However, it does have the advantage of making the village name a little clearer. In the current version it is easy to simply not see the village name at the top of the table as the result of your attention being drawn by the bright header backgrounds below it.

The second change is to add fields for Elders and Citizens.

My reasons for wanting these added are fairly simple. It is useful for villages that want to recruit new members to have their inhabitants names easily and clearly visible. It would be also be useful for people attempting to contact a certain villager to have a list of which other people in the same village might be able to pass on a message or item.

Ugh, I give up I suck at Wiki templates.

style="text-type: italic;" | {{{motto|A village like any other}}}

would be useful right under the settlement name and I couldn't figure out how to make it not start in the table. - Tigiot 22:52, 8 November 2007 (CST)

I nested the existing table inside the new one to get two captions. The name is the outer caption and the motto is the inner caption. - Ketza 13:35, 9 November 2007 (CST)

I collapsed it back into a single table, and changed the page to include an example instead of itself. - Dashiva 17:10, 9 November 2007 (CST)

Suggested Template Alterations

Following Dashiva's suggestion, here is my submission for a slightly different Settlement template.

Its not perfect.

  • I seem to have a minor problem with the formatting that is resulting in there being and empty white column on the right hand edge. Unfortunately I do not know enough myself to be able to correct that.
  • I also do not know why the word NOINCLUDE is appearing at the top of the page. Maybe its just because I am viewing the template as it includes itself or something?

However, it does have the advantage of making the village name a little clearer. In the current version it is easy to simply not see the village name at the top of the table as the result of your attention being drawn by the bright header backgrounds below it.

The second change is to add fields for Elders and Citizens.

My reasons for wanting these added are fairly simple. It is useful for villages that want to recruit new members to have their inhabitants names easily and clearly visible. It would be also be useful for people attempting to contact a certain villager to have a list of which other people in the same village might be able to pass on a message or item.

The third change is not necessarily do useful. That was to add the headings Location, Description, Trade and History to the copy/paste area. My aim there was to try to duplicate the deafult layout on the item creation pages so that each ettlement page would have a similar underlying structure.

NB: apologies for all the spam to the Recent Changes list the other night. I wasnt really aware that that was happening so I was just taking the same approach as I would on a lengthy forum post. Trying to change my bad habit now ;)
