namespaces should be used etc - [[WurmPedia:Translations]] - any comments? --[[User:Ancient|Ancient/Graham Edgecombe]] 13:13, 14 September 2007 (CDT)
== Japanese wiki ==
I'm a bit hesitant to mess with the main page, but the japanese community have been working on their own wiki & I thought it might be a good idea to link to it. It's here:
http://wurm.mmorpgplayer.com/ --[[User:Uzetaab|Uzetaab]] 03:16, 2 January 2008 (CST)
: I added the link to the language bar. - [[User:Dashiva|Dashiva]] 17:04, 2 January 2008 (CST)
== Duplication of effort and redirects, a suggestion ==
Since the client has supported redirects for a while now, how about a bit of a reorganization spree involving deleting all the Item: Creature: Skill: (and so on) pages and redirecting them to their equivalent main namespace articles. I'm sure I can't be the only one who thinks having to maintain two copies of most pages is a big unnecessary pain.
[[User:Robert|Robert]] 04:48, 27 February 2009 (CST)
: Redirects were never the issue to begin with. The reason we have ingame help pages is because the client doesn't support markup. - [[User:Dashiva|Dashiva]] 10:51, 27 February 2009 (CST)
== Namespaces for Settlements ==
There are a lot of settlements listed on the Wiki and I suggest that they get their own namespace, regardless of their server or whether or not they longer exist. This would tidy them up into one area and also mean if anyone happens to create, or have already created, a settlement with the same name as a current page there would be little confusion. I know we already have categories for the settlements, but I believe they deserve their own namespace... even more so than wounds (which DO have their own). Thoughts? --[[User:Marni|purp]] 10:04, 21 May 2009 (CDT)
:Seems reasonable to me, however what about the situation of two villages having the same names on different servers, how would that work? [[User:Robert|Robert]] 11:47, 21 May 2009 (CDT)
:: I like this too. rolf could make it so when u right click on the token and select "what's this?" u will see village's wiki page. something similar to "Player:" pages. [[Player:Norill|Norill]]
:Hm I don't know if creating a namespace like "Settlement:" or so would be the best solution, is there a function/way to "join" multiple categories on one page? Effectively there will be abandoned settlements, freedom settlements, wild jk/mr/hots settlements and epic jk/mr/hots settlements (8 categories total), the home settlements will either go to abandoned or to one of the other servers.
:Settlements with identical names on different or same server (if possible) have to be linked on a disambiguation page either way (e.g. Existing Village (Freedom) and Existing Village (Wild)), regardless of having a namespace or not. Or we could just create a new Category, additionally to server-specific categories and just name it Settlements.
:Either way, it would be a hell of a lot of editing. --[[User:Ulviirala|Ulviirala]] 13:47, 21 May 2009 (CDT)
:I'd be willing to do work on it.... if not all of it. We could always test on a few settlements which already exist... and we don't have to limit it to deeded settlements. If you search for Bees for example, it brings up an old settlement. If wurm ever introduced bees into the game (for honey say..) then this is going to cause a conflict. Just an idea, nice to see a few people discussing though. Any further ideas anyone? --[[User:Marni|Marni]] 14:20, 21 May 2009 (CDT)
::Hm I just saw that the [[:Category:Settlements]] sums all categories up pretty much, so I think they will be fine without a namespace imho. --[[User:Ulviirala|Ulviirala]] 08:17, 22 May 2009 (CDT)
:I'd love to be able to filter out all the village updates from 'Recent changes'. That would be quite simple if we put villages in their own namespace. Shouldn't be too hard to simply move them all there and I'm be willing to do it. --[[User:Arvid|Arvid]] 12:56, 28 December 2010 (UTC)
== Volume and Capacity ==
I would like to propose adding Volume and Capacity to the item template. Capacity would apply only to containers (removed from other items) and would be the capacity of the container in liters. Volume would be the volume of the item, also in liters.
For binnable items, the volume is easy to figure out, as that is what the weight column represents in the BSB. For other items, this number can be obtained experimentally by seeing how many fit into certain containers. --[[User:Telarin|Telarin]] 20:37, 22 December 2010 (UTC)
== Reorganization of Talk Page ==
General WurmPedia topics can now be discussed on this separate WurmPedia project page (The title corresponds with the similarly named discussion thread on the Wurm forums). This will allow our wiki community to dedicate the [[Talk:Main Page]] talk page to the continued improvement of the [[Main Page]].
An informational notice has been added to the top of the [[Talk:Main Page]] to support this change of practice. An infobox has also been added to the bottom of the page to allow continued access to previous discussions without crowding-out active discussions.
Previous discussions non-relevant to the '''Main Page''' have been moved here where they will also be properly archived.
This new arrangement follows the general practice of other wikis. Hopefully, this will encourage more participation by seasoned wikipedians in the Wurm Online community. --[[User:Thyrh|Thyrh]] ([[User talk:Thyrh|talk]]) 11:52, 4 June 2012 (CDT)--[[User:Thyrh|Thyrh]] ([[User talk:Thyrh|talk]]) 11:36, 4 June 2012 (CDT)
