Log

2010-04: Character created: Arcas

Arcas joined The Academeny of Enlightenment

I gained an interest in mapping in Wurm and began doing so in Inkscape. This evolved into an idea for a collaborative map project using the revision-control system Git with Inkscape in a project I called the Wurm Freedom Git And Inkscape Atlas Project, or Wurm Freedom GAIA Project.

Arcas left the Academy of enlightenment to strike out on his own and "rough it", by departing with only basic tools.

Arcas created an undeeded settlement northeast of Reborn along the rocky ridge near the bay.

2010-05: I got a couple of volunteers to test out the Wurm Freedom GAIA Project, but the Inkscape .svg files proved to not revision well with Git, and merging proved difficult. I sadly abandoned the project.

Noticing that the ridge had a forest above it, Arcas constructed a ramp to explore above the ridge. Vast untouched forests were discovered there. Arcas terraced the hilly to of the ridge into a massive farm.

2010-08: Arcas was griefed. Within a span of 8 hours, everything that could be done, was done. ~250 tiles of farmland dirted and made unlevel, mine doors destroyed and replaced by stone ones, outdoor bsbs lockpicked and the dirt they contained dumped.

I spent a day cooling off and deciding what to do, and deciding not to ragequit.

Believing the GMs would do nothing since it was not deeded, I petitioned to the community on the forums. I petitioned not for justice, nor for material help, but rather for awareness. I let people know it happened and ranted a bit about griefing on Freedom and community morality in general.

The GMs responded and were sympathetic, as was the community. They found and spoke with the perpetrators, who will remain nameless. They gave me a sense of closure.

Arcas traveled south, and found a new place to call home in a secluded area not recorded on any map. The area was not entirely unoccupied, but the neighbors were kind and peaceful.

Arcas founded Arcadia, and built Arcas's Retreat.

2010-09: Arcas pursues the Path of Love meditation path.

2010-11: Character created: Arcah

Arcah was originally created to experiment with a new mapping project. This project used a custom web application to do the mapping. Golden Valley seemed a more interesting place to map.

Arcah became another way to start over, and see what I could do from scratch and no assistance with all that I had learned about the game. Arcah set out without performing any tutorials, taking any free meals, or collecting any found items.

2010-12: With the release of crude tools, another new beginning was possible for Arcah. She dropped all the possessions she had accumulated, including newbie tools but excluding steel and flint, and delved into the Stone Age. Since most of the free-to-play players had gone to Freedom, she could learn Wurm's most true beginning to date in a desolate, dead world. The winter snow and graphics embellished this feeling further.

Having rebuilt her tools from scratch, Arcah went premium and proceeded to freedom for greater skills.

Arcah wandered the Freedom Isles in search of an isolated place to settle. At the far eastern edge of the continent she found a place where steep hills and wild beasts keep most people away. There she found a village appropriately named Seclusion. With it's owner I pondered what to do.

I decided to leave Seclusion to itself as it obviously wanted. I decided to have Arcah join a village and become a priestess. I looked into recruiting villages some and found Nyrada to seem nice.

2010-01: Arcah joins Nyrada.

Arcah plans to become a priestess of Vynora.
