Chain armour generally provides a middle ground base defense defence with moderate penalties to speed. The wearer will walk moderately slower and have a moderately slower attack speed. Chain armour offers a defense defence bonus vs stabbing damage, while the equipment itself receives extra damage from stabbing.

Chain armour is known to provide an additional 20% more damage mitigation than [[:Category:Studded leather armour|studded leather armour]] of the same quality. This comes at the expense of speed and hit chance.
