Defensive fighting style significantly increases your parry chance and reduces movement penalty. However, this style lowers attack speed, damage, and accuracy in exchange. Defensive fighting is best used with a sword as these weapons have a high parry change and possibly a shield to increase the blocking chance even further.
When fighting a creature with a group, the fighter taking the damage (the tank) usually uses defensive fighting to minimize injury, while the other players use normal or aggressive mode.
