After fishing for 3 days str8 I discovered a few things. Firstly, I lost a large amount of fish using a high ql bone hook. But was able to start catching again using a 20 ql lemonwood. No idea why this happens. It also seems that if you cast out too far with a pro rod, you will lose every fish right away. If you cast too close, sometimes you reel a fish in very fast with minimal struggle. This gives less xp, but if u cast right  in the middle of the max cast area and the minimum, fights seem to be longer with less fish loses. Sometimes if I cast too far, I lose every fish and have to switch the side of the ship I'm fishing off to fix it, 7/4/23 Godrobotswife

It's rumored that you catch marlin after 10 skill

Does fishing rod QL affect the success of catching a fish? or the QL of the fish? Zao (Aug 21, 2009)

When I imped my rod I started catching more fish and their QL went up too. Ddddestroyer (Aug 22, 2009)

My skill is only 17. The QL of the rod seems to influence greatly my success rate. A lower QL rod in the 20's results in a fair number of fish getting away. Using a 74 ql rod give me almost a 100% success rate for catching the fish. The QL of the fish seems to be fairly similar when fishing from the same tile. Kaptkaos (July 15, 2011)

Clam Fishing

While attempting to get The super rare black pearl, I have found it will most likely take months. Clam Tile gives Around 4 clams per hour at 20 fishing below. Net ql doesn't seem to make a difference as I obtained more clams on a lvl 13 fishing skill alt with a 30 ql net than I did with a botd 89 70 ql net. After opening well over 50 clams I obtained 3 reg low ql pearls. some iron lumps, seeds, an un identified fragment, a reinforced handle, Lots of seafood meat, and nothing on most of them. Making this challenge huge. Expect to fish on numerous toons for days, weeks, maybe even months for this black pearl. 7/4/23 GodRobotswife

Casting techniques
