Description
A rudimentary compass, made from a needle floating in oil on a piece of wood in a jar.
A tool that indicates the cardinal points relative to the position of the player.
Usage
The compass must be in the inventory of the player in order to use it. Then, it can be placed wherever you like in the HUD.
Notes
- The quality of the compass affects how long it takes to disappear when moving and how long it takes to reappear when standing still.
- While you are moving, the compass will disappear after a time. At QL1, this time is negligible. At QL30, this time is 2 seconds. At QL70, this time is 10 seconds. At QL99, if it were possible, this time would be 20 seconds.
- When you have stopped, the compass will appear after a time. At QL1, this time is 20 seconds. At QL30, this time is 10 seconds. At QL70, this time is 2 seconds. At QL99, were it possible, this time would be negligible.
- A finished compass cannot be improved. Your best bet is to use high quality components to make it. Additionally they can't be repaired, other than with the mend spell.
Creation Details
The production of compasses goes in 2 stages: Making unfinished ones using pottery jars and olive oil, and finishing them with an iron needle.
In the first stage, the maximum QL of the unfinished compass is:
QL of jar/3 = max QL of unfinished compass
For example, if you're using a QL60 jar, the maximum QL of the resultant unfinished compass will be QL20.
The QL of the olive oil used seems to only increase the success rate of making the unfinished compass, as well as the chance of making an unfinished compass of maximum QL.
In the second stage, the maximum QL of the finished compass produced by attaching the iron needle to the unfinished compass is:
QL of unfinished compass + ( QL of needle / 2 )
For example, using a QL20 unfinished compass and a QL70 iron needle, the maximum QL of the finished compass will be QL55.
General notes:
Note 1.
Test has been performed on avatar with over 63 in miscellaneous skill, that skill seems to be responsible for overall success ratio making compasses
Note 2. The cap of the miscellaneous skill has not been tested due to lack of high quality semi-products, the final ql can be more skill capped.
