The Hell Hound has an extremely large aggro range, estimated at 10-20 tiles. One should have at least 40 Fight Skill and 50QL+ armor and weapons to take one on with the possibility of only medium wounds. Hell Hounds will walk in shallow water, but do not swim.

Although the flames like [[lava spider ]]s and [[lava fiend|fiends ]], they do Cut damage from their claws and no burn damage.<br/>
