Animals in pens and player characters as well can catch a disease.

Animals

Animals will likely catch a disease if they are penned up and not treated properly.

To cure this status feed the animal and use a grooming brush on it, see also Animal husbandry

Player

As a player it is possible to catch a disease after contact with diseased animals.

You will be notified with the following line in the event window (orange text):

You scratch yourself. What did you catch now?
