Meat is acquired by successfully butchering animals, tower guards or players. Starving animals do not give any meat.

- Meat dropped on the ground attracts meat-eating animals and monsters.
- Quality of meat affects the taming timer.
Common Myth: They say that if you put meat in a barrel of water, it will be preserved for several days. However, it is better to cook the meat, because cooked meat can be stored in a food storage bin.
Any container slows decay, but the water does nothing to amount nor frequency of decay ticks - it is just for convenience to have both water and food in one place.
