Hedeby (English/Danish) / Haitabu (German) was a settlement from the Viking period (9th-11th centuries), located near the present day city of Schleswig, in northern Germany.

Hedeby/Haitabu (HH) is a size 5 village, founded near Bear Bay after that deed fell due to lack of maintenance. This places Hedeby in the northwest corner of Bay of Bears, with ready access to the Newtown-Bear Bay tunnel, the steppe, and the seas.

Hedeby has the limit for deed placement set at the default at 100 tiles for both homesteads and villages. It also uses the default settings of no non-village fence, road, or buildings within the 50-tile perimeter. The deed is placed so that the main highway running to the west of Hedeby to Silent Hill falls just outside the perimeter.

Hedeby will not actively recruit members, it will be held as a personal fiefdom. It may accept subordinate landholders within its perimeter in a semi-feudal manner.

Players who wish to set up within the deed’s 50-tile perimeter in order to protect their house and fields may negotiate for permissions and locations. Clearing trees and terraforming before seeking permission will probably mean you don't get permission.

The tentative plan is for any small-holders to be charged rent in kind. That means rent will typically be paid in labor or in easily gathered materials. Rent will be based on the size of any buildings and fields. A number of people held houses and such on what are now Hedeby’s lands; it is hoped that we can make arrangements for these players/characters. No rents will be charged for any properties through the end of March in any case. A table of rents and tentative values will be added at some point.
