Ah neat, I see what you mean.  I hadn't noticed those namespace options before at the bottom of the search page.  It doesn't search the Players namespace by default, but it looks like you can change your personal defaults on your preference page.  Ideally, I'd like my name to come up without either having to check the Players namespace box or having to change default search options, but at least I see the Wurm/MediaWiki way of doing it now I guess.  Thanks. :) [[User:Edmazur|Edmazur]] 21:11, 27 May 2008 (CDT)

: Hmm. It's supposed to search players by default, seems like you found a bug. I'll talk to Egal about it. - [[User:Dashiva|Dashiva]] 05:42, 28 May 2008 (CDT)

I made this page so my name could be searched and it would bring you to my page, but from Dashiva's edit, I take it that it's preferred we don't do this. Is there an alternative way of accomplishing what I want to do? Edmazur 14:16, 27 May 2008 (CDT)

Yes, all you have to do is search your name and it should show a link to your page, so this is not needed :) -Cono 14:32, 27 May 2008 (CDT)

When I search "edmazur", it comes up with this page and a couple others where my name is mentioned, but not the Player:Edmazur page (that's the one I'd like to be found). Edmazur 15:14, 27 May 2008 (CDT)

Thats because you made this page and messed up the way your name is searched, All you really need it a Player page because thats where people usually look for your name. -Cono 16:44, 27 May 2008 (CDT)

I tested it out before making this page actually and Player:Edmazur didn't come up in the search results. To see what I mean, try searching for "cono". Neither your user nor player page appears in the results. The technical reason this happens is because databases can't utilize indexes when pattern strings begin with wildcards. So I made this page to act as a redirect to my player page, but it seems this is frowned upon. I'm just wondering if there's an alternative way of doing what I want to do that conforms to Wurm/MediaWiki standards. Seems like reasonable enough functionality to search a person's name and be brought to their user/player page. Edmazur 17:44, 27 May 2008 (CDT)

Ah well that may be my problem, when I search for things I usually click the box pertaining to the thing I'm searching for. For instance, click "Players" when you search for your user name, it should be a little check box. -Cono 20:21, 27 May 2008 (CDT)
