For images on the wiki, unless it needs to be high quality (e.g. for showing different graphics options in the client), I recommend optimizing the file size by making it a 256 color palette based (optimized Octree) PNG, non-interlaced. Resulting in incredibly small file sizes while still maintaining great quality. If you zoom in, it may look corny. That's why when you need high quality images, don't save it as a pallete based image.
