Byzantium
Founded in 1015 by Chewius, and expatriot of Jenn Kellon on the east side of Crystal Canal. Like its historical namesake, Byzantium lies on an important waterway and is at the crossroads of important trade routes in southern central Freedom Isle. There is no staff of guards needed in this peaceful village, we rely on volunteers to fend of hostile beasts. view from Bearshark Overlook
Key buildings and facilities
- Foundry - close to the mine ramp and place for metal smithing and other crafting, storage for bulk materials
- Shipyard- on the bay beside the docks. A convenient place for building ships or offloading cargo.
- Mines- main mine down ramp from the foundry has iron copper and lead veins. 2nd mine along the shore with lead.
- The Barn - near the farmlands. Storage for food and materials, convenient location for crafting non metal items.
- Stables - field for village horses and cows and other non aggressive creatures.
- Cafe - house for cooking and food storage.
- Bazaar- facility for merchants. 1 so far, anyone is welcome.
- Spirit cottage - at village plaza near the token (70) cast
- Trader - on sight, may need to ask for access.
Resources
Important ores including iron and lead and copper are in on deed mine, we maintain tree farms and an almost completed
island for controlled but open access to clay. We also have access to silver and tar. Growing cow and deer
herds will provide meat and hides.
Transportation
By sea: Likely the easiest way to get to Byzantium for most people. From The Howel and Freedom Market via Freedom
Harbor cross Crystal Lake southward to the canal. Can also be easily reached from the southern sea.
By land: Road infrastructure in these parts is limited due to steep mountains across the canal though a main high
way leads to Byzantium from Free Bears to the south and new roads are being made to connect with Avocano.
Recruiting, villagers and housing
We are welcoming any constructive players experienced or not. We just like to have a good time. You're welcome to
help with village projects or do your own thing. There is good area for hunting nearby as well. While the village
population grows there is plenty of room for individual housing if desired or room at the two inns if all you
want is a bed and a chest. founding
