I created this page as a place to lay out, in black and white, exactly what the preferred style of this wiki is. While there are some guidelines on the Complete DB page, I feel it would be better suited here and fleshed out more. Once this page is built, it should be linked from several other pages to direct new users on how to post information in the wiki.

How about putting this in Wurmpedia:Style ? --Lain Iwakura 00:34, 2 March 2006 (CST)

That's somewhat redundant, in my opinion. I mean we're on Wurmpedia now, we know to what Style is referring. --Hephaestus 08:28, 2 March 2006 (CST)

Okies. ^_^ --Lain Iwakura 04:59, 4 March 2006 (CST)

Breadcrumbs

Are these breadcrumps really needed? The reader can come from dozens of pages to a specific page. --Manny

Yup. I think with item articles, it helps new players understand how things are crafted. Plus Ancient would probably cry if you took them out, he seems to have spent so much time on setting the whole thing up. . Lain Iwakura 15:32, 4 July 2006 (CDT)

What is a breadcrumb? :S Ketza 23:37, 9 September 2006 (CDT)

It's the Item > Smithing > Blacksmithing type links at the top of the page. - Dashiva 04:57, 10 September 2006 (CDT)

Decimal Point?

I noticed that some articles use the period, and some the comma. I think that we should decide on one and add it to this style page. Jbobj 16:34, 2 October 2006 (CDT)

For numeric values? The usage is typically tied to language and region. In Britain, the USA, Canada, and Australia it's a dot. But in Sweden and Finland it's a comma. I'd lean towards the use of a dot since it's the accepted international decimal separator. Or we could clear it all up and use the mommayez character :D --Foo 17:09, 2 October 2006 (CDT)

There's no international standard that I know of, but as most (all?) english languages use the period, I'd vote for using the period. --Manny

I also agree that we should use the period. Jbobj 12:22, 3 October 2006 (CDT)

The 10th resolution of CGPM in 2003 declared that "the symbol for the decimal marker shall be either the point on the line or the comma on the line". In practice, the decimal point is used in English, and the comma in most other European languages. (Source). Hence, I'm wrong about it being the international standard. Both are. But as stated, the convention in English is to use decimal point rather than comma. Hence it makes sense to use point on the English portion of this wiki, and the appropriate localised substitution for each translation. --Foo 12:54, 3 October 2006 (CDT)

Village pages/categories?

We got like 5 to 6 different village categories, of wich two (Category:Jenn-Kellon Towns and Category:Whitelight Towns) are near identical to eachother. Alot of the villages found in any of these categories are abandoned. I suggest we merge all these categories into 1 category, and put up all abandoned village/homestead pages for deletion. -Manny

I wouldn't go that far. I've been waiting for the wiki update, but my idea is something like this: Beta settlements are moved (Egal, move action needed, hint hint) to subpages of (e.g.) Beta settlements. Add a template marking them as historical pages, probably with a category or maybe just listing on parent page. Their original locations can be deleted, freeing up the main namespace.
Gold settlements remain as they are, but are templated. Each template displays the settlement type/status and includes the appopriate category, so no categories in page wikitext. I suggest the following types: Abandoned settlement, Home server settlement, Wild server WL settlement, Wild server BL settlement. Alternatively use JK/HOTS instead of WL/BL. No distinction between village and homestead. While we're at it, also enforce village-specific pages as subpages, e.g. Pupanox Founders being moved to Pupanox/Founders. - Dashiva 10:22, 10 October 2006 (CDT)

I agree that the town categories need to be reorganized. I'm not sure how to reorg them, but I think that we should stay away from the WL/BL naming, and use kingdom names, for whenever Mol-Rehan gets introduced. I also am against for deleting abandonded and beta villages, but moving them to seperate category would be best.

Btw, here is a list of the current village categories we have.

 • Category:Blacklight_Towns
 • Category:Whitelight_Towns
 • Category:Wild_whitelight_towns
 • Category:Jenn-Kellon Home Server
 • Category:Jenn-Kellon Towns
 • Category:Homesteads
 • Category:Villages (Previous map villages)
 • Gold Villages and Towns (Page linking them)

Jbobj 12:03, 10 October 2006 (CDT)

Okay, so no deletion :) I dont think we can move all the beta villages pages to a historical part, as some of these towns (including my own town, Kyara) are not abandoned. I suggest moving both abandoned beta and abandoned gold villages into the same category. Can those templates Dashiva suggested be made so that a town can fit into several categories?
I agree on the kingdom names and the enforcement of the settlement specific pages as sub-pages.

This conversation kinda died so I'll bring it back. Manny's suggestions are fine with me. What does everyone else think? Jbobj 22:51, 26 October 2006 (CDT)
I'd go with a wild in the HOTS category name as well, the rest looks good to me. Multiple templates wouldn't be a problem either, although I don't see a use case at the moment. Can make some basic template drafts later today. - Dashiva 03:48, 27 October 2006 (CDT)
I've made some basic templates at Template:s-abandoned, Template:s-home-jk, Template:s-wild-jk and Template:s-wild-hots. The styling could be modified, maybe add an image to give a visual indication of the settlement type. - Dashiva 17:09, 27 October 2006 (CDT)

I started to move the villages around into the newer categories. The top page Gold Villages and Towns needs to be changed to something else, maybe Settlements. The templates are looking good, perhaps we could add the breadcrumbs to the template underneath the box. I mean the things like below.
Main / Settlements / Abandoned settlements / Style
Main / Settlements / Abandoned settlements / PAGENAME
Jbobj 01:28, 28 October 2006 (CDT)

I'm not too keen on breadcrumbs myself, but if people want it it's a simple thing to add. Doing a Category:Settlements for all settlements seems interesting, the question becomes whether we should include the abandoned ones or not. In other news, updated and emptied the rest of the existing categories. Also thinking we could use a better name for the Gold Villages and Towns page. Any thoughts? - Dashiva 04:28, 28 October 2006 (CDT)

Markets

I'm pondering adding a similar template/category system for markets and other commercial entities. Discussion on Talk:Trade for anyone who's interested. Also thinking some of the articles could use a rename. Drop by and share your opinion. - Dashiva 22:38, 20 January 2007 (CST)

Touch-up 01-07

I had my way with the style article. Most of it was style changes (where's the style style article), but I did modify some of the content and added the rule about article titles. Let's hear comments, complaints, etc here if there are any. - Dashiva 22:35, 20 January 2007 (CST)
