Description
Mining is a the skill gained by creating cavesof excavating rock and ore veins. Mining skill affects a number The act of mining increases several Characteristicscharacteristics: body strength, body stamina, mind logic and soul strength.
Method
Mining There are several "modes" of mining, depending on where and what you mine. The method is primarily done in caves. much the same for all of them: Activate a Pickaxepickaxe and , right-click a rocktile, then the place to mine and select Mining -> Mine(action). Remember that Wurm is a 2D world. The cave layer is essentially a second world beneath the surface world. It is possible to mine upwards and downwards as long as you don't reach the surface or the water table. However, it is impossible to have one tunnel go above or below another. Not Each tile is essentially a pillar, so if two tunnels meet they create a shaft going from the upper tunnel to the lower tunnel. === Surface excavation === The first step in all mines is to make a mine entrance on the surface. This can be done on any cliff or rock tile. Surface mining is fairly quick compared to tunnel and ore mining. After 50 mining actions, the message "You will soon create an entrance" will appear. A few actions done later an entrace will be created. The exact value is random, averaging around 5. Surface excavation will produce rock shards on some actions. The probability seems to be around 25%. === Tunnel excavation === Mining a rocktile give rockshards, however every mining action done cave wall inside a cave gives mine will create a rockshardtunnel further into the mine. +/- 60 It takes 45 mining actions creates to produce the message "The wall will break soon", after which it takes average 5 actions to open the tunnel. Tunnel excavation produces rock shards on every action. === Ore mining === Ore is produced by mining ore veins found inside a cave entrancemine. Within When an ore vein is depleted, a cavetunnel is created as when tunnel mining. However, +/- 50 mining a vein can take several thousand actions are required to continue deplete, so it is advised to mine around ore veins for tunneling purposes. Each action will produce one ore of the tunnelvein's type.

To find specific ores=== Floor and ceiling mining === Mining the floor or ceiling of a cave does not create tunnels. Instead, you should it raises (for ceiling) or lowers (for roof) the cave. Note that as with prospectdigging on , these actions affect the closest corner of the tile, and not the surfacetile itself. Prospecting == Cave-ins == Any excavated cave tile has a chance of caving in . When this happens, the tile is simply returned to its former non-excavated state and can be excavated again. Ore veins may appear in cave itself will only tell you -ins. Reinforcing a cave wall with a support beam lowers the quality chance of cave-ins, but reinforced walls cannot be excavated or mined. Ore veins are said to count as reinforced veins for purposes of the tile (assuming you have at least 20 prospecting skill)stability.
Skill and difficulty
Higher Different ore veins have different difficulty. The easiest is mining skill can get you higher quality Rock Shards or plain rock, followed by iron ore. The hardest are silver and gold. As with most things in Wurm, mining too easy ore gives little skilllow difficulty leads to reduced skillgain, while mining too hard ore gives high chance of difficulty results in high failure rate. A failureresults in a 1. Failure can be estimated as 00 QL rock or ore. Items from successful mining have random QL, but the maximum possible is the number lower of your mining skill and the tile's inherent quality. See prospecting for details about tile QL 1.0 ores == Warning messages == Note: Some of these messages aren't exactly as presented in-game. Feel free to correct the wording.
Rock is the easiest Sometimes you will be unable to mine, while Gold is the most difficultcontinue mining and presented with a warning message.

== Reinforcing cave walls ==; Your pickaxe is stuck. : This one is a basic anti-macro measure. Simply move around a bit and you will free your pickaxe. Until then you will be unable to perform mining actions.; You fail to produce anything, the rock is stone hard. : Occurs on the surface. This means the tile you are attempting to excavate is actually an ore vein. There's nothing to do about it, you simply have to make your entrance on another tile. Note that if you make the entrance one tile below the vein, the tunnel will open right into the vein and cannot be extended until the vein is depleted.; The ground sounds strangely hollow and brittle. You can reinforce cave walls by adding have to abandon the mining operation. : Occurs on the surface. This means there's already a Support Beam tunnel on the tile you're trying to excavate. There's nothing to do about it, you simply have to make your entrance on another tile. Or you could search for the entrance (possibly caved in) to the existing tunnel.; Dirt will flow in. You cannot : Occurs inside a mine a reinforced . This means the tileyou are mining is very close to the surface. It would ordinarily create an entrance, but the rock layer on the surface has not been uncovered. If you dig up the dirt on the surface above the tile, further mining will create a cave entrance (or exit, as it may be.); A dangerous side shaft will prevent cave collapseappear. To prevent : Occurs inside a mine. This message appears when the tile from collapsing, you are excavating shares a single corner with an existing tunnel. To excavate it you must reinforce all of it's wallsfirst excavate so the target tile shares an entire wall with the other tunnel. Veins count as reinforced wallsSee example on the right.
== Multiple tunnels Ore veins ==Remember that the Wurm world is a 2D world and that all tiles are pillars. You can mine up and down but you can't make a tunnel above or below another tunnel. It is possible but it will make a big hole between the tunnels.
== Mining Messages ==Sometimes There are several types of ore which can be found while mining a tile you will get a message meaning that you can not continue to mine there.:*Dirt will flow in: This means that that the tile you are mining is under dirt and is very close to the surface. You can sometimes continue the cave if you start to mine down. You could also uncover the rock tile with digging, then you can complete the entrance.:*Dangerous Side Shaft will appear: This message appears because the tile you are about to mine is diagonal to another tile already mined out. Below is an example of this. The X's represent the tiles already mined out and C is the tile currently being mined.
+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+| | | | | | | |+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+| | X | X | . | | | |+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+| | X | . | C | | | |+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+| | X | | X | | | |+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+| | X | | X | | | |+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+| | X | X | X | | | |+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+| | | | X | | | |+---+---+---+---+---+---+---+
:You cannot mine the tile out at C unless you first mine one of the tiles marked with a '.'
:*You fail to produce anything, the rock is stone hard: This message can occur when you are starting a new cave. This means that the tile you are tunneling on is a Iron ore* Copper ore* Gold ore* Silver ore* Lead ore* Tin ore* Zinc ore vein. Try to mine the tile below it or too the side of that tunnel.
==Types of For details about ore==The following types of ore can be found in caveslocation, see prospecting.
