Description

Hedges are planted on tile borders using 5 sprouts of the same type per border. As hedges grow, they will appear taller ranging from low, medium, and peak.

Different Hedge Types

Planting

  • The types of sprouts that can be used to create hedges are: Camellia, Cedar, Lavender, Maple, Oleander, Rose, and Thorn.
  • Hedges are planted on tile borders using 5 sprouts of the same type per border.
  • Hedges can only be planted on borders where at least one of the bordering tiles is dirt, steppe, or grass (including trees and bushes).
    • Crops and packed dirt do not count as dirt.
    • The tile type can be changed after planting without destroying the hedge (unless both tiles become rock).
  • Hedges cannot be planted on the same border as an arched wall of any type.
  • Hedges don't have slope limitations for creating, unlike fences.
  • Failure to plant will destroy one sprout.

Growth

  • Newly planted hedges are 'low' and wont block movement until reaching a height of 'medium', or line of sight until 'high'.
  • The spell Wild Growth will progress a hedge one stage towards its peak height.
  • Hedges can be pruned one stage shorter per pruning action using a sickle (to a minimum of 'low'), but will eventually re-grow unless destroyed.
  • Hedges do not shrivel with age.
  • Lavender hedges stay at the lowest height and therefore remain passable.
  • Camellia hedges stop growing upon reaching medium height, blocking movement but allowing line of sight.
  • Hedges do not blossom with seasonal produce nor do they produce sprouts.

This low hedge is growing steadily. This medium sized hedge is growing steadily. This hedge seems to be at peak height.

Notes

  • With a Body strength of 21, hedges can be destroyed by a Hatchet or any bashing tool.
  • Low hedges are easier to destroy than taller hedges.
  • The border under a hedge cannot be terraformed without first destroying the hedge.
