Age plays an important part in two parts of Wurm.
Trees
When it comes to trees, age plays an important role in the yield of wood you will get from it. The age of a tree goes young, mature, old, very old, overaged, and old and shriveled. To examine the age of a tree, right-click the tile that the tree is on, and examine it. Yhe age will show up in the event box.
Cutting down a young, mature, or old and shriveled tree will yield a very low amount of wood and will be a waste of a tree. Optimum time to cut down a tree is when it is either old, or very old. Some overaged trees can be pruned to return them to very old status but still yield a high amount of wood. Old and shriveled trees are lost and will yield very low useful wood, and can not pre pruned to maintain an useful age.
Creatures
When it comes to the ages of creatures, the ages are young, adolescent, mature, aged, old, and venerable. Creatures take several months to reach the venerable stage. They will eventually die of old age, but most species have extremely long lifespans. One huge spider was observed alive after over six months of real time.
Creature age affects its size and running speed, and older animals will have increased fighting capabilities. Aged animals have been reported to be the fastest around, especially aged huge spiders, anything younger or older will be slower than aged.
