Improving is the ability to increase an items Quality on success.On failure you add damage to your item witch you then must repair and your item will lose quality.
Improving is sort of like a tug-of-war game.You always go up little by little,and you always go down little by little.As the higher the quality of the item gets,the more you will fail and less you will succeed depending on your skill.
Hints and tips
*Always use tools or items when improving an item that are around the same quality.
*If you start to fail alot,and are losing a good bunch of quality,its usually a good idea to stop and maybe do it later.
*try to go past 4-6 quality on the skill that item uses.For Example when improving a mallet only go 4-6 higher on quality on my carpentry skill.
*Make some time,usually about an hour depending on what your Improving or to what quality.More then enough times you lose the times since you get caught up in improving.
How to improve
To improve an items all you have to do is this:
#Examine the item and it should say what is needed like a log or a chisel.
#Activate the needed item
#Repair you item if needed.
#Right click, Improvements->Improve
Improving Bonuses
Usually when improving something,your skill will go up more and faster then just creating items.
Not to mention if you constantly repair and improve stuff such as a wooden fence could really help your carpentry skill and your repairing skill.
