A fairly large two wheel cart designed to be dragged by an animal.
A large cart is a mobile container used to transport cargo and players. It has a larger capacity than its smaller counterpart, the small cart and it can be dragged by a player or led by up to two animals. A large cart can have a commander and up to three passengers.
Contents
Usage
The cart may be dragged by a player or by animals and can store up to 100 items directly on the bed, by using a combination of other containers this limit may be increased.
Hitching
Carts may be driven by one animal, however hitching two will provide a faster pull. All carts need to be of at least 10 quality before animals can be hitched to it or it can be embarked by a player, either as passenger or driver; Hell horses are said to be the fastest of all cart drivers.
- Hitch: Lead an animal with a rope and right-click the cart and select Hitch.
- Unhitch one animal: embark the cart as commander, right-click that animal and choose Unhitch.
- Unhitch both: right-click the cart and select Animals > Unhitch.
Harnesses
Many of Wurm's creatures may be harnessed to pull a cart or wagon. Below is a complete list, in no particular order.
- Adult Horses
- Bulls
- Bison
- Hell horse, young and adolescent
- Bears, if tamed, both young and adolescent
- Trolls when dominated, young and adolescent
The strength of a creature can prevent it from being hitched - conditions such as "greenish" affect their strength.
Notes
- Non premium players can hitch animals to the cart but not command it.
- A cart cannot be driven over tiles that have a total slope over any two adjacent edges of 39 or more.
- Animal traits and conditions will affect the cart speed.
- Commander stamina is drained while driving the cart, however having zero stamina has no effect on the cart movement itself.
- Animals remain hitched to carts during server restarts.
Creation
The cart compromises of two main sections, a small wheel axle and the bed or hold. Large carts can be difficult to start or continue at very low fine carpentry skill, so the higher the quality of the starting plank and the axle, the better the chances of succeeding the creation.
The final piece of wood added will determine the wood type of the cart when attached.
Total materials
This list includes all base materials needed to create the cart and the axle.
- 1 yoke
- 4 small nails
- 7 shaft
- 22 planks
Security
The owner and any person with the Manage right can modify the usage permissions through a window available via the right-click, Manage vehicle context menu. The permissions control Driver (embarking as commander), Mount (embarking as a passenger), Access inventory hold of the cart and Manage these settings. Each of these rights can be granted or denied to all Friends, Villagers and Everyone. The owner will always have all permissions.
Any player can drag an non-hitched cart in the wilderness, regardless of whether or not it's locked. Correct deed settings and local security will help prevent carts being dragged away, as will keeping animals hitched or having it above the weight possible to be dragged.
Important: Permissions only take effect when the cart is locked with a small or large padlock and anyone can attach one to enable the permissions. The lock can be removed by anyone in possession of the key. Another player that cannot normally access the cart will gain full inventory and drive permissions as if they were added to the settings should they attach a lock. To this end, it's important to lock your own cart as soon after creation as possible.
On Freedom carts cannot be lockpicked unless except by the owner. Attempting to do so will result in the following warning: Stealing carts is punished with death penalty here. You decide not to.
Capacity
A large cart normally holds the maximum of 100 items directly in the hold however the total capacity may be increased by stacking other containers, such as rafts and crates, inside. Up to 7 rafts can be added to a large cart or 3/5 large/small crates . Some items, such as felled trees, cannot fit in rafts, and are indicated as such below.
Item | No containers | 6 rafts | 7 rafts | 5 small crates & raft | 3 large crates |

Quantities ending in a question mark are estimated or otherwise unconfirmed. Quantities denoted as "??" are unknown and need to be tested.
Crate and raft combinations
There are various configurations of small crate, large crate and rafts that can be placed together into a large cart.

Loadable items
Not all items currently listed. All containers (except crates) must be empty before loading. You must be embarked as commander in order to load items. Right click item and select load.
- Small crate
- Large crate
- Large chest
- Small cart
- Statue
- Bed
- Bow rack
- Weapons rack
- Coffin
- Bench
- Large dining table
- Archery target
Non-loadable items
See Load cargo for exhaustive list of loadable/non-loadable items by smallest vehicle type.
Notes
- The type of wood currently does not effect the texture or color of the cart.
- The quality of the cart affects its decay rate; there is no other bonuses from increasing the quality of carts.
- The volume of items will affect what fits in the cart. See the container page for a item volume list.
- Although carts cannot be dragged in water tiles, they can be pushed. They can be dragged through tiles with 5 slope of water or less.
- 26.65 kg of dye is needed to paint a large cart.
- The maximum weight a player can drag in a large cart is determined by the formula: (body strength * 7 - carried weight) * 10 - 240.
- As of 1.0 it is no longer known if the following is true. Use caution when building in carts: Items can be stowed in large carts during construction, but will drop out when too heavy and will encumber the cart during construction. If the item becomes too heavy to remove and too heavy to finish, the cart will be useless and the item cannot be removed. If boats are being made in it, then it is advisable to take the cart to the water before finishing the boat.
