Q) How do I get started?
A) There are 3 things that are considered essential to getting started:

#You need to start developing your cooking skills, go here: How do I get Food/Cook guide

#You need to build a house, go here: The "how do I build a house?" guide.

#You need a chest with a lock for secure storage, go here: Secure Storage

Q) What is that white beam/light/line?
A) It is called the White Light. At the base of it you will find the Altar of Three. From this you are able to become a follower of one of the three 'good' gods. See Religion for further details.

Q) What is that black beam/light/line?
A) It is called the Black Light. At the base of it you will find the Bone Altar. From this you are able to become a follower of the one 'evil' god. See Religion for further details.

Q) What's the difference between equip and activate?
A) An active item can be used to interact with the world around you, like cut a tree down with your small axe active. You equip a weapon which is then used automatically while in combat.

Q) How do I activate an item?
A) Double click on it. It will show up at the bottom of the Inventory next to Active: This means that you can use the item for the tasks it is designed for.

Q) How do I equip a weapon?
A) Put it in your right hand. A second Weapon can go in the left hand, but it is used less often, so put your main weapon in your right hand. When you do so, you will get an event message: 'You equip a Short Sword in your right hand'. You may also want to put a shield on your left arm.

Q) Where do I get a Pelt?
A) Pelts are a product from Large Rats and Wild Cats. In order to get one, you first have to find and kill one of those animals. then you have to use a Butchering Knife to butcher the corpse. If you are successful, you will get a pelt. Alternatively, you may be lucky enough to find one for sale at a Trader, or you might find a more experienced player willing to give or sell you a pelt.

Q) Can I starve to death or die of thirst?
A) No. If those bars are empty, you wont be able to do some work, like mining and your Stamina will go up very slow. FOr more information, read here: Basic Knowledge

Q) How do I get food?
A) If you have been playig less than 24 hours, you can get free food by visiting The Barkeep in the tavern at Newtown. While you take advantage of this free food it is recommended that you begin gaining skill at cooking, it is essential to the game. Start by making a Pottery Bowl and foraging some food, then cooking it in a fire. More detail can be found at the How do I get Food/Cook guide.

Q) Where are the rest of my beginner tools?
A) When a new character is created, some of your equipment is automatically equiped. So, check your Torso and Hands. See Inventory for further details.

Q) How do I get new basic tools?
A) It is prefired that you try to retrieve your original tools if possible. To do this, you need to find your corpse. Note that your tools could have been taken by a BLer, but if you have just started, they would probably not be of interest to them. If you are unable to get your original tools back, you can re-start the game as a guest, then simply walk out of Newtown and drop your tools on the ground. When you re-start as your propper character, you can pick the tools up.
