Description

A gift box with nice decorations.

Ability to create item removed from game, see here: http://www.wurmonline.com/2014/01/08/slew-of-bugfixes/

The gift box was a player-made gift that could be addressed to other players. Unfortunately it became widely abused to avoid decay on many items, especially food, which devs found to be undesired behavior.

Creation/Wrapping Method

  • First, activate a wood scrap, right-click the item to be wrapped into a present, and select "Wrap". Next, 'rename' the gift box with the name of the recipient. The gift itself will then carry the name: "From creator to receiver".
  • Wrapping Event Text:
You start to wrap the <item> in a nice package. You will have to destroy the package to retrieve it afterwards.
You create a box side.
You create another box side.
You create yet another box side.
You create the last box side.
You create a bottom.
You create a top.
You paint the package.
You add some decoration and put the <item> in it.

Additional Notes

  • To open the gift box, right-click it and select "Open". Opening will destroy the box, while just the contents will remain. Only the named recipient or the creator can open the box in this way.
  • Players with long names were reported to have problems opening the box. It was therefore suggested that players experiment with the process before wrapping something of considerable value.
  • The gift box is created at a quality of 99. It decays slowly, only if left off-deed, and it cannot be repaired or improved.
  • The gift box will always say, "It is made from birchwood", despite the wood scrap type used in creation.
  • Items unable to be gift wrapped include: wood scrap, edible items, ores, lumps, rock shards, and leather.
  • Gift boxes will not burn if placed in a fire, forge, or oven. Instead, they will glow red, much like a metal lump, not incurring any decay/fire damage. However, players can use a gift box as fuel by selecting the "burn" option on the burning vessel with the gift box activated. The results of this action are not yet confirmed.
  • Players can destroy a gift box in a trash heap, along with its contents.
  • Gift boxes can no longer cross server borders, either via ship, or through the mail.
  • An examine action performed on some of the gift boxes will then refresh them and allow the intended recipient to open them.
