In order to smith, harden clay into pottery, or cook, a heat source is required. Often the objects need to be "glowing hot". There are 3 levels of heat that objects need to pass through to be glowing: "very warm", "hot", and "searing hot".
Note: The time it takes items to heat up depends on the quality of the item and heating apparatus (campfire, stone forge, stone oven, etc). Food may or may not need to reach "glowing hot" depending on what's being cooked.
