Description
A fine hen proudly prods around here.
Hen is a farm animal that can be found in the wilderness. They can be lead with a rope without being tamed. Hens do not graze - or if they do, it's not enough to keep them healthy. You must feed them by hand or by dropping a pile of seed near them. When eating from a pile, they seem to eat roughly 10 seeds per RL day. After they eat 2 seeds they will lay 1 egg every 3 hours.
Eggs can be used for cooking, eating, or hatching new chickens. To hatch eggs, lay one on a tile and allow it to decay. When it reaches 100 damage, there is a small chance that a chicken will emerge. Due to the low success rate of hatching (at least on Freedom), there is speculation that this function is perhaps bugged or is dependent on how dense the server animal population is.
Hens will follow roosters. Chickens will follow hens. It can be quite difficult to separate the animals when this happens, so be careful about leading too close.
