Oak tree
Main / Terrain / Trees / Oak tree
Description
A tall, sprawling tree which is particularly rare to come by. Oaks can take months to reach old age, but are often used for ornamental purposes rather than utility.
Notes
- Simply in terms of general resilience and durability, oak is the most ideal wood type in Wurm. Items made from oak take 20% less damage during use and receive a 25% bonus to resilience against bash damage. This is in addition to identically matching the slow decay rate of the popular cedar wood type. It is important to note, however, that for some purposes, such as fishing poles and arrow shafts, a wood other than oak may provide more ideal qualities. See individual item pages for more detail regarding such special circumstances.
- Charcoal piles made out of oak produce more charcoal. Acorns may be harvested from oak trees during the appropriate season
The Kill Zone
Oak trees are known to kill other trees and bushes around them due to their thick foliage blocking sunlight to the lower forest floor. This kill zone is 1 tile at mature and 2 tiles at old (see illustration below). For this reason, when planting an oak, leaving at least 2 tiles between it and other trees or vegetation is highly recommended.
Exclusion zones from Oaks or Willows may overlap the exclusion zone of the Oak, but all trees that are actually growing inside the zone will die. The dying tree will only be killed when the oak moves to the next age level that induces the kill. Until that time, it will continue to grow and age as normal.
