Description
A fine hen proudly prods around here.
A Hen is a farm animal that can be found in the wilderness. They can be white, black or brown in color. They can be lead with a rope without being tamed. Hens do not graze. You must feed them by hand or by dropping a pile of seeds, cereals, small vegetables or mixed grass near them. When eating from a pile, they seem to eat roughly 10 seeds per RL day. When fed and kept on the appropriate terrain (see Notes section below), they will lay eggs.
Eggs can be used for cooking, eating, or hatching new chickens. To hatch eggs, lay a fertile egg on a tile and allow it to decay. When it reaches 100 damage, there is a small chance that a chicken will emerge. Due to the low success rate of hatching (at least on Freedom), there is speculation that this function is perhaps bugged or is dependent on how dense the server animal population is.
Hens will be hunted down by carnivorous animals or mobs.
Notes
- 15 kg corpse.
- Extremely weak, and will die quickly after combat is initiated.
- Will only lay eggs on a natural (dirt, grass, crops) tile. Hens will not lay eggs on a lawn tile, rock tile or on enchanted grass.
- Dies at aged stage unless cared for.
- Can have a few hens loaded into a Chicken coop for easy access to eggs
