I won't disagree with a 90+ miner obviously. I merely added what I've heard some other sources discuss.

You should disagree with a 90+ miner who doesn't substantiate his claims. Removing the template until some concrete examples for correction are provided. - Dashiva 13:49, 7 February 2009 (CST)

New rock lowering and tunneling stuff

Gonna dig through this article and modify based on the new rock terraforming ability and new tunneling actions

I will agree to that. Something about these stats does seem a little off. Mayhaps Artibaton will provide solid facts at a later date. -Aureate

tunneling seems to always produce rock shards from what I've experienced. - Skyefox

A discussion in CA chat has shown that you can lower the rock tile well below swimming depth even to let corbs pass through the cave canal. I am also adding that it is helpful to keep a rowboat close by for stamina regain when mining down pas water level. -Zachariah

Aye one can mine the floor down well below swimming depth until the game tells you its too deep to mine there (don't recall the exact depth offhand in terms of dirt or mining actions). Having a ship nearby to board is a good idea to regen stamina and avoid drowning. One can mine with zero stamina with no ill effect long as one stays still, just slower and little gain --Klaa (talk) 15:25, 26 May 2015 (CEST)

yar

Some statistics I'd like to dump down.

I mined 1000 copper ore with a ql 66.6 iron pickaxe at 66.8 mining, I gained 0.70 mining skill, putting me at 67.49. Then I mined 1000 gold ore and gained 1.2 mining skill with the same pickaxe and level after I'd mined the 1000 copper. I don't know why people say gold is completely useless. It's really not.

Cleanup

Page is too big and could be confusing for new players. I'm going to create some sub-pages and move some of the stuff away. Also, anything which is considered a guide should really be moved to a guide page and not included on the main skill page. --Marni (talk) 03:58, 7 February 2013 (CST)

I've had a few questions on where the mining warnings went, This should be easier to find, but I don't know how to make it more .. visible. --Amiti (talk) 8:38 p.m., 16 feb
Try that! --Marni (talk) 08:14, 18 February 2013 (CST)

Overhaul

Mining has been overhauled. Thanks Keenan for letting me do this :) --Zachariah (talk) 11:16, 20 August 2015 (CEST)

How Skill and Max Quality Ore Are Related

By Dirk (11/07/2022)

1) Too Long Didn't Read: Here's some data on the bonus to max quality ore from rarity and mining imbue and how it changes with skill. In summary, the higher your skill, the smaller the bonus is from rarity and mining imbue.

2) To Calculate Max QL From Skill Etc.: You can use the formulas below to calulate what skill you need to get the ore you want or vice versa.

- Plug in any mining skill for X and solve for Y to get the max ore ql.

- Plug in any max ore ql for Y and solve for X to get the skill you would need to obtain that max ql ore.

Supreme (100 imbue): y=0.5861x+41

Rare (no imbue): y=0.9187x+7.9445

Can someone teach me how to these into a calculator??? PM Dirk in game (WO).

3) Skill vs Max QL Data For Supreme Pickaxe With 100 Mining Imbue:

If you plot skill (x) and max ore ql (y) you get y=0.5861x+41. The R squared correlation is 0.9999 (this would be 1 if the data was perfect; 0.9999 is really good).

Mining Skill Max Ore QL Bonus (Max QL - skill)
83.477 89.94 6.463
83.712 90.07 6.358
83.958 90.21 6.252
84.400 90.46 6.060
84.701 90.64 5.939
84.949 90.78 5.831
85.313 90.99 5.677
86.225 91.52 5.295
86.886 91.90 5.014
88.008 92.57 4.562
90.000 93.77 3.770

Some predicted Max QL ore (w/supreme pic + 100 imbue):

-Skill needed to get 100 ql ore: 100.66*

-Skill needed to get 98 ql ore: 97.25

-Skill needed to get 95 ql ore: 92.13

-Skill needed to get 93 ql ore: 88.72

  • Note: the 100ql ore prediction is probably high because the game rounds to the 100ths place on the ore QL, and I only rounded to 3 decimal places on the skill data.

4) Skill vs Max QL Data For Rare Pickaxe With No Imbue:

The formula for this one is y=0.9187x+7.9445 (R-squared = 1).

Mining Skill Max Ore QL Bonus (Max QL - skill)
83.477 84.64 1.163
83.712 84.86 1.148
83.958 85.08 1.122
84.40 85.48 1.080
84.701 85.76 1.059
84.949 85.98 1.031
85.313 86.31 0.997
86.225 87.76 0.874
88.008 88.79 0.782
90.000 90.64 0.640

Pedicted max ore QL (with rare pic):

-Skill needed to get 100 ql ore: 100.2*

-Skill needed to get 98 ql ore: 98.02

-Skill needed to get 95 ql ore: 94.76

-Skill needed to get 93 ql ore: 92.58

-Skill needed to get 90 ql ore: 89.31

-Skill needed to get 80 ql ore: 78.43

-Skill needed to get 70 ql ore: 67.54

  • Note: the 100ql ore prediction is probably high because the game rounds to the 100ths place on the ore ql, and I only rounded to 3 decimal places on the skill data.

5) Additional Notes:

-These data were collected after the recent update to mining imbue that happend a month or two ago.

-I'm not sure if it's relevant but my pickaxe skill was always 1-2 points above my mining skill when these data were collected.

Thirst also affects mining action timer

Dirk 11/11/22

The current wiki page under "Notes" at the bottom talks about what affects mining speed but does not include water level. Water level definitely increases your timer. If start mining with a full water bar at I have a 3 second action timer. As time goes on that first action timer gets longer as my thirst level increases. If I drink water, it goes back to 3 seconds. I haven't confirmed it but I suspect food bar also slows down the action timer for mining.
