Before priesting

This is a page aimed at giving suggestions for different skills that can be a good idea to raise before priesting and why. Many skills are harder to raise as a priest and others impossible but might still be of use for various reasons.

General pointers

Some of these can still be raised after priesting depending on what type of priest you create.

  • 10 digging to be able to plant signs
    • Even if you have a main character this can be good since you can only plant 1 sign every 24 hours
  • 15 digging to be able to see slopes when hovering with a pickaxe or shovel
    • Only Fo priests can dig so other priests might not carry a shovel, although Vynora priests can pack with them. Magranon and Libila priests can use the pickaxe
  • Mind logic
    • Mind logic is needed to command vehicles. Magranon and Libila can mine and Fo priests can dig to raise it, but Vynora's resource skill (woodcutting) won't be of much help there (it can be raised with hot food cooking but that requires quite a lot of food items)
  • Body control
    • Body control is needed to ride creatures. Fighting, which can be performed by all priests, gives body control but it might help to be able to at least ride a horse before raising the fighting skill
    • Magranon and Libila priests are able to use archery to gain it, which Fo and Vynora can't. Most other methods as a priest involves either weapons, fighting or making tons of items (since improving is impossible)
  • Carpentry
    • Being able to plan a building of decent size can sometimes be handy to be able to do with a priest character, even if it cannot keep building it, since there is a limitation on how often you can plan a house structure
    • Carpentry can still be raised after priesting by for example making planks, but like most other skills it is raised faster by improving items (and building houses!).

Item creation

Since some items are commonly created in large amounts it can come in handy to be able to use the priest character to help out with it. Even more so if your main character is a priest. Most skills are raised much faster when improving items than when creating them and therefore it can be good to raise some skills before converting to priest.

  • Masonry via Stone cutting
    • Improving grindstones is not the fastest way of grinding masonry, but the stone cutting skill comes in handy when making bricks. Masonry also has the added bonus of it raising mind logic
    • If you ever need to depriest for a while it helps to already hav 30 masonry if you want to build a stone house
  • Cloth tailoring
    • Raising cloth tailoring means it'll be easier to make strings of cloth as well as square pieces of cloth to sacrifice when priested and has the added bonus of it raising body control
  • Toy making
    • After priesting the only method available for raising it is by making lots of yoyos. Having decent toy making skill is especially useful for Vynora priests, partly because it's the double favor item for them and partly because as a Vynora priest you can still perform woodcutting. Libila priests can perform woodcutting as well, though yoyos are not their double favor item
  • Carpentry (again)
    • Raising carpentry a bit before priesting means it will become easier to create planks
  • Woodcutting
    • Raising woodcutting a bit before priesting means it will become easier to create kindlings
  • Blacksmithing
    • Raising blacksmithing a bit before priesting means it will become easier to create various items where quantity usually goes before quality, such as large and small nails as well as ribbons and frying pans
  • Pottery
    • If you intend to work on gardening and soul depth it can be good since both planting the flowers in the pots and watering flowerpots give skill. Pottery also has the added bonus of it raising mind logic and soul depth
  • Weapon heads smithing and blades smithing
    • Raising those skills a bit will make it easier to create blades and heads for tool and weapon creation. It can be useful when creating items where quality isn't an important factor
  • Ropemaking
    • Raising ropemaking a bit before priesting means it will become easier to create ropes once priested. As a priest it is only possible to create items for skill whereas you can improve net traps as a non-priest. Ropes have a high value when being sacrificed and all priests can farm for the wemp needed to make ropes
