Community-Based Enforcement

Tathar encourages community-based enforcement of the Freedom Code of Conduct or a set of conduct guidelines based upon it. Tathar personally will not knowingly do business with any alliance, deed, or individual who violates these guidelines:

Tathar's Conduct Guidelines

  1. Community-Enforcement Guideline: These guidelines may be subject to change or clarification at any time. Other players, deeds, and alliances may choose to enforce these guidelines as is or with changes. If a party chooses to enforce these guidelines with changes, the changes should be well-documented. Enforcing parties may also choose their own consequences for violation and when an action is in violation of these guidelines.
  2. Guidelines Rule: These guidelines are not to be interpreted as hard and fast rules, unless otherwise indicated as rules. Actions that follow the letter of these guidelines but not their spirit are considered a violation as well.
  3. Per-Player Enforcement Rule: Violations of these guidelines are tied to the player, not the character. If a character exchanges hands from a violator to a non-violator, the non-violator should provide evidence that the violator no longer has access to the character so they are not improperly affected by enforcement of these guidelines.
  4. FCC Compliance Guideline: Player actions must follow the rules from the Freedom Code of Conduct, unless an FCC rule conflicts with one of these guidelines. In those cases, the guideline listed here overrides that FCC rule to the extent that it differs.
  5. Fair-Conduct Enforcement Rule: Being blacklisted from trade according to Tathar's alliance's fair-conduct rule also means that you are violating these guidelines. Tathar is not responsible for deciding the blacklist, but is required to strictly enforce it due to his membership in the alliance. Tathar cannot grant exceptions to this rule. Unless otherwise indicated by the enforcing party, other parties that choose to enforce the conduct guidelines do not enforce this particular rule.
  6. Remediation Rule: If you violate one of these guidelines, you must remedy the situation by reversing the offending action or performing remedial actions for the affected players to their satisfaction. If you are able to do either of these things and they can be verified by an uninvolved third party or the affected players, then the offending action may be considered resolved and will no longer count as a violation.
  7. Association Rule: If you are in an alliance or deed with someone who has performed unremediated violations of these guidelines, then you are considered to be in violation of the guidelines yourself, by association. If evidence is presented that your relationship to the offending player has ceased, then you can be reinstated for trade.
  8. Reinstation Guideline: If all violations of these guidelines that are tied to you have corrective actions performed and documented per one of the above two rules, then you may request that enforcing players, deeds, and alliances reinstate you as a non-violator.
  9. The consequences of an action aren't simply about whether a GM will ban you for it, and you must accept any consequences that arise from your actions. Just because a GM won't enforce something doesn't mean that you should do it. Complying with GM-enforced rules is not an excuse to violate these guidelines or complain about the consequences.
  10. You must not plan or build a structure, enclosure, or mine near a deed or deed perimeter without getting permission from the nearby deed owners. Any structure, enclosure, or mine on your own deed or within its perimeter is permitted without asking for permission. This is to prevent actions that harm nearby deeded communities. The term "nearby" cannot be completely defined in terms of tiles, but any structure tile, enclosed tile, or mine tile that shares a tile border with any tile that is 20 tiles from a deed's perimeter is considered nearby that deed. Tiles farther away can also be considered nearby that deed, especially when the deed has enclosures surrounding it that are not part of the deed itself.
  11. You may not restrict access to resources that the nearby deeds have previously declared "community resources" or "public resources" unless those deeds allow it or there is no indication by the resources that they are for public or community use. You may deed the area or add an enclosure as long as the resources remain accessible as before and the nearby deeds agree to allow it. You may not restrict the ability for the owner of a compliant enclosure to repair the enclosure's walls and gatehouse.
