Skill gain is really slow when farming as the crop grows on the lower levels I.E

  1.  You see a patch of freshly sown field.
  2. A few green blades pop out of the ground.
  3. Small sprouts with many blades grow here.

Compared to these where you gain much skill:

  4. The sprouts are growing, a bit above half their mature height.
  5. The field is almost at full height.
  6. The field is at full height and ready to harvest!
