Make Your own House Tutorial

The purpose of this tutorial, assuming you know how to work your interface, is to teach you how to make your first house. Bear in mind you will need at least 5 carpentry skill.

Finding an area

First of all try to find a spot which is:

  • Devoid of other players
  • Near a forest, and a rock face
  • Fairly flat
  • Near water

Make sure you've prospected any rock nearby to see what materials you have availible. If you find iron you're in luck.

Getting the ore

Now you have found a spot first of all open the tunnel and find the iron using your pickaxe. Prospect around the area and choose a rock tile which is as close to the ore as possible. Then mine the tunnel open (60 mines). If you open the tunnel and there is no ore there, mine a further tile (50 mines) and then mine left and right 1 tile (100 mines total). If still no ore, mine into the rock a further 3 tiles (100 mines total). Then mine left and right again.

Preparing the area

Choose a tile to place your house, and flatten it using the shovel. Then choose where your door is to be and make sure the area around your door is flat aswell. Make sure the tile where you want your house to be is a dirt tile, and all tiles around are packed tiles. Once you have finished preparing your area, you may begin.

Planning the house

To plan your house you will need:

  • A mallet, or hammer

To complete your house you will need:

  • A mallet, or hammer
  • 1 X large nails per wall
  • 20 X plank per wall

To improve your house you will need:

  • A plank, of higher quality than the wall you want to improve

To repair your house you will need:

  • A plank, of any quality - but lower QL planks are best

To make a mallet, first chop down a tree. Next, chop up the felled tree into logs. Then, with your carving knife, carve 2 shafts. Then carve one shaft into a mallet head. This will decrease the weight of the target shaft by 0.2. Keep making mallet heads until your shaft is gone. Then use the other shaft with the mallet head and try to make a mallet. You may fail or make an unfinished mallet. This early both are useless, so keep trying until you get a finished mallet. Now right click on your dirt tile and click Plan Building. Right click on the building and select Finialize Building.

Gathering the materials

The first and foremost important material is iron. You shouls have found some of that earlier. Use your carving knife with a log to make a kindling and use the steel and flint with the kindling to make a fire in front of your cave. Mine some iron ore and fill the campfire as you get the ore. Every 10 minutes remember to feed your fire with wood scraps - the remains of attempts at making your mallet earlier. Keep the fire going for just over an hour and your ore will magically turn into iron lumps. Combine two lumps whilst they are glowing with heat (examine them) and use the mallet on the result and make a small anvil. Keep going until you actually make one first time. Now use more lumps with the anvil and start making large nails. Make as many large nails as there are walls on your house plan.

Building the house

Once you have the nails done, use your saw with a log and make some planks. Then activate your mallet and right click where you want your door to be and select Build / Door. Then continue to make 19 more planks and continue the same process and finish your door. Then start all over wherever you want windows and walls and more doors if you want. Once complete, pack the dirt inside.

Summary

Next you will need to use your small anvil to make yourself a little toolset. Recommended tools to make are:

Once you have a chisel you can make stone bricks and pave the area around you to make it look nicer. Also make a Small Barrel and fill it with water. With small nails you can begin fencing a yard. Also make a door lock so people can't raid your house. The possiblities are endless.
