That new guide was written by a newbie. It's riddled with spelling errors and speculation on things about higher level farming. I'm assuming he doesn't even have 15 farming. Should we just get rid of it completely?--Lordtemplar 10:51, 17 May 2008 (CDT)

I dunno... most non-newbies got their skill up before the latest changes, so we're in a bit of a pickle for getting a solid guide. Unless someone wants to rewrite, maybe we should just stick to editing and improving what we have. I don't think it's actively harmful as it is. - Dashiva 19:31, 17 May 2008 (CDT)

I'm not so sure on the bit about farming every 6 hours...At most I get once a day.

Well, after that new update for the grass tiles, I noticed that small barrels no longer are the proper height for knowing when to farm, I suggest someone change that soon, because its a pretty big change. --ajgajg

In the most recent update the barrel size is now back to its original size. --ajgajg
Added a del to all barrel references. This was due to the change in the barrel textures. There has been another update today so I'm going to test it out before confirming. Regardless of that, I'm going to re-write the entire farming page at some point. --Marni 07:34, 24 July 2009 (CDT)

I recently did an experiment involving 10 flat fields and 10 sloped fields, and there was no difference is growing time, frequency of opportunities to rake, or yield. If anyone else can confirm this, we should remove the bold wording to the contrary in the article. --Arcas 04:44, 29 September 2010 (UTC)

I can confirm this. My farm has about 90 tiles flat and right next to it many more with an 8 EW and 0 NS slope. No difference exists between the flat and sloped. Joedobo 08:31, 11 November 2010 (UTC)

The "compound slope" of 8 idea is accurate except that I found that I could sow on a tile with one corner raised by 5 dirts. Otherwise max(NorthSouthSlopes) + max(EastWestSlopes) = 8. Was this changed, does it increase with skill, or is this a weird exception? My farming skill is 42. --Arcas 03:09, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

It's not true that you can harvest a guaranteed 6 crops at 57 skill. Tekari 06:13, 1 September 2011 (UTC)Tekari

Kelp as farming product? I found no way to sow kelp yet, mind to enlighten us, Ago? - KaiH (talk) 09:56, 10 August 2012 (CDT)

Oops. That's still in from the first days. Someone said on IRC it's farmable which apparently it was not. I'll remove that --Ago (talk) 10:15, 10 August 2012 (CDT)

I can NOT see what stage of growth the crop is at with 24 Farming Skill. Is that a change or a bug? Aranarth (talk) 09:56, 5 March 2013 (CST)

Mouseover starts at 30, examine at 20 farming skill. --Ago (talk) 23:33, 5 March 2013 (CST)

at 66 farming skill I got a yields between 8 and 11 --BlGpapa (talk) 01:10, 6 April 2015 (CEST)

Can someone with editing rights please remove "At the current time, reed still use the old look; it does not have an updated crop image." from the Image section.

Yields

Old Page Information

the higher the skill the better chance of getting a higher yield at harvest(all levels were tested on cotton fields so it may differ on other crops)

  • at 20 skill you will get a guaranteed 3
  • at 23 skill you will get a chance at 4 (12/28/12 on pristine (cotton))
  • at 40 skill you will get a guaranteed 4 (42 for wemp)
  • at 60 skill you will get a guaranteed 6

Tending your crops with a rake can also give you a slight skill boost when harvesting. If you tend your crops twice during their growing cycle you get roughly a 5-6 point boost, so if you were harvesting a tended crop and have 54 skill you will get 6 yield.

Incorrect values as of the Farming overhaul. Needs confirmation for new yields.

- New "supposed" farming yields -

  • at skill 20 and under with no raking the yield will be 1, with raking, you will get 2.
  • at skill 50 with no raking the yield will be 3.
  • at skill 60 with no raking the yield will be 4, raking will increase yield by 1 or 2.

Animals grazing from a field increases the yield

- 'It is not possible to produce a rare item from a moment of inspiration (rare roll) while harvesting, sowing, or tending any kind of farm field. It is believed, however, that a moment of inspiration during a harvest action may increase the chance at a higher yield during that single action.' I already got 2 treasure maps during a moment of inspiration while tending the field.
