It seems you need rougly 35-36 prospecting in order to analyze. Rotab (talk)

Skill needed to analyse ores - only certain types of ore

I just found myself unable to analyse some Zinc ore with level 20 prospecting. (Didn't give me the option) However, I was able to analyse iron just fine.

Either, you need more skill depending on which ore you are analysing, or you can only analyse certain ore types. My guess is the latter. Xandaros (talk) 18:01, 22 June 2013 (CEST)

According to Player:Seara, you are supposed to be able to analyse all rock types. So it is most likely a bug. Xandaros (talk)

It is bug http://forum.wurmonline.com/index.php?/topic/82691-rock-shard-analyzing-in-wurm-11-knowledge-and-speculation/page-2#entry827421 Malcolm (talk) 20:48, 22 June 2013 (CEST)

Skill requirement to get vein quality

According to the current article, you need 20 prospecting to see the quality of a vein 1 tile away. However, I just tried that(on both rock an an actual ore) and could not see ore quality, so I'm guessing you need a bit more prespecting for that. Xandaros (talk) 16:16, 24 June 2013 (CEST)

I know I had it at 25ish prospecting when the update came. Have you gotten any farther along yet? Asera (talk) 09:04, 25 June 2013 (CEST)

The skill requriement depends on the ore type too. At 62 prospecting silver quality could not be detected at 3 tiles but iron worked. At 68 silver quality was detectable at 3 tiles too. --Ago (talk) 12:37, 7 July 2013 (CEST) I have 27 prospecting and was not given a ql report on the slight trace of ore --~ {{User:Skyefox|Skyefox]] January 4, 2014

Skill required for analysis

I can analyse and detect 'faint' traces with under 35 skill (34.24 when I first noticed) Skill ranges need more confirmation and fine-tuning. I also received a message not shown in the lists, namely: [01:58:55] You notice a faint trace of something, but cannot quite make it out.

Between 62 and 68 skill the ability to detect "something" at 5 tiles appeared. --Ago (talk) 12:37, 7 July 2013 (CEST)

At 70 skill you can detect iron, tin up to 5 tiles but not silver. --Ago (talk) 07:20, 8 July 2013 (CEST)

[15:56:24] You peer at it.
[15:56:27] You see a vague trace of iron ore.
[15:56:27] You see a vague trace of something, but cannot quite make it out.
[16:09:05] You peer at it.
[16:09:08] You spot a vague trace of tin ore.
[16:09:08] You see a vague trace of something, but cannot quite make it out.

Indistinct trace

I am currently sitting at 86.73 prospecting and analyzed a rock shard with a 70ql pick and a 1ql pick after. Just received this. Looks like we have another tile away we can see. -- Chromega (talk) 05:05, 19 July 2013 (CEST)

Bit of testing and I found I can detect gold 5 tiles away but this '6th' tile comes up with 'You see a indistinct trace of something, but cannot quite make it out.' I can see iron at this distance however. -- Chromega (talk) 05:30, 19 July 2013 (CEST)

[19:57:40] You start to analyse the shard.
[19:57:40] Lots of different sized rock shards.
[19:57:42] You cannot see anything unusual.
[19:57:42] You take a closer look.
[19:57:45] You cannot see any unusual slight traces of anything.
[19:57:45] You study it a bit more.
[19:57:48] You cannot see anything unusual.
[19:57:48] You study it real hard.
[19:57:51] You spot a minuscule trace of acceptable quality iron ore.
[19:57:51] You peer at it.
[19:57:54] You see a vague trace of flint.
[19:57:54] You spot a vague trace of iron ore.
[19:57:54] You go cross-eyed studying it.
[19:57:58] You see a indistinct trace of iron ore.
[19:57:58] You see a indistinct trace of something, but cannot quite make it out.
[19:57:58] You finish analysing the shard.
