Crossbow Farms (XBF) is a size 5 village hidden in a valley surprisingly close to Newtown on the Home Server. It is due south of Aegis, about 130 tiles from that settlement. The village is owned by Urman, and currently the deed is held by Capella (an alt).

The village provides agriculture goods and naval stores for sale in Newtown, and serves as a quiet refuge for its occupants. It is not recruiting at this time.

Undeeded holdings on the edge of the village lands are welcomed, as is reasonable levels of logging (and replanting) and hunting. The lands currently have no known creature spawns, although wolves and bears are occasionally found here. Mining is discouraged, please. Local mines yield predominately iron; there is no need to mine this common metal within the deed perimeter.

Crossbow Farms has the limit for deed placement set at the default at 100 tiles for both homesteads and villages. It also uses the default settings of no non-village fence, road, or buildings within 50 tiles. There is no interest at this time in relaxing those settings.

History

The village farms were originally leveled and fenced by Crossbow, who had an undeeded house and workshop in the valley. He was assisted by Bikerduck and Iambob, from the early Oakvale holding just south of Aegis. Crossbow also opened a moderate sized mine with zinc and iron veins, and most critically, access to the water table. He also planted groves of birch, maple, and olives in the hollow west of the farm, as well as a mixed herb garden closer to his buildings. When Crossbow left Wurm, he gave his buildings and farmlands to Urman who had maintained the areas during several long absences. After he left, Crossbow’s buildings were replaced and the new buildings were labeled “Crossbow Farms” in recognition of his lasting efforts.

Urman expanded the stone-fenced farmlands, and planted and fenced extensive tree farms. He also improved the paths leading to the north (to Aegis) and east (to an area known as Miller’s Tower and to Newtown), with well graded paved roads. The roads have a distinctive pattern of 4 cobble tiles and 1 gravel tile for visibility. Most of the paths were bordered with camellia bushes for the alchemy ingredients. Urman also built a guard tower to protect the bottom of the valley.

The deed that is currently at Crossbow Farms was originally placed by Larken at the village of Forest’s Edge, which was about 90 tiles south of the current farm. Forest’s Edge included Larken, his wife Stcheryl, and a few friends. When Stcheryl became disinterested in Wurm, Urman bought the village from Larken, who moved further into the wilderness and eventually moved to Wild. When creature spawns were introduced, a crocodile spawn appeared on the deeded area at Forest Edge. No one lived at the village, but it was used as a local chat channel. The deed was pulled from Forest Edge and placed at Crossbow Farms during the amnesty when the Mol Rehan home server was opened.
